HoI3 TFH
Idk, if there are any serious strategy folks here at HC but thought I'd put together a tiny AAR (sort of) for those they may not yet be aware of HoI3 TFH.
Prelude
I had never played a Paradox game until buying CKII. My adventure that direction was short-lived. While I will not say it is a bad game I will say it is not my cup o' tea. I found having my fate mostly in the hands of my lucky stars was a bit too much. (much like in H5 when the enemy is having luck or morale firing every creature turn and you're left thinking...well, you-know-what you are left thinking) I left the soap opera for good last year and I don't care how many tunes or change of clothes they want to sell me.
It's funny that I'm now writing this bit because I didn't buy this second Paradox title, it was given to me this past Christmas. To be honest I dreaded the gift but knowing my brother did spend real $ getting it for me, I thought; "I need to at least give it a go." The following is how that go has gone.
The Game
Like anyone new to HoI3 my first phase of thought went like this: "There is way too much to learn" "What in the heck!? "How can I manage that?" "What just happened?" "And where is THAT button?" and "You've GOT to be kidding me!"
I moved on to a second phase of mental mutilation populated by "Oh so that's HOW it is!" "DANG I forgot about...THAT!" "That crap is not happening THIS time!" "No way! I DID do it right" and then this phase's verdict "WOW, there is a lot more to this than I thought."
Now I am in my third phase because everything has changed to an even more ponderous mode of thinking; <L> "Hm, I need to learn to do this right" "I need to look at that, it seems kinda important" "Keep your cool man and don't forget about supply lag" and then there is the ominous omen..."There's likely a good reason why the veterans will not do what I am thinking about doing." and after doing the no-no "Good grief, what a mess." My current situation is best conveyed; "I've got a good handle on what I am doing now and though my current invasion is akin to tooth extraction, I am looking forward to my next game."
My next goal is to learn to use the A.I. for lesser parts of my actions. As it is, I am micro-managing everything and only slowly spreading that out. My use of the clock has greatly improved and that allows me to enhance my game experience further. Bottom line = I've never invested my time in a game with a longer learning-curve but my enjoyment/satisfaction does continue to grow. Thank you my dear Brother; good guess.
I’ll not supply details unless there is an interest. But I am here for a bit, will answer any questions and if anyone wants to investigate this game further, I can help make that adventure a bit easier.
Cheers
