I don't know about H4 having the best abilities, it was highly imbalanced as a result of this. As with H6.

note about alternate upgrades!

it should be a must this time!
would give a great tactical variety for gameplay
as for campaign could be used in many ways
like making mini factions
example desert orcs or blackscull orcs (from duel of champions) for stronghold campaign
or lets say in campaign at one point u will have to choose whom u going to side with and that will change the story and limit your upgrade choice

Alternate upgrades are okay, but still limited, because the upgrades have to relate to the base creature, whereas having alternative base creatures allows tow completely distinct upgraded creatures.

Meanwhile the new doc addon in on its way, to be released in a month from now. It seems that it will follow and expand upon the themes of the previous expansion such as haven's reliance on healing(bonuses for fully healed units), stronghold's ambush, inferno's attack power and discard, necro's poison etc. We've only seen a unit of each faction which is not much to go on but the devs have confirmed that this addon will be thematically similar to the last one.

It would be great to somehow mix Heroes with DoC when it comes to creatures and battlefields....Heroes battlefields can get monotonous (esp H6) whereas DoC battlefields are addictive.
Also, having Heroes creatures with linear attack and retal and health points would be pretty cool....

The answer to that would be highly dependant on who you ask it.
But I, as you seem to suggest, highly doubt that it would find much acceptance. Though I agree that battles can be very monotonous.

Heroes doesn't need final fantasy-like battles, it's much better than that But, it could use some polish on all those things we have gotten used to. To make combat, adventure map, town building etc an interactive experience, something to challenge your mind and creativity. To change according to your opponent, map and current situation. The sense that there are decisions to be made and the feel of their impact. A streamlined heroes cannot offer that. It needs to broaden its possibilities, while retaining the philosophy easy to learn but hard to master.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves..

A good heroes game would need strategy not only on the adventure map, but also on the battlefield, and for this, ideas from DoC will be useful, as it's very strategic...

I don't know, we need the battlefield to feel more risky, like in DoC...with Heroes when you had millions of troops and ploughed through enemies easily, not much skill needed - for the campaigns at least...

As promised here is the Five Towers update.

HAVEN





A 'dragon slayer' unit, an offensive swordsman, an angel that gives stronger support the more dead units you have and a sergeant who boosts his units instead of doing the fighting by himself. I like the idea behind the angel, it could work well with a priest unit who either heals or protects nearby units. The benefits of full hp trend continues, no doubt to promote healing strategies.







Themes you'd expect to see in haven. Mending heals units that have not attacked the previous turn, charge attacks units in both the front and back row. The light spells are not haven-exclusive but it seemed fitting that they appear together. Morgan is Jon Morgan that first appeared in the Crag Hack adventure pack and will have a role to play in Might&Magic legacy X. He is Crag Hack's son though the latter was oblivious to it until the events of the Pirates of the Savage Sea.




INFERNO





A gated creature with an ambush ability, a demon cultist who benefits from enemy discards, an incubus who gets reborn and finally an EFREET! In Ashan, efreet are djinns corrupted by chaotic energies which seems fitting. I really hope these guys will return to inferno, hopefully as a front row charger who burns all who attack him. If it also gets some spellcasting abilities so much the better.





Classic inferno themes. Phrias is a powerful demon lord who has been corrupted by the void.




STRONGHOLD





Suicide mission goblins ftw ^^ A hunter of.. sand sharks (), a guerilla master and a bloodthirsty brute. Stronghold's ambush focus has increased.







Gotta love the orcish way of countering Zefiria is a renegade wizard that aids the orcs, like Zouleika. In general not much is known about those characters but we are expecting some exposition from the devs in the near future.




ACADEMY





Rakshasa seem to be tied to evasion, this ought to be interesting. I have no idea what the Sentinel of the Ages is about but it looks awesome If I had to venture a guess, I'd say it's a Shantiri construct.



That's Hakeem, prominent wizard of the silver cities and the first crimson wizard. He discovered that he could create a bond between a mage and a beastman by shedding his blood.



That is Akane, a naga wizard who specializes in the recalling and erasing of memories. She later became corrupted by the void.



That is Ammar, another prominent mage that specializes in constructs. He is considered a great strategist.



Gazal as she was before she became the Herald of the Void. Sandro tricked her into sitting on the throne of renewal but that did not work out so well. Her personality was erased and she became too powerful for anyone to control, causing Sandro to flee. She has an agenda of her own, to spread the void throughout the world of Ashan.

NECROPOLIS





Another spider and some undead versions of living units. Nothing too exciting.



Ariana, Sandro's apprentice. A bad girl as you'd expect.





Classic necro themes.




SANCTUARY





Water spirits, a naga warrior and a desert beast. Expected really.







Noboru is a naga spymaster.
