You have my sympathies, Gnomes. I hope you are doing well now and find yourself in pleasant company most of the time. Also, I'm glad you haven't allowed this to lock you up in your dorm or define you in a way.

As for LGBT, my older sister has three kids with her girlfriend (in vitro, they took turns carrying kids ) and my younger sister has a girlfriend now, so to me that's always been sort of a normal, accepted thing in my house.

Anyway, I'm glad you have the courage to tell your story and try to make some positive environment out of this. For whatever that's worth.

@Seraphim, as the attack itself happened almost nine months ago now, I think I would know if I had any internal bleeding (from obvious bruises, etc, etc) and if I had any mircrofractures (except in my legs, which may havemore than before, but already had some permanent ones). Call be proud or arrogant, but I don't think a doctor could tell me that much more. As for mental injuries... this was my last step in the healing process. Telling someone and getting it out there so that it isn't just echoing in my mind endlessly was basically evicting it from my mind, or at least letting it go. I'm done with it and them, and they are not going to take any more of my life.

But thank you for your words and your advice, I know that you mean the best and that you just want to see some justice done/ want me to truly be better.

@Dag, it did define me ever so slightly. It helped me decide that I would never let anyone break me for being who I am. But thanks for the support man. Oh, and about the sisters... Gunfred is right. Insanely jealous. Though it's more that you have sisters who are mature and comfortable enough with themselves to live normal, healthy lives than anything...

My condolences gnomes. I was going to post it earlier but since you said this thread is for LGTBQ only and defined Q as gender confused, I decided not to post respecting your wish. Now that everyone is posting, again, my condolences.

Well-written memory btw, direct to the point and not overdramatized.

Apologies, Gunfred, apparently I was the douchebag. I had such a difficulty placing that sentence, I assumed evil intent. Sorry.

Also, well, I'm not in exactly the most classic of households. And family goes first in the end, especially when it's a small one. Like, that's the only value that remains when you're down and out. My mother couldn't possibly hold that against them, ya know? It's not like it's a choice and it's not like they're hurting anyone.
She was glad she got grand children, though.
I think homosexuality is pretty widely accepted in big cities in Western Europe, though (Antwerp is a world city, I don't care what anyone else thinks), so it's not that extraordinary. (Also, I live in a country with an openly gay prime minister, etc...)

Also, it's equally amazing that you let it define you by not letting it affect you negatively.

Thanks Artu, I try to be blunt and to the point when I describe things that actually happened to me. Glad to know I succeeded! Although now that I'm reading through it and it's not three in the morning, I'm noticing all the typos... argh...

And sorry if I gave the impression that straight guys/ girls cannot post anything in here, of course they can. I just don't want this place to degenerate into name calling, moral arguments and all the fun things the OSM is infamous for. I want this to be a place to come for comfort and advice no matter who you are or what your background is. And this applies to straight guys asking how they can help out one of their friends or providing advice themselves. So no, no one is "restricted" from posting in here.

No need to apologise at all Daggy as I can understand that my post was easy to misunderstand. Although we are enemies for life now...

The main thing I meant by my post was that brothers are naturally protective of their sisters. Especially when it comes to their partners and feel relief if they think that the partner is a good person they can trust their sister with and not some defiling scumbag. It is naturally easier to trust another woman to take care of your sister than a man. My meaning was obviously not obvious in my post... Though lesbianity is hot I must say, it is not the reason for brothers to be jealous as they are naturally creeped out by their sisters...

I just watched a movie about discrimination, which could be helpful for those who doesn't see clearly the problem and the consequenses of the process of discriminating others.
It is called A class devided .
The experiment was held back at the time of 1970.
It shows very clearly what we are inclined to do to people, different than us.

Mvass, find the other thread for that. Not a place for discussion of these things here. (to a degree, I guess the same goes for you ML.) Yeah, it's slightly inactive, but it is about people's personal sexuality or getting advice for dealing with people of other sexualities.

@DD: Sorry the response was delayed, been a bit busy and lazy all at the same time. It's good that you can admit to yourself what and who you are, and that you can accept this as normal. Though it seems that your "type" of guy is limited, that's alright. No one is forcing you to like everyone or picture them in bed with you.

Though I imagine you might have some questions (since it's sort of recent and all) and I would be more than glad to answer any you want to ask.

The social and political discrimination of LGBT individuals today, even in the Western World, is a major human rights issue. The situation can be accurately compared to discrimination of black people in 20th century USA, for instance.

There has been some improvement, especially in the 21st century, e.g. with a number of EU countries and elsewhere, legalising same-sex marriage. The key of allowing societies to progress into modern, liberal ones is also separating religion from politics; this is beneficial not only to ending oppression of said LGBT individuals, but also atheists, and women's rights vioations. Not to mention instances of religious opposition to teaching Evolution at schools.

Unfortunately I doubt that a nation truly secular and respecting of equality will ever be established anywhere.

@ DD: I would love to be one of the guys you talk to about your sexuality, but for the rest (well, for the personality bit at least) I would suggest talking to close friends and family, since they can help you so much more than just a random guy on the internet. At least one of them should be willing to talk to you and be willing to help you out.

Gnomsey, I have only just discovered this and I apologise.

Gosh, how awful for you.  But I do feel you should have gone to the police.  I know that it is easy for me to say, but these cowardly acts cannot just go unpunished.  Homophobic, racist whatever.

That said, I am relieved that you are alright.  I imagine that your fitness pretty much saved you from grievous physical injury, but it is still shocking.  And the more you look back at this 'near life threatening incident', the more you will see the need to involve the police.  They may not have been able to beat you to death, but a younger, weaker person (coupled with their consumption of alcohol) could easily become fatal.

Unfortunately, this will probably not be your last 'incident', (although I hope and pray to be wrong here).  There are many, many people who just cannot understand you/are frightened of you/or confused/ashamed about their own sexuality.  Therefore, just protect yourself.  There is nothing wrong with 'coming out', in fact its mostly a relief, especially for close friends and family.  But like most things in life, there will always be others with polar opposite opinions/mores than ourselves.  Mostly those with differing opinions rarely resort to violence, but there will always be that small, mindless, ignorant minority who will find any excuse to hurt people (or worse).
