This is why alchemists start with mysticism
Hello.
I always did not like that alchs start with mysticism, and couldn't understand what was going in the minds of those who chose these starting skills. But I think this is probably the only explanation why they start with mysticism:
"Because Mysticism and Learning Look the same, an open book, H3 Designers who were choosing starting secondary skills mixed up between them and gave many alchemists mysticism as starting skill instead of learning. Giving them Learning was what's intended"
Now, one may say "this is very stupid mistake and it is impossible that it was only for this reason". I will put the information upon which I based this "explanation"
A-)When you look at the biography of those alchemists starting with mysticism, you will notice they are all "Learning" new things, and researching stuff with alchemy. Hence, it totally fits that they start with Learning Secondary Skill, while mysticism has nothing to do with that.
1-)Josephine was the first to successfully animate a stone golem, creating a process that was much more sophisticated than that used for the gargoyle, on which her research was based.
2-)Piquedram spent much of his schooling in Alchemy dealing with various types of non-valuable rock. It is no surprise, then, that in the service of Bracada he was able to improve upon the basic design of the Gargoyle.
3-)Rissa was the first Alchemist to perfect the art of converting useless soft metals into mercury. Though now commanding her own army, she spends much of her idle time experimenting with other materials.
4-)Torosar is formally trained as an Alchemist, though he has always had an interest in battlefield and siege tactics, often studying texts on the subject of war more frequently than on the subject of alchemy.
Not only that, but you can also see that biography generally fits SS and Specialty (Fiur is strongest and starts with adv offence. Kalt loves to learn and starts with Learning, also Thane was teaching for long and he starts with adv scholar. Tyris bio with specialty and tactics skill. Also many liches start with learning... etc etc)
B-) First of all, Alchemistshave high chance to get Learning each level (10). 10 is the highest chance that any hero class can get for particular SS. Generally, if a hero class has chance of 10 to roll particular SS, there will be usually many heroes who have this particular SS as starting skill. in some cases, all of them will start with this particular SS. I will list them below now, and all of the hero classes will be linked:
1-) Knightclass have 10 chance to roll Leadership; all knights start with Leadership
2-)Clericshas 10 chance to roll First Aid, and Rion the cleric has First aid specialty and starts with first aid Secondary skill. They have 7 chance to roll Diplomacy and Adela starts with Diplomacy
3-)Wizardshave 10 chance to roll Intellegence, and Daremyth starts with intellegence. They also have 10 chance to roll Wisdom, and all start with wisdom SS
4-) Demoniacshave 10 chance to roll Logistics, and Pyre starts with basic Logistics. They also have 8 chance to roll Offense, and 2 Demoniacs (namely Nymus and Octavia) start with Offense. Demoniacs also have 7 chance to roll Armorer, and Marius starts with Armorer
5-)Hereticshave 10 chance to roll Mysticism, and Axsis is specialized in Mysticism
6-) Death knights and Necromancers all start with Necromancy (has 10 chance to roll)
6-)Overlordshave 10 chance to roll Tactics, and 3 Overlords start with Tactics as secondary skill (Dace, Gunnar, and Shakti). Overlords alos have 8 chance to roll Offense, and 4 of them (Shakti, Arlach, Damacon, and Dace) all start with Offense. Also, 3 of them (Ajit, Synca, and Lorelei) start with Leadership, with 8 chance to roll it
7-)Warlockshave 10 chance to roll Sorcery, and Malekith is specialized in Sorcery. They also have 10 chance to roll Wisdom and all start with Wisdom.
8-)Barbarians have 10 chance to roll Offense and they all start with Offense. Beastmasters have 10 chance to roll Armorer and all of them start with it as well. the second SS of all barbarians have high chance to roll as well (least is Resistance 6 chance, others are arti7 , archery 7, path finding 8 scouting 8 Tactics 8 Balistics 8)
9-)Rangershave 9 chance to roll Resistance, and 3 Rangers (Thorgrim, clancy, and Ufretin) all start with Resistance. Rangers also have 8 chance to roll Archery, and 3 Rangers (Jenova, Kyre, and Ivor) all start with Archery. Mephala is specialized in Armorer, with 8 chance to roll for Rnagers.
10-) Planeswalkershave 8 chance to roll Tactics, with 4 heroes starting with it, and have 9 chance to roll Offense with 4 heroes starting with it. They also have 8 chance to roll Logistics and Monere starts with it.
In the end, I feel this is probably a good explanation why alchemists out of all classes have 4 heroes starting with mysticism (actually any other mage class only has 1 hero with mysticism at most)

Are you saying all alchemists should have started with Learning? Cause that would make them uber bad. Learning is the worst skill in the game, yes even worse than Eagle Eye. Mysticism is not much better, but it is better.
I have actually considered disabling Learning, as this skill actually takes more from you than it gives...

Not all alchs
Only the 4 heroes who have mysticism mentioned above (but I would give Torosar archery instead)
Edit: also, learning is pretty good in wog XD

All Alchemists, Rangers and Overlords have one of their secondary skills tied to their race.
Alchemists-genies start with Scholar
Alchemists-humans start with Mysticism
Rangers-gnomes start with Resistance
Rangers-elves start with Archery
Rangers-humans and Overlords-humans start with Leadership
Overlords-troglodytes start with Offense
Overlords-minotaurs start with Tactics.
Knights, Death knights, Demons, Barbarians, Beastmasters do not follow this rule.
(although all knights are humans and start with Leadership) (also Rashka and Octavia both efreeti (aka evil genies) and start with Scholar)
