Exactly, that's why I know what I'm talking about
And as a matter of fact, I wasn't too fond of H3, which I felt had lost much of the "charm" of Heroes 2

Sorry to debunk a myth, but I had the opportunity to speak to some old NWC devs that worked on these specific games, and a question that came back often was "Is the community still a pain in the...?"

Funny, since back in those days, community interaction was far less than it is nowadays .

I guess it's impossible to please everyone all the time. Producing something that is aimed at a large group of people, you are bound to run into some that aren't happy with what they're getting and complain. Human nature I guess and the larger the group, the more people are likely to complain.

Case in point is the poll results, for instance, where Fury won. The dominant feeling on these forums is disappointment and the opinion that no future votes should be had. I can only derive from that, that the majority of Fury voters aren't vocal about it on the forums, since the logical conclusion would be that most people should be happy with the outcome (although, 55% of the voters didn't see their vote win, but it's so close to 50/50 ... and yet, the negative emotions on these forums outweigh the victorious ones).

Does that make it hard as a developer to keep positive and realise there are also a lot of people who are overall happy with what's being made and delivered? Usually they aren't as vocal as those who feel they have a reason to complain, so I can only guess it's a natural desire as a developer that you eventually just want to shut down communication altogether, just to get rid of all the flack you're getting for what you're doing - regardless of whether that flack is justified or not.

That didn't really debunk anything.
Fans were happy with H3. Regarding the Forge and Conflux however...

I am pretty sure that not all of them were happy.

I think I've read somewhere that for every 1 people complaining on the Internet, there's 9 people say nothing, and 8 of them are actually satisfied, and even happy. So yeah you always have to keep things into perspective.

It's a bit like the fans we meet in conventions. You would probably not believe it, but a vast majority actually tell us how much they liked Heroes VI. Which doesn't mean Heroes VI was perfect (I'll be the first to admit it has many flaws), but it wasn't an unredeemable disaster either, except for a vocal minority of die-hard fans. Fans tend to have extreme opinions, while the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

Usually, the ones that are die-hard and don't go around the bush scrutinizing things for what they are, are the ones that actually give a snow.

People at conventions are there to have a good time and enjoy life lol, not to rage. At least you emphasize that yeah there were good things in H6 too, but I enjoyed the mechanics of H5 better etc.

Well some did manage to prevent Forge. Conflux maybe was a big snow off from the devs lol
Still, H3 didn't get dethroned yet...

And they also probably preferred latest Bioshocks and Wolfentsteins... What is going on in the game industry seriously.

me and my friends continue to refer to that units with "old names" while playing
so i guess for me the name isnt that important after all
