How attatched are you to certain holidays?

Being born into this western civilization it can be safe to assume which holidays I refer to with my personal examples as follows.

The holidays are nice, wonderful tradition. Unfortunate or not, emotional detachment guarantees a stress free round. Reality, life, and a few traditional sentiments are more than enough for me.

We can try to justify that thanksgiving is all sunshine and joy only until we look at the origin and the truths of its surrounding history. I am not the kind of person that tries to find the negatives in everything. But this holiday along with July 4th where America celebrates our independence by polluting the skies and land give me an unavoidable bad taste.

These traditions have a lot of heartwarming positive element. There is not much of this healthy loving glow in our world. I am happy it comes someway some how.

And more from a lighter note, I have figured out why holiday treats have to many calories. Someone up there wanted us to have a reason to share

As a kid, I always thought the best "holidays" were when it snowed so much and the schoolday was oficially declared canceled. It felt so wonderful because it was a surprise. There you were, sleepy in bed and never wanting to get up and suddenly Mom comes in and says school's out. Those were the days.

Christmas is the best because it is the only one that is really noticable over here.
During this season, the TV programs tend to be better as well.

Not even once was a schoolday canceled due to snow...
But the more snow the better.

Do not forget about the snake killing day in Springfield.

But there should totally be a spider stomping day.

Really, that's unexpected. I thought Sweden's climate was pretty cold and when I image-searched "snow sweden" I had some impressive results. Are you telling me this guy's kid had to go to school that day:

The amount of snow is hardly impressive on the west coast(the best coast) but further north away from the coast they got considerably more. We do not really have any really harsh weather either which helps.

Hmmm, turns out, like most people I was deceived by it's location in the north. Wiki:

Most of Sweden has a temperate climate, despite its northern latitude, with four distinct seasons and mild temperatures throughout the year. The country can be divided into three types of climate; the southernmost part has an oceanic climate, the central part has a humid continental climate and the northernmost part has a subarctic climate. However, Sweden is much warmer and drier than other places at a similar latitude, and even somewhat farther south, mainly because of the Gulf Stream.[80][81] For example, central and southern Sweden has much warmer winters than many parts of Russia, Canada, and the northern United States

We like to tell ourselves that we are a people of ice... but we know it is only a self-delusion...

But our half-assed climate has some perks. We get to experiance all seasons (spring and autumn I could do without) and the forces of nature does not **** with us too much. The only real natural disaster we need to fear would be a new ice-age(we would perish first) but that will not exactly happen tomorrow.

Yeah, we have all seasons, too. Not in every region though, the Mediterranean and Agean climate is... well, mediterrenean, similar to Greece and Italy with the beaches and warmer winters, the Black Sea region in the north is all forests and rain, Anatolia and Asia Minor are dry summers and snowy, very cold winters. I cant believe I'm actually having a conversation merely about the weather, btw!

Weather is awesome though! If you like the colour grey that is...

I would not expect Turkey to have any meaningful amount of snow but I guess it is hard to really understand a country's climate without spending at least a year there.

I think it's been a few years since it's last snowed here and stayed. We always have a flurry or two that melts within a few hours, but that's about it.

Those kind of snow falls are just the worst. So disappointing and good for nothing...

Same here, but change 'a few' with 'tons'. I haven't seen real snow since I was a young child

(Yet it's cold anyways, right now it started hailing)

this year for thanksgiving many stores will be open thanks to a good history of blackfriday shoppers.

I guess for those not thankful for what they have, go buy more stuff.
