Vault of the Mages

So we don`t have battlesite dedicated specifically to acquiring spells.

I would like to gather opinions how many spells/scrolls and of what tier should be rewarded to each difficulty.

I plan the Vault to have 3 difficulties = 3 different armies mostly consisting of Disciples. Please tell me how many spells do you expect inside? Imagine you are the game designer now and want to create a balanced battle site.

For reference in heroes 5 that building gave either 1 level 4 spell or 2 level 5 spells.

The existing shrines make it hard to balance the vault. I mean how much more would you give compared to a shrine that gives 3 tier 4 random spells for free, without a fight?

Normally I would find 3 tier 4 spells a pretty reasonable reward, considering there are 7 tier 4 spells and as many magic skills - Not to mention the amount of banned magic skills per class. It would feel cheap to give more than 3 imo. But it would be cooler if the vault also gave spells from different tiers. For instance 4/3/2 spells per tier 2/3/4. The vault would then help you get more control over your magic build.

Different than what we used to have but more relevant to the current gameplay.

I don`t have Master or Expert shrines on the map - only 2 unskilled(2 spells) and novice(default 3 spells). Bearing this in mind what would you like as tier 3 & 4? Also map has two towns.

Also please reply in the manner :
highest difficulty - tier 3 - 5 spells
mid diff -
lowest diff -

High luck factor involved, innit?

You need 5/8 Arcane Knowledge to learn T3/4 spells - but the quality/rank you cast the spell with depends on your mastery in the required magic school.

With lower level spells this isn't as much of a problem - lower risk fights for lower gain, but with higher levels?
Full magic school knowledge nets you 6 points (only), so if you want to learn a T4 you need knowledge in at least 2 schools, both Expert, one Master - you could also go for 3 schools (1 Master, 2 Novices), but no matter how you look at this, it makes a lot of sense to pick the needed Master rank for the school your Guild is delivering one.

This means, there are only 2 T3 and most probably only 1 T4 spell your main hero will really be happy about, with the rest being very doubtful: casting a T4 unskilled isn't that great.

Also: you may end up with spells you already have.

My suggestion: create a few spells, exclusive for this building, for which skill doesn't matter, only Power.

In that case it would give 1, 2 or 3 unique spells

mid: 1 lvl 3 2 lvl 4
low.  2 lvl 2 1 lvl 3

How do you imagine the battle there?

I imagine that this battle site follows other that we have and in h3 ambush style. I propose 3 corners with Disciple, Apprentice and one corner with either Djinn Channeler,Rakshasha Shatra, Gold Dragon, obsidian gargoyle.

I kind of tested heroes V chances and tweaked them a bit so :

5% Gold Dragon      - diff III   - spells 2 lvl 3 3 lvl 4
20% Raksha shatra   - diff III   - spells 2 lvl 3 3 lvl 4
40% Djinn channeler  - diff II  -  spells 1 lvl 3 2 lvl 4
35% obsidian gargoyle - diff I   -  spells 2 lvl 2 1 lvl 3

These are the chances for the 4th stack. The other 3 stacks should be from disciple, apprentice imo and again scaling with difficulty. What do you think?

Important issue two: do you want to reach with a unit with speed 7 the disciples first turn.

haven - silverbacks(ability) ,cavaliers with novice warcries or cuirassiers
stronghold - harpy(fury) with rage buff ability or with warcries, same with sand wyvern
academy - only djinn channeler with warcries - very hard for academy
necro - banshee with warcries or vampire lords
sylvan - moon does and sprite with novice warcries
dungeon - only soulless with warcries

After I wrote this I think maybe 6 is better :

Magic heroes could benefit from creatures that can block with 6 speed - cavaliers, djinn channler, banshee, moon does, soulless.

And that is if you imagine that battle will be first turn blocking the Disciples, Apprentices.

I think it would be more fun to feature simurgh instead of gold dragon. The random debuffs make combat exciting, plus you can already encounter gold dragon in dragon utopia.

ok Simurgh it is. What about reachability?

1) OK - 6 or 7 movement

2) not reachable/blockable first turn
