Combat (mechanics?) in TBS games

Since my gaming experience is limited I must ask HC for a help.

I was wondering about the combat mechanics in TBS games. How many different types are there? I am aware only of the two:

1) The combat mechanics of Disciples 2, where the army is divided into two lines, where there is no movement, and the armies need to destroy the first line of the troops in order to attack the second line.
Combat in Disciples 2

2) The combat mechanics of Heroes (I-VI) games, where the battlefield is chess-like field where the soldiers/pieces move in order to engage in combat.
Combat in Heroes II
Combat in Heroes VI

After mentioning these two, do you know any different combat mechanics in TBS games that you have played?

Can you describe the combat mechanics of that game in few sentences?

Works of a system of action points, which transfer into how many attacks you can do. Attacks themselves have a chance element attached. Everything is regulated by a characters stats and SPECIAL skills, as well as perks. (it is an RPG after all) That's the gist of it anyhow.

Movement on map in Fallout 2 seems similar to H4. Crap, to be more precise.

Disciples 2 combat is something akin to what card games do now. And to be frank I quite like it but it's insufficient to a more complex game. That's why they changed it in Disciples 3. I don't know if that was the right choise, maybe they shoulda stick with the old format and try improving it. But either way, I enjoyed both installments to the max and atm it's my favorite TBS series.

So, Fallout 2 is similar to Heroes in terms of combat mechanics...

The reason why I started this thread was to see if there is any diversity in TBS strategy games (regarding combat only). Here on HC, I saw few threads about the games that are similar to Heroes (Disciples 3, King's Bounty, etc.). I was wondering has anyone to create a new or different combat mechanics for TBS games, which would still require tactics/strategy.
