While I don't agree with, like half of what you have said, it's a very expressive and pleasant to read post, Markkur.

Btw, I strongly recommend you to watch Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris. The whole theme is about feeling nostalgic for a lost, golden age with a very insightful conclusion in the end.

Edit: Damn, I hate it when comments like this one open up on the next page.

Disgraceful

@ markkur: the phenomenon of online social websites is weird. on the one hand, you have people lying like usual, and stating things merely to inflate their own ego(most of which are lies, to appear better than others). but for people who don't have the guts to speak up in real life, online social sites are their way to share. 2 cases of this that i know of, are one of my cousins, and my stepbrother. both of them post all the time about pain this and pain that that they're feeling in real life because of relationship issues with the women they love. but none of this ever comes up when we're hanging out. it's like they feel comfortable telling the world, what they can't tell their own families, or the people actually involved in what they're discussing. both relationships have gone to hell while they do this, and my sister's kids are having to suffer because of it(not saying that it's a one-way street, far from it. but their behavior certainly doesn't help their cause).

if i'm not mistaken, you made a thread about this very thing. i can understand your case, because you didn't want to burden those you love with what you deal with, so i'm not judging you on this whatsoever. i know you have your loved ones formost in mind, because you obviously have sense.

but with the cases i know of in real life, they just don't have the guts to admit the truth face-to-face. it's like they're not even men, but boys who need to be shown how to express themselves properly. they clam up and get angry when i try to address what they're going through; like they're too tough to try and remedy the issue, but act like snowing whiny-ass snowes online. it's made me think less of them, certainly. they hide behind this "i'm tough, nobody understands me" exterior, but underneath, they're the same soft core that everyone else is. i can't stand that kind of behavior myself; it's another form of dishonesty, and it prevents any kind of progress. they're both so mired in their own stupidity, that they'd rather stay in anguish and snow about it online like some emo kid to an anonymous and mostly uncaring world, than to actually confront the issue with people who give a snow, and want to help.

consequently, i've given up trying to help either one of them. what sucks, is that not only are they suffering, but they're making family and friends around them suffer as well, which pisses me off(if they want to throw their lives in the toilet like dumbasses, fine; but my stepbrother has a family to take care of, and my cousin shows absolutely NO gratitude for anyone or anything, for any reason). i get the strong feeling that both of them really have absolutely no regard for anyone other than themselves. they're both selfish beyond reason.

Well, I'm glad some things remain constant. And despite of half-agreement...I'll give you a whole Thank You.

Yup, sad and ill are in there somewhere too. Kids can NOT have anywhere to turn, there's that too but the problem is the whole flock is doing that nonsense now and it does not matter that they will at sometime or other, depending on what they do and post, it's a habit/way-of-life that might destroy their future prospects. It was bad enough when companies began using software-programs to screen resumes' and applications (as if personal data is not a person) but now imagine what is being searched.

My story is a long and sad one but just so this much is clear and short; I've been fighting this  dragon that's eating my bones for 15 years now and it robbed me of my life. So, it seems I'm no fun to talk with anymore; who wants to hear about more pain doctors, trial and all of that. Funny, how I've always tried to get anyone to talk about THEIR life (that is what old codgers are good for) and yet no one will. They must be very tired from plastering their personal business for the world to read. But the family to know? Screw that!

I think that Life is much more illusion than it has ever been. (here)
And as far as disrespect? Sitting immune and hidden behind a screen has fostered a lot of snow. I've been talked to by people, even here, that I guarantee you would not have done so in person.

Well, I've given up on trying to help family by any advance on my part. I've had hundreds of no-gos and I'm now quite tired. They do not have compassion nor want it. People will not change until they make up their minds to do so. I've have greater success in helping strangers all of my life. In one way it is awesome in another it is sad beyond belief.
