Ads blocked though ad-blocker is off
Just wanted to give a heads-up that there are no ads for me even though my ad-blocker is off/this site is greenlisted. I am using AdBlock(without plus) on Comodo Dragon Version 48.12.18.243 which is a slightly altered Chromium-based browser. As I like this place alot i wish to support it atleast by allowing ads but I'm not going to uninstall ad block for this.. anybody any ideas?

Strange. Has this been happening for a while? Are you sure that there are no other browser settings or add-ons that are blocking the ads?

I have it too, but it only happens rarely. Personally, I think that it's probably the ads not properly loading instead of this being caused the by Adblocker.
EDIT: Ironically, this happened right after I replied

And, I was right, here's why:
Right there, notice the source of the image(look at the highlighted text). Now see this:
Notice the error under the console tab. Hence, the ad simply failed to load. A good question would be why, but I can't really find out, since I don't host HC.
EDIT: Resized images.
EDIT 2: I think it's pretty normal, since, from time to time, I get that error with random images.

I get this on occassion too, but it's sporadic/rare so I just ignore it.

Ah, that might be it, i'm gonna watch it more closely and see if it's really just the ads not loading properly.

Looks like this might indeed be an occasional ad failing to load, which would be the ad network's fault. HC pages see that the ad didn't load and display the "advertisement blocked" message. As far as that message is concerned, I don't think it is possible to distinguish between the ad not loading because of ad blocker and ad not loading because of an ad network error.
But do let me know if ads are consistently not loading for you more than 10% of the time as then I need to report it to the ad network.
Also for those who don't know, you can become an HC supporter by making a $10 donation and have the option in your profile to turn the ads off completely for 1 year. This option was added for people who want to support HC but don't want to have the ads.

Seems to happen more often on mobile for me, like probably almost 20% of the time there.

Happens often on my phone, even though I don't have ad-blocking software. Usually when I open three or more HC tabs in quick succession.

I was experiencing some weird issues with regard to adblock mainly using youtube, which were then confirmed link. Maybe related? It got solved as of yesterday anyway.
And btw, I noticed something with scrolling that feels different. Did you do anything to that, val?

The issue could happen on mobile if the phone doesn't have the capability to display flash or whatever other software some ads may require.
I haven't changed anything to do with scrolling.

Super late reply, sorry. My phone usually displays HC ads - which I consider part of the design by now- so when it does not, I notice. Haven't been logging percentages, just scenarios that seem to be immediately followed by blocked ads, but I can't reproduce them reliably. Might be confirmation bias. At any rate, the issue is also present on computer with flash, just less frequent there. Maybe HC's coding confuses the ad network somehow? You should complain, issue is still present.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this but I've noticed my work ISP blocks some ads. Point is it could be ISP in some cases as well.

I noticed when on phone, having that issue like 80% of the time + some pop up ads for an app (it's always the same app). The pop up displays for a few seconds than goes.
Doesn't happen on computer.
