The elves use magic camouflage.
Wouldn't be hard for a Minotaur to do the same.

Can't shake the feeling the whole thread will become a rant about people who'll never think alike trying to prove why their thinking is 'better' than the other's. First there was the succubus gibberish, now this.

Another random topic that grasped my attention was the stealth-thing. In the dungeons, where everything is supposed to be too dark to see anything, stealth is hardly something difficult to accomplish, no matter which creature claims as being stealthy.

What about nagas having now their own faction, moving from Tower/Academy? Couldn't minotaurs have one of their own as well? If this is so tantamount to a discussion anyway.

What would be so interesting about minotaurs?

The myth of the Minotaur is a crucial one, first it is a monster, a human body with a bull's head, so it is quite appealing ..., then he was born through an intercourse between the Sun's daughter (Pasiphaé, see Racine Phaedra) and a terrifying bull sent by Poseidon (Neptunus), moreover the great artist Daedalus created a labyrinth to hide him, and finally the great king Theseus who ruled Athens found the way to reach him and get out of the labyrinth owing to the thread Ariane in love with him gave him, then he left Ariane alone on the Naxos Island (see Ariane in Naxos by Monteverdi and by Richard Strauss), so you get all the stories in one : the terrifying monster, the bestial coitus, the art of the labyrinth, the ultimate Hero and  the tragical love story. What would you like more ?

Galaad, I'm asking about a race, not about its origin or about a character.

And who would be interested in human with pointy ears. Let's be honest, elves aren't different from humans, except their ears. Elves from norse mythology were spirits or more like angels (brighter than the sun, reside in the norse heaven), while norse dark elves were more like demons or faceless (reside under the earth, pitcher than black), therefore Tolekien elves =/= Norse Elves. Elves are just humans with pointy ears, nothing great about them

Humans, elves, dwarves and nagas were created as equals, so it wouldn't make sense for elves to be uber-mythical.

You keep talking about origins, while I'm focusing on their in-universe culture - what kind of culture would minotaurs create? Try to convince me that it's something interesting.

and dark elves are interesting? with what? their love for purple? their worship of darkness? what makes them different from regular elves? they are not inhabitants and they are not evil, they are imigrant elves from surface. they have a history written by devs and thats all.

its pretty much obvious that a lore well written about ACCTUAL inhabitants of dungeon, the intelligent monsteruos humanoids, (minotaur or whatever it doesnt really matter.) can be much more better than what we currently have.

and by the way, only reason probably they used dark elves, is that they are sexy. pretty much lame excuse isnt it?

people who play mmo generally want to feel like sexy beings in their virtual characters.

i, as a rpg-strategy gamer, dont want a shallow gaming experience and thats why i hate what we have!

edit: culture doesnt mean "nationalist lifestyle". acctually, also in real world, mixed populations from common history creates culture. we dont need to represent a world culture with one single dominant race in heroes.

unfortunately we are not the genius writers of Ashan so forgive me if this idea isn't up to par lol, but I think the H5/H6 Dungeon's cutthroat, feudal, Machiavellian society where everyone covets power would actually work better for the minotaurs,
(basically also go back and play MM8 or Heroes Chronicles The Sword of Frost if you want to learn how minotaurs behaved in the series so far)

also I think people are more trying to point out what a nonsensical, weird decision it was to bring in dark elves, in the out-of-universe context, than trying to argue with you over what makes sense on planet Ashan today (trust me, anything will make sense if the writers want it to lol)

Well said. The problem is, there's a crowd (a big one) of elf-lovers over there, which btw crushed Dwarves in the vote (even though many old-timers voted for Dwarves). Elves have the support of the masses.
Gosh, there're people claiming to be Elves in population census. Never heard about claiming to be Minos tbh.

Since minotaurs are from Greek mythology, they could have ancient Greek architecture, also we got the labyrinth motif which works hand in hand with the cave environment. The calcareous grotto bends pretty well with the Hellenistic architecture because of it's whitish color (even tough Greeks painted their buildings in bright colors, but nowadays they are washed up and got the distinct white look), the massive structures fit with the minotaurs strength motif, as well as digging massive galleries. As military the Greeks used direct attack and pushing their enemies, even tough it'd be harder to imagine minotaurs into a phalanx formation, the principles apply because of their raw strength used to push back enemies. Also, we got skirmishers at petlast, which were spear throwers, imagine a minotaur throwing spears made out of a whole trunk. Aside from Greeks, they could use Minoan, Carthaginian and Thracian/Dacian influences. For example, to give them a more savage, yet highly educated approach, they could go with Dacians, let's take for example the flax, a two-handed sickle sword which could behead a horse and prove a nice substitute for the typical axe. Carthaginian influences could be used for the "beastly" look (as Carthaginians used elephants in warfare, but Minotaurs could substitute them for manticores/hydras/dragons). If you think that the cliche dark elf culture is more interesting that this I guess I shouldn't even bother continuing this discussion.

Then there is no problem with them taking over dungeon, after all humans were the Dungeon overlords in "the most popular game of the franchise Heroes 3"

Among Minotaurs and Troglodytes, yes.
Three main races in one faction is better than one largely homogenized one with a few guest appearances.

I'd rather have humans instead of a wannabe new race which is actually anorexic anemic humans. And let's not forget that there were no humans in the dungeon line-up in h3

pretty sure there's no evidence that the Nighon humans overpowered the minotaurs in the Dungeon Overlord ranks, or vice versa

Pointless. Those purple sprites will be in the game, sadly. Hope for some changes in the next installment, if I get enough motivation to care about it.

Making this dark elf faction leads me into thinking that there could have a black people only faction as well? And why are humans in all of them? Looks like a plague. If humans are so fond in meddling into other factions, why not the contrary?
