Jenova, as far as I see you are complaining about obstacles (you didn`t move your archers forward in H3 did you?) so why do you want to put them in the front row? Maybe you just played w/ centaurs or orcs? The have twice the normal range penalty.

Okay, but what about a spread out formation? If you have everybody fully spread out (I think it's the top formation in the list), it should be okay. Yeah, you'll have your melee troops slowed down by a turn, but if you really want your archers in front that's probably the only solution.

I've tried every archer just about, even titans. At the back row, you never get full damage (very rarely anyway). And no I never moved my archers forward in H3. I always used the archery skill so there was no need.

Sniper's Crossbow
This item adds to the heroe's ranged attack, but also removes all range penalties for his units. Definately a handy item.

well, if I told you I had found more than one on a map, would you hate me forever? It seems to come up about as often as any other artifact for me. ::shrugs:: it's all a matter of luck with the random artifacts and wizard's boxes.

Apologies for the 3do staff !
Finally after months i have reinstalled HOMM4 and finished the campaigns ( Original + The Gathering Storm )
I must admit that i was wrong ! HOMM4 is a genious game after all !It is so much different from the previous HOMM3 that i didn't understand it as i should have. It is a worth buying game after all. To be more explicit , it is a must have game ! Now that i finally got the hang of it i just can't stop playing it ! It will stay on my HDD for years to come, that's for sure. 3DO staff , please accept my apologies, and keep up the good work !

You're simply getting old.

Tell me, how are ranged units penaltized in this game if melee units are slower in general ? I can use your own arguments against you.
"The grail is disappointing. 3000 gold a day? Pathetic."
City hall in H3 provides you with 2000 gold per day, and the grail with another 5000. So it gives you +250% income.
Now, City Hall in h4 makes you earn 1000 gold pieces per day. Grail structure brings extra 3000 gold. This means that your income is increased by +300%. Now who's pathetic ?
"I have to move forth with crap units so I can get more resources to afford the 4th level troops."
4th level creatures aren't required to defeat your opponent.At least you still have something to strive for.

Indeed. Those abilities are just bonuses. When you promote your hero to advanced class, he/she gains good access to those 2 choosen skill trees (e.g. Tactics and Combat), and that should be your primary concern.

One has to face cosequences of choices he makes. Tip: you'd better focus on 2-3 skill trees (instead of 5) before developing new area. It requires LOTS of skill points.
If you have magic skills only (no combat at all) your hero most likely won't be able to survive long enough to make use of magic. That's what I call real waste.

I regret even thinking of buying this game. And u know what I regret even more? that I actually bought the game too 
Well, done is done......those money could had been spent on something else though  .....grrrrrrrrr

Because they're getting old.
In most cases they're unable to put in some reasonable arguments. Most of them are "the rocket launcher isn't red anymore !" style.
Lack of tactics in h4... Hmpf.
H4 introduced whole new level of tactics in Heroes Of Might And Magic - cretures to choose, hero type and development now does matter BIG time, spells aren't that random anymore... Too much to list here.
