Help me decide my party in MMX
I need a little push to decide what my party should be, I will be playing on the hardest setting also.
My Early access playthrough was... Freemage, Mercenary, Scout, and Barbarian
First of all.. Themed teams
Unholy Alliance
-Crusader
-Freemage (Dark Magic emphasis)
-Rune Priest
-?? what other more evil class would fit here.. an orc class?
Journey to the lonely mountain (4 dwarf classes)
- Defender
- scout
- rune priest
- another scout or defender?
4 spell casting classes would be a fun challenge.
ANy suggestions?

I have not had much experience with MMX so my hunch may be off but I tend to favour two melee classes, one magical and one support. I would like a damage dealer(in my case blade dancer because I love their theme though barbarian seems the safest choice for melee carnage), a tank that can deal some damage but also protect my team(defender seems an obvious choice), a spellcaster with destructive as well as healing capabilities(freemage and runepriest are more to my liking here, have not really looked into druids) and.. Probably a crusader or an archer type. Shaman could also work as support, being capable in both melee and magic and I'm pretty sure they have access to regeneration.
Mind you I have no clue how many skill points each class gets or which their favoured stats are and I am also biased towards or against some classes for thematic reasons. The above are just my team-balancing thoughts rather than the product of actual experience.
PS I'd like my team to have a member of each race or perhaps avoid humans altogether I have considered a full dwarven or elven party, will probably try it after my first playthrough.

One of the best thing of M&M games are making weird parties. For the first time I'd reccomend a balanced party, but the next times you should try really weird comps: all magic classes, all fighters....and even soloing, if you dare

Well, I was talking about older games (M&M 6-8), when it was possible (albeit challenging).
With mercs you may be able to solo in M&MX, I dunno. Although the lack of respawning enemies should make this strategy even more difficult

Well i decided on Crusader, Scout, Runepriest, and Freemage
I wanted to dual wield axes, have the possibility to grandmaster almost all the magic skills, and I didn't want a pure melee champ even tho I think a orc barbarian might have been a smarter choice than the crusader, this build also has use for almost every weapon I could pick up except Longbows.
I'm playing on Warrior mode(the harder mode) and oh my is it hard soo far... I don't know if it was just changed in the early access but I think they increased the price of everything in hard mode and you get less gold from quest, it cost 300 gold to identify items!?! I almost HAD to give up and restart because of lack of equipment/money/ potions to take on some of the bosses.. but my rune priest fireballs are beastly.

I read you're going to need Dark Magic, and for some stupid reason only the freemage has Dark Magic...that, or gettirn a hireling that can detect secrets or sth like that.

To OP:
Well since you played the game a bit already I would advise going as far from the template you used in EA. Maybe one of the achievement parties (full might, full hybrid and full magic) might pose an interesting challenge.
Now onto sidethread lamentation :
Freemage is not mandatory, but it helps alot, especially on first play-through. There is a hireling and a blessing that can substitute secret detection (and scrolls but that route might be expensive).
I went with the most original party possible (took me hours to find out this exotic combination):
Defender (focus on axes, shield and heavy armor)
Barbarian (straightforward 2h mace/2h weapon gm focus)
Hunter (pure perception specialist with bow/evade/endurance as focus)
Freemage (i went too wide with my freemage which resulted in ton of spells but few GMs. Near the end of game i had GM Air and Prime, master dark, and expert in all other schools )
In the first part of the game most of the damage was done by barbarian, most of the defenses were handled by freemage. Defender and hunter were just passengers in my party.
After the party got to level 20 or so and promoted, defender started to take his role of tanking some of the big hits (though freemage still did most of the defenses with regen and celestial armor). Hunter on the other hand became a beast when promoted to warden with GM bow, and equiped with mageslayer (mana drain). He shoots 2 arrows at range, and 2 arrows at each enemy in melee every turn (due to the fact that the relic bow returns more mana than the cost of the special ability). On top he somehow ended with most "free points" that meant he reached GM endurance the fastest and had most hp during most parts of the game.
Overall though my marks for this first playthrough on adventurer(might be different if i went to develop them the other way:
Defender: 5/10
Barbarian: 8/10
Hunter:6/10
Freemage 9/10
I will wait until first set of patches for 2nd playthrough on warrior.
I give the game overall a 9/10. I was among lucky ones that didn't notice a single bug, and my newly built medium power rig (haswell pentium, 4gb ram, R9 270) managed to run the game smoothly on high settings.
