I don't think naming with the name of one of the buildings is a good choice. Surely you can find a better name in the future.

whitebeard said: The faction name is Citadel and its going to be a horror themed town. Think werewolves, witches and Giant Spiders!
just a heads up: you're using 2 creatures for a faction that i'm producing, called Fear(based on phobia's).
Fear faction environment and objects(so far):
Fear townscreen(so far):
for more info, you can peruse this forum, i have info scattered over a couple of threads. or, you can visit my DeviantArt page.
that said, i'm not saying you can't(or shouldn't) make whatever you want(when both towns are done, anyone can pick and choose what they want to use). indeed, i look forward to seeing your town's development. my Fear faction isn't my primary work yet, as i haven't learned the 3d programs necessary to create the creatures, some townscreen work, map dwellings, etc.
good luck with your project.

You'd think so wouldn't you, but hey, vanilla had the faction called 'Castle'.

Citadel doesn't fit to be Horror town.
Mansion, Hideout, County are the better names.
whitebeard said: This is a work in progress shot for a new faction I have been working on for my art class. It looks a little cheesy now as this is a really low quality composite [img]
Will surely wait for full town screen.
Your town is composetd way that more than half of screen is sky. And two big buildings leave no place to other full set of buildings.
I think their size must be lowered, or size earth must be made bigger than the sky on background.

Fair enough. I once made a vampire town that I named Estate.

But it doesn't make it a good name either

I am actually not against the name 'Citadel', when I was a kid I also thought about a faction with such name. It sounds really more castle-ish than Rampart, for example.
So whitebeard, are you going to model every asset by yourself? If so, thumbs up and best of luck in your work!

So far that's the plan. This is my homework assignment after all (I have a fun class) My priority right now however is getting the lighting set up in the best possible way. Right now I'm not too pleased with the results so I shall keep tinkering!

In this case this guy at least knows how to handle 3D software at basic level.
Actually the creature concepts remind me a lot of Romanian town (these are the creatures I would accept in the Romanian town instead of the current ones there, no offense towards LW). Perhaps, a collaboration can be made at some point, eh?

@ galaad: thanks.
@ stevie: thanks. also seeing the new work, and how organized he is, i would be inclined to disagree that i am stealing any thunder here.
@ whitebeard: if you are i see you are already dabbling in 3d. you're ahead of me. you'll be able to produce your town before i will, for sure. i look forward to seeing your work. nice work so far, btw. the level of planning you are making is much more advanced than mine; i'm just finding things to fit in my townscreen, aesthetically, and one by one.

Thank you fred. This is a project I am doing for my art class so it requires me to try and be organised. I'm aiming to create an atmospheric background first then I can add in all the buildings and other details later. Thanks for checking it out! Your town screen looks frigging epic btw.

you're very welcome.
man, how come I never got free time to do a friggin HoMM3 town in art class?! i feel gypped. all i could do was ignore the history lessons my dumbass art teachers were trying to teach, and draw or work on whatever the hell i wanted. my potentially favorite class, and i got numbskulls who insisted on teaching the history of art, rather than art itself.
as for the townscreen, that's what i did first too, was make the background. i took pieces of different bits of things to make it. then, as i went along, i tailored the background as i added dwellings. i've reworked the background at least 20 times. you learn a lot, doing things the hard way.
thanks for the kind words, as well.

whitebeard said: Citadel Town nearing its final look:
By the way, if you decide to do town for VCMI, you can use then 32-bit PNG images instead of good old 8-bit DEF files.
I see transparent fog on your town screen, you can make it animated and independent from background/building defs.
PS The only bad thing is resources consuming. This has not been optimized yet, if you will make a lot of 32-bit animations, it will require might PC.
PPS The workaround is to make most dwellings as old DEF files, and use 32-bit for effects like fog.

It looks really beautiful, although too high-res for a H3 classic townscreen - it will look too much superior if put near, for example, the classic Castle screen. I hope you will be able to do something in that direction too.
