I give it the option of "better than vanilla but not Tote" which is a huge gap so I'll be more specific.

Even after the expansion comes out this game obviously failed in its attempts to go back to the roots and be more like h2,3,5....so there is no way it could ever reach Tote level, but I think it could get at the h4 level (I'm not one who dislikes h4, it's one of my favorites) but only if the AI gets the update it desperately needs. Not comparing music or stories here either only gameplay.

The skill wheel changes will be enough for me to be okay with how it works in this game. The grandmaster passives are the only thing that make the battles interesting since the unit stats are all so bland and similar. In h8 I would rather have actually diverse units and factions without hero skills that give my units chain lightning attacks or insane boosts to health. But like I said it does work for this game so being able to customize my hero more will be great.

Fortress doesn't look good except that dragon...the extra neutrals look sweet though.

I'm also taking into account the AC mod, I really don't remember the game before it and lizard warrior's mod is looking great.

Truth be told I don't expect to like dwarves. I will probably buy the game d1 to support the franchise anyway as apparently I am one of the few that loved H7 and really did not find any other game to have that much pleasure in turn by turn games. (I could continue on ... but that's off topic).

Hopefully they will fix some of the most obvious bugs and the one they'll introduce aren't quite as game breaking as they are now (like regeneration reviving one unit at least ) the change of the skillwheel can give the game some fresh air.

Plus truth be told heroes of might and magic always have terrible games at start : h3 I spent hours and hours to install it only to be at 150% of the installation, h4 would crash repetively even after a few expansions, h5 was imbalanced and not quite that fun until Tribes of East.
So I don't really expect the next game, H7, to be already bugless in the next expansion but I'll be really happy when they do fix everything and make all I can for it to maybe happen.

Given up on this game a long time ago.

Blood Bowl 2 is awesome.

My point of view is that the tactical aspect of this game is doomed for as long as anyone can screw up all tactical formation with one little stupid tornado spell. And I'm not even talking about the 100 other things wrong to this game.

Blood Bowl 2 doesn't have too much randomness, just the right amount. You just gotta do your more secure actions first and go from there. Keep that apothecary for deaths or major injuries.

At least Blood Bowl 2 doesn't have a spell where you screw up and randomize half of your enemy's army along with damage >.>

Cyclone is such a fun spell, especially with the master air 3 skill (goes up to a 3*3 square randomly throwing creatures in a 9*9 square)

That being said if the other one has grandmaster air (just one step ahead) you do not want to be in a formation anyway

It's a fun spell when you have it. But if you care about a strategy game, it's NOT fun. It's not like I tested it a lot, but I've never lost a roughly equal fight when I had it and I've never won a fight against anyone good enough that had the spell when I didn't have it.

3x3 and affect big creatures as well as small ones and do damage at the same time is just too much, even if you spread out your army because you know your opponent has the spell.

i dont agree with kanya here. i like to have different feel in different spells and i like adapting to different situations n combat. as a part of fun and challange, and TACTÝC(because i think this is very tactical, as a user or as a target) it should be in game. in fact, i even want more spells like this. spells doesnt really feel different when they do direct damage, because everything allready can make direct damage.

If anything H6 showed that anti-turtling spells are necessary.

Yeah but that doesn't justify going extreme about it. In a strategy game, you want to favor strategy over randomness. You need just enough randomness to keep things interesting, not too much.

H6 had a few anti turtling tricks. Poison field, stuff like that. Heck, at the end of H6, everybody knew that doing two smaller turtles was better than one big turtle.

That typhoon god damn spell is more than "anti turtle". It's "anti turtle", it does a lot of damage and it's also anti front line. You can  screw enemy front lines with it. It's just too much. Moving units in proper squares is supposed to be the most tactical move you can do, that spell just screws everything tactical you can do on the grid. It's just too much.

It's also the spell that does the most damage on small units with the master perk (72 * power). Only implosion can do more (much much more but still).

I don't know if it is that bad : the whole air magic is there to mess with your formation. Two spells and the grandmaster skill make it a very good choice against haven which rely on formations.

Personally I am more concerned about implosion and time lapse : one almost one shot one of your group while the other prevent a stack to act and both can be casted the same turn. Coupled with some fast units this drastically reduce the possible combinations you can put against it and look to me as quite scary for most might heroes.

Voted Other for one good reason:

It will be an exact copy cat of the Hammers of Fate's first expansion of Heroes 5 version 2.0.

Brings in a totally redesigned type of an R.M.G. and, obviously, the extra faction of Fortress(Dwarven city). Quite possibly fixing the game based map generation from within itself + some minor bugs. Just like in Summer of 2006.

This time around though, instead of waiting for version 3.0 for a Stand-Alone Edition, version 2.0 will. The Inferno faction might be reserved as an additional DLC to the game(Maybe late Fall of this year:2016?).

Please be wrong!!!
At least if "random skills" now allow to get different combinations it won't be to bad for a temporary solution (yet probably unbalanced with GM defense for wizards and ...).

Do not forget that the R.M.G. is well under way and, quite possibly, save that game's face.

As long as the devs have the courage and will to make a game completing DLC that features the Inferno faction as the 8th and final one of the overall game's faction content, I will give the doubt of a Heroes 8 title's possible development. Think of it: Heroes 8 in Direct X 12's extreme graphics quality and world map immersion =

Interestingly Shades of Darkness is not bad considering there is almost no complaint, and yet the game stayed quiet from there on. The base line is if the Vanilla is not so good, it is hard a good expansion to save it. So I voted for No.2

I actually like the Lineup for the fortress, H6 had the problem almost all units were dwarves which was kinda lame.

But here only two distinct dwarves and some cool looking units (the dragon, lava ellemental).

And the kobolds remind me of Mice and mystics (a board game) they look pretty cute

But I won't be blind and buy this game right away....let's see what the results are and i'm gonna be an idiot and have positive expectations

Edit: The release date seems to be the 4th of august

RMG will save the game lol. This game doesn`t have adequate map objects to make interesting random map.

Considering they can`t make proper battle sites, no matter how many more neutrals and pseudo map objects they put in, the RMG map will be boring, unexciting and just plain stupid.

@Natalka: The current R.M.G. might be a little clumsy but finds a way to put a lot...

of unique neutral creature dwellings such as the Elemental Conflux that offers the possibility of hiring the whole set of all possible kinds of elementals known to Ashan(7 different units). I would really like to see a full army of these elementals with a half decent hero taking down enemy heroes or the surrounding various neutrals protecting all kinds of artifacts, resources' piles and, treasure chests.

If you do not have the patience at letting it generate a decent size map, you are, indeed, missing a lot out of this marvelous game's R.M.G. Therefore, such map has to be at least medium in size and 6 players minimum. Even dimensional gates are showing up on such sizable map that suggests that only truly large invading armies are worthy to continue on the other side of the map. Plenty of never before seen or even known altars, pop up on these enigmatic maps.

The only unfortunate bug is the naming of the size of the map when it comes to the list of maps available within the adventure maps folder(screen page). It shows as being a Small even though it is a full fledge medium map without underground.

I am completing one at this very moment and, did you know that the haven town can be maximized in development by the end of the first month of said game/map? Leveled it all the way to level 40 with nothing available to build, anymore. Over 6000 Gold and 2 types of rare resources to hire only one of these level 7 creatures(Sword Master = upgrade of the Landsnecht).
