"New" and "Bad"? [Conclusional Thread]

Some people say that new things aren't always good, new means something new as in something that you didn't see before, ORIGINAL, however, some people see "New" as "Bad" but it becomes "Good" when it become "Old"...

This brings us to the question: Why do people fear the unknown? If you fear the unknown, why are you capable of adventuring? Is it courage? But then, there are levels of courage, is that what classifies people as in "wanting to adventure" or "hiring other people to do his own bussiness".

But then, if you are afraid of the unknown, how can you take a step?
If people feared the unknown, don't you think there shouldn't be this much technology? That brings us to the conclusion: Making the lives of millions of people can depend on the will, courage and power of a single man/woman?

But what good is teaming up if alone someone could accomplish that much? Is it because these "single"s are "Special" or "Chosen One"s???

But with conclusions, you don't know which is right or wrong if you don't step into the unknown to see... Meaning... We can't survive without resolve and/or courage?

That means, without will and courage, humanity is weak on so many levels, that if not for the two, humanity would have fallen or stayed living with the old ways till now?

Does that mean: Mysteries can unlock themselves with will and courage, but without everything else, the two would be useless, meaning, no matter how it sounds, EVERYTHING is ESSENTIAL?

Of this whole post, i get that conclusions lead to each other...

IS EVERYTHING MADE OUT OF CONCLUSIONS?

I'm not sure if I were 3, 4, maybe 5 years old, I'd never played video games before. What the first game I played was, I'm not sure, but I'm pretty certain what the first game I completed was.

The thing is, I found the idea of completing the game, the objective, so appealing that I didn't need any courage to do this, despite I'd no idea what awaited in this unexplored world. I had no fear of losing time, I only found each new challenge an improvement, not a waste of me.

The game was Captain Comic, a game that takes 15-20 minutes to complete, but back then it must have taken much longer. "Countless" times running out of life, I remember me and my mom taking turns, and she was the first to complete the game, but we progressed in steps, though sometimes larger steps than other times.

E.g. there are ~8 stages of the semi-maze/semi-open world like game which reminds of the side scrolling super mario. So the first couple of stages could go well, then several times of failure at stage 5 or stage 4, then stage 5 gets completed, so does stage 6, 7 and failure at stage 8.

The game itself is very easy once it's figured out, but the question is, is it intriguing before then? I played many games since then, and I find myself reminiscent of games I played when I were ~11-13 years old, games like Premier Manager 97, Pokemon Crystal, Might and Magic 7, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Diablo 2... but also games from before, as well as after, such as Doom 2 & Heroes of Might and Magic 4.

Not much later on I completed the game myself, and I found the accomplishment of the objective so uplifting that I sought out more and similar challenges from other games. I don't really remember what games I completed or how many games I played. A couple of years ago, just before I joined the community I did download a lot of those old games and completed stages I couldn't do back then, but two games I remember I also completed afterwards were Secret Agent (SAM) and Commander Keen 4, both through the use of repeatedly saving and loading every time it went wrong.

On the other hand, I couldn't muster the courage to do so in Doom 2, a game I first completed a few years ago, the idea of dying in Doom 2 was so unpleasant I couldn't play it without cheats.. more interested in seeing big monsters fighting each other, but Doom 2 also allows to save all the time, so the same method would have worked.

So back then I wanted challenges, but had I grown accustomed once Doom 2 (94, when I were 7, I remember still playing it when I was 9) came out? Or was the game simply too scary for me? When I took on Might and Magic 7 some years later, getting off Emerald Island was very difficult, my Heroes of Might and Magic 2 games had consisted mainly of cheating and the Heroes 3 games was mainly just checking out monster infighting, as I did in the Doom series. On the other hand, there were games such as Fifa 98 which I did "complete" and found very entertaining.. so while there definitely was a change, I'm not sure it can simply be generalized to all games. E.g. I liked to play against the computer, but when I played a human, in a video games such as Fifa or in a board game such as chess, the idea of losing was very very unpleasant, on the other hand, I don't mind it nearly as much now. As such, back then, playing against humans was very difficult for me.
Did I lack the courage to do so or were my emotions simply different?

I'm sure my emotions and as such how difficult something is changes quite a lot. I remember being reminiscent about Diablo 2, but when I then played it, I couldn't stand the loneliness of the game a couple of years ago, on the other hand, within the previous year, it hasn't bothered me at all and games I couldn't complete earlier because the static "I'm all alone" world didn't discourage me enough to make me flee, games such as Diablo 2, Morrowind, etc.

So I still sought out new challenges, new adventures when I were 11-13, and I think it was with Diablo 2 I sought out something new for the last time. Since then, every game I got was because other kids wanted me to get them. Counter Strike, Heroes 4, Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour, etc. The only exception was The Sims 2, but that wasn't because I sought out an adventure, but because I fought the game could help me with some stuff.

Therefore what I'm reminiscent about is not new adventures, it's the adventures I know, I don't find the idea of playing Might and Magic 6 appealing, because it's an unknown world, while on the other hand I know so many tricks in Might and Magic 7, still finding new stuff, such as the Paralyze effect from the Paladin is different than that form the Light Magic School, the Paladin's effect is permanent, that I find it very appealing, even wishing that I didn't know the game world (the same goes for e.g. Diablo 2, Captain Comic, etc.), despite now wanting to explore a new world.

There is also the factor of time. When I don't want to take on new adventures it's partly because I don't think playing video games is a reasonable use of my time. When I were younger I told myself that these challenges were difficult for adults, as such completing them was a worthy use of my time. I now believe there are other stuff that is much more interesting to use my time on, hence when I play a game I know, it's an obstacle, if I'm going to play an unknown game, it's a barrier I probably won't be able to penetrate easily.

So what I in principle day dream about is doing stuff that has already happened different, and it's not only in video games, it's with school and other parts of life in general. E.g. when I played chess, I like to imagine that I'd gotten some chess books and advanced rather quickly in stead of goofing around without realizing I was contemplating the same positions over and over.

In conclusion, the world I perceive, i.e. the conclusions I make, change as I change, so "conclusions" aren't always set in stone. Courage is to climb the mountain and is one way to go about the world, the other is to chip the mountain down one stone at the time, until it's possible to walk effortless through.

Edit: Another game I couldn't complete back then was Prince of Persia, where I couldn't even pass the first level.

The game basically consist of 12-14 levels, where you've one real time hour to complete the game and as many retries you need. I remember two ways I tried to pass the first stage, one to fight my way through, one to sneak through, both turned out to be valid tactics and I couldn't manage either. I couldn't jump right, despite having the idea that there must have been a way to jump easily, I couldn't manage back then.

But worst of all, every time I failed, I had to start from the beginning of the first stage, I didn't know that you only went one stage back, I thought the entire game restarted, seeing how easily I failed and the game had only started I gave up. Did I lack the courage to continue? Perhaps. I remember I first took up the challenge again once I many years later saw a speed run of the game, now with next to no surprises and being able to identify a good way to move about and improve, the game was easily completed. I remember my first attempt, I was just before the part where the time didn't matter anymore and time ran out, on the last level, ack. Next time I completed the game with plenty of time left. I was even sad that I'd seen the speed run, because it wasn't an unexplored world anymore, on the other hand, if I hadn't, I would maybe never have tried, or even got horrible lost on some middle level.

New or old is irrelevant in terms of good or bad, which are objective terms anyway. People are just more comfortable with what is familiar to them, without necessarily fearing the new. It's just that they are used to the old and they know what to expect or how to deal with it. This is not necessarily out of fear nor does trying new things require courage.

As for teaming up, it is necessary if you want to reach some goals. One man alone cannot do everything, he needs capable people who can do what he cannot. That does not of course mean that the more, the merrier. From a certain point, the more people there are, the less impressive the results but this is another story entirely.

Right or wrong is also subjective. It's more useful to think it in terms of how well something works for you instead.

I do not so much believe in the fear of new but rather the fear of different. But then, this is hardly a news flash.

I actually never managed to get of Emerald Island until I picked up the game again a year or so ago Maybe it was because of my lack of grasp of the english language, but I had no idea of what to do and was under the impression you had to beat the dragon to leave the island
Something similar happened with Heroes 3. I once tried the demo and immediately died against some neutral guards. After that I did not play for quite some time until me and my little brother tried again and actually figured out how the game worked. We were immediately sold

I concluded that was my main obstacle as well. I think I spend many many hours on a game that can be completed quite fast actually.

I'm amazed I managed to beat the game without really knowing what the quests wanted from me.

Now I know all kinds of short cuts and ways to do stuff at a much lower level which I kinda wish I'd figured out back then. But I still won't play a similar game such as Might and Magic 6 on the other hand.

It sucks missing an essential piece of information, item or location in a game. You can imagine so many possibilities of what you have to do and the more failed attempts you get, the more frustrating it gets Not knowing what to do can be a major deterrent.

I guess in reality I might be longing for a different game consisting of elements of all the games I know, hence why they draw you in, but not quite what you want.

It's pretty intuitive, not the same with RPG's where you don't understand the language, in my opinion.

I think you ponder good/evil too much Herry. My advice is to let that go. If you go into a mind-spin with those thoughts you will just realise that you ended up on square one again by coming to the conclusion: Everything that is good is bad and what is bad is good as long as it is in my own mind.
As far as I am concerned people don't fear the unknown but rather the unknown things the unknown can bring.
Allow me to make an example. I do not fear death, but I fear how I will die. I rather die quickly than slowly from drowning.

Besides Herry...how can you feel safe? What if Mr Ohforfsake stands right behind the next corner with a big ogre wood club and !SMASH!
