Both HD mod and HoTA actually change the original game play and create incompatibilities with a lot of custom maps. HoTA changes the way the spells are prohibited in editor then HD mod with HD+ changes the obstacles in battle. So any maps using special battles locations, based on how obstacles are set, will not work in HD mod.

You do have a point, being able to pick your own heroes does give one too much of an advantage, especially against the AI who can't utilize the same strategy.

I overlooked it because I usually prefer being in control of things, rather than having random chance control things for me, and usually I would consider it fair as well, except maybe in this case.

Guess no more HD mod for me. Meh, didn't notice the visual changes anyways

Whoa, hold it there.

We never at all said that you shouldn't use the HD mod. The HD mod still makes the game's user interface significantly more intuitive (and faster) and gives its usual perks (windowed mode, you can modify resolution, etc.).

If it's that much of a concern to you, just don't use the Invite a Hero function and you're good to go.
