so we all want necropolis to be a little more evil. but how is this gonna play with the story? you call an evil person to council you?
ashan necropolis tried to go neutral but in the end i think we got "the nice folks" i am guessing their story will be against wizards.

I am expecting lots of arguments and sparks with the Academy Councilor and Anastasia even on the the faction page of Academy they talk about how they started a civil war and made public executions of the necromancers.

Those actions caused lots of sympathy towards Necropolis and the spider cult since what we see in h6 the necromancers they did not really bother anyone. They were simply concerned with the balance of life and death and the worship of asha. Hence academy they renamed their city to the sliver cities since they know they messed up and created a huge issue for the future. Still I think its because of that event that causes Necropolis to turn more ruthless.

I mean dark messiah Arantir was going to sacrifice the town but that would of sealed the demons forever. I like to see more stuff like that grey and ruthless I think we will see that in H7. Since we see necropolis at their humble beginnings then the development of blood necromancers and death knights for war.

Then the event with Academy Necropolis has been getting abused by all the factions going by the timeline so I am interested to see how that changes them. Since they are priests of asha so to speak, I think they are going to go even further in the saying "Asha uses all".

I personally see H6 showing us how they got to that point and why they act the way they act now. If everyone done that to me I may act the same as them.

Couple of creature ideas that could be used to mix things up for H7

Ebon Guards - as seen in clash. Would replace slow lumbering zombies with high speed, good initiative melee walkers

Crows/Murder (upgrade) - a symbol of death and the spiritual world, a flying unit that could be a possible replacement for the ghost, and a flock of crows is a murder which is very fitting

Scarab - if sticking with the Egyptian theme, a 2x2 flying scarab could be used in the elite ranks. Strongly linked to death and the afterlife in ancient Egypt

Reaper - wraith, nothing new, but it should be incorporeal and a champion

Grotesque - heaving mass of bones and flesh infused with dark magic as a new champion creature. A beast of death and destruction, controlled by its user thy will be done

Would love to see death knights back as horse riding elites but I think that the sword bearer model hints at a walking death knight as a champion

Personally, I don't like the egyptian theme. I would rather have the old theme with the big haunted hall from Heroes 3 and the black smokes rising from the Tower of Darkness near the Castle. That was a fitting mood for the undead. What we have now is a combination of toxicity with pyramids. It's not the way I wished this faction to take. Maybe the current necropolis era will end with Anastasya and the faction will go for a more evil feel. I'm definitely hoping so.

The Egyptian theme was rather poor executed, it wasn't bad itself. A normal desert would fit more than that ugly black wasteland, also dark brown, white and orange would have made it better, in h6 it was just supersaturated with black and green. They should have gone with an classic Egyptian feel and not add meso-american elements to it. Also the fact that it hadn't mummies was a punch in the stomach for the Egyptian theme (liches don't count)

Also, at the end of the 50 Shades of Purple, Sandro was pretty satisfied with the results on the Namataru( They shamelessly copied my idea, I mean there are so many coincidences as I made that before "Danse Macabre" DLC was announced) so I'm still hoping for a void themed Necropolis.

I do not want an Egyptian theme mainly because I want to see something new and not another loose re-imagining of Warhammer's Tomb Kings.

I also hope that we are stuck with another lame Drow-esque champion unit.  Hell, the whole spider aspect was really lame.

The supposed Egyptian theme is a bit exaggerated, isn't it? It's not like we had mummies and pharaos... It was just more than the basic haunted H3 concept to accentuate the fact that Necromancers are Wizards too. As it's been pointed out a while ago, the Necropolis theme song reflected on this. To me H6 is the first time Necropolis was enjoyable so I hope H7 stays that way.

That said, the art direction might be changed from H6 anyway, considering the lack of possible new factions and the 200 (?) year gap since H6...

Please, NO, H6 necropolis was the most boring, non-necropolis town in the whole series! Every other town in H6 was better than necropolis...

I don't mind the egyptian/mesopotanian theme, I think it fits the faction and gives it a distinct style compared to the other factions. I think style-wise the Lamasu was a really interesting addition to the faction as well. I do hope they'll tone down the whole neon-green thing, it's not so much that I mind the faction having a colour-pallette that it sticks to (+/- perhaps a couple of creatures), but the neon was taken way too far.

Actually, they haven't got too much space to work with. If the chronological order of the games is H6 -> H7 -> H5, with 200 years between H6 and H7 and 100 years between H7 and H5, then H7's color scheme can't deviate too much from the (rough) variety between H6 and H5. In H5, the colors were also predominantely black and green, albeit not as fluorescent green. More a sickly green. Check the screenshots on this page and (especially) its subpages, if you need a refresher how the H5 Necropolis looked and felt.

I think it's pretty safe to say that all the creatures in Necropolis were exposed to nuclear waste, and either died or transformed. It would explain a lot!

hahahah!i can't imagine a nuclear plant in ashan!
but seriously as alcibiades said, it's ok to go green but don't overdo it! the trailer showing that fabulous necromancer scared me that we are gonna see green till our eyes burn!
BUT on the other hand the elves are coming and i think they will want a little of their color palette back

Yeah, just not to overdo it like they did with Purple Elves or Green Undead in H6.

It's better to use less annoying colors for necropolis, dark red, black and white used in moderation would fit better, toxic pink and green, please no, it hurts my eyes.

I think they should, and hope they will, not bind themselves by such limitations. Just because there's an overall lore timeline, these are individual games, and just because there are, say, Vampires in both H6 and H5 doesn't necessitate that there HAS to be Vampires also in H7 just because it takes place between the two. Vampires were pretty damn different in H5 and H6 anyway, which sort of underlines that point.

With regards to colour, H5 had a dark/drab/green colour theme also, and I think there is a pretty natural limitation to the colour themes you can sensibly expose Necropolis for - a Necropolis in gold, blue or white colour theme just wouldn't make much sense, although the white robes of the H5 Lich was exactly a delightful exception to this rule that made the faction come "alive", so to speak.

Everything about this. Hrmn, I still don't understand why 'adding spiders' is supposed to make things creepy... Poor spiders, unloved defenders of gardens, commonly associated with hackneyed fantasy stereotypes and lame-o necromancers...

On the more positive, regardless of what we do get, I'm hopeful that it will feel a bit more 'cohesive' then HoMMVI's theme.

I couldn't agree more that the neon green was a bad decision in H6.  That said, I have an idea that I'd like to throw by you guys:

Would if the coloring of necro units is aligned with the color of your faction?  In other words, if you are the blue player then your units would have the blue trim to them.  Red would be red, etc.  This doesn't mean that the whole unit is that color, just the trim that they have been using neon green for.
