Far eastern shores

A little project of mine, where I try to construct a new setting heavily inspired by Japanese mythology with some bits of other asian lore and mothology, although some European creatures are allowed if they fit. Still Work In Progress, so everything can change.

May, may not make artwork for this...

Harmony
Themes: Nature, Peace
Terrain: Grass/Forest
Units:
Tier 1. Fairy
Tier 2. Kitsune
Tier 3. Tiger
Tier 4. Treant
Tier 5. Kirin
Tier 6. Phoenix

Order
Themes: Magic, Knowledge
Terrain: Snow/Mountain
Units:
Tier 1.
Tier 2. Monk
Tier 3. Yuki-Onna
Tier 4. Samurai
Tier 5. Yeti
Tier 6. Dragon Turtle

Sea
Themes: Water, Trade
Terrain: Swamp/Jungle
Units:
Tier 1. Kappa
Tier 2. Samebito
Tier 3. Mermaid
Tier 4.
Tier 5. Naga
Tier 6. Sea Serpent

Death
Themes: Necromancy, Spirits
Terrain: Rock/Wasteland
Units:
Tier 1. Skeleton
Tier 2. Ghost
Tier 3.
Tier 4. Vampire
Tier 5. Gashadokuro (Giant skeleton monster)
Tier 6. Shimigani
Other ideas: Lich, Joro-gumo (okay, honestly kinda like the Nataru, just not a directly a spirit of death)

Chaos
Themes: War, Darkness
Native Terrain: Sand/Desert
Units:
Tier 1.
Tier 2. Ninja
Tier 3. Tengu
Tier 4. Oni
Tier 5. Sorceress
Tier 6. Omukade

Zzzzz, spare for the Omukade, Yuki-Onna and Tengu, everything else is boring, used too often and uninspired.

whoa, the negativity!

As I said, I'm all down with a asian-Heroes. too bare-bones at the moment to really dig into but what's for certain is that the Chinese dragons of the four directions are missing. especially the Dragon turtle. would be perfect for Order (or at least ocean). Well, it's a sea-creature with clear affiliation to order. easily made to live in snow.

You might have a point there. Also, I'm starting to feel the monk is a bit to high tier...
Also, just ignore Rakshasa. He just hates everything he deems "boring" and "overused"

Ninja feels more at home in forests than desert.

see the zodiacs for more inspiration (they're pretty common in eastern media)

Why on earth would you leave the Samurai Crab (Heikegani) out of the sea town? ANd how on earth in a Japanese-style town would you use a Sea Serpent instead of a Ikuchi?

Ninjas fits darkness town better, seeing as they're practical assassins. Actually, the desert part is more likely to be changed.
And speaking of the Zodiacs, a Tiger in harmony could be a good idea.

Looks great to me so far. Great choices, the Harmony and Chaos factions I like especially. And very good choices for level 6 all around.

I have no objections to having Fairy or Kirin.
Or Samurai, but I think he/she should be higher than the Monk.

Vampire should be there too imo.

Civil? How can I be more civil to someone who calls him/herself master lineup smith and who puts units like Tiger, Sea Serpent, Samurai, Ninja, vampire and all that other common stuff into its so called MASTER line-ups.

Don't call yourself master lineup smith, that annoys a real creative person, like me, beyond no measure.

Just call yourself: Guy who puts standard creatures together and calls it towns. :-D

Being civil has nothing to do with your taste. You may dislike/hate something, but still remain civil.

At least you are humble Everyone has the right to create a thread with his own lineup, and express his creativity. Relax a little.

Oh, and putting creatures with strange names is not the same thing as being original. And what is 'standard' creature, btw?

As for Ikuchi/Sea Serpent thingy you mentioned earlier, they can look exactly the same (and be the same) except that one has japanese name and one has english name.

I could, but it lacks some of the qualities and appeals of the vampire, so I wont consider it a possible replacement. But it could work as tier 3.

Just so you know, the "master lineup smith" is a joke and referance to back when I would post lineups like a crazy in the shadow council. And of course because I mostly work with lineups here.
But seriously, you are not more "creative" just because you use lesser know creatures and rejects everything you deem "overused"

They only have strange names because you don't know them yet, that's why you think they are strange, but mythology has so many undiscovered jewels and pearls, that should have been just as known as Medusa and Minotaur, who also would have strange names if you just learned about them. But all mythological creatures that D&D used in the 70ties are suddenly the ones EVERYONE should use, and the ones D&D didn't find in the 70ties are all crap? Lol.

And the Lovecraft (I hate them) monsters have much more difficult names, and I hear NOBODY about those, because it is lovecraft? Give me Popobawa, Wendigo and Ikuchi OVER Chthulu anyday.

Anyway this is from wiki about the Ikuchi:

"From its body surface, an adhesive oil would seep out, and when it straddles the boat, it would spill a large amount of this oil on the ship, so if this is not scooped out, the boat would sink."

Very different from the House, Kitchen and Garden Sea Serpent. The oil is a very cool feature and can be replaced by adhesive tar as well.

What I meant with SIMPLE/BORING creatures is that using names like Tiger, Ninja, Samurai, Monk and stuff like that in your line-ups is very unprofessional and boring, and reminds me of the boringness of this world I have to saddle myself up with. All these people that are stuck on Wolverine, Dragons and Scorpion/Ryu and can't think past Joker, Soccer and all other overused stuff, it made me cold and sometimes cruel towards my lesser kin. ;-)

Suffering from narcissism is a blessing in this world.

Rakshasa, just listing a lot of names doesn't change anything.
Firstly you should describe what they actually is, what it does, how it looks. You know, that sort of things. I got other things to do than digging up information about them you know.
Secondly, they have to fit the towns over current suggestions. And that is for me to decide. I wont just change it because you ask me to.
