Duel of Champions 2 - interview
  Hi,

As a treat for all Duel of Champions fans we present probably the last interview concerning the game. We got in touch with Théo Gallego, Might & Magic Game Director at Ubisoft. He shared with us his thoughts and plans for the game's further development, including plans for a cancelled sequel as well as some very early card projects.

The interview is here:

The reviewing of the cards system is a good thing, thanks to that we might hope for some more factions to show up.

Just hope the game won't disappear.

And here I thought we'd see DoC 2 for a second, but the article talks about a sequel that never saw the light of day. Early concepts were ripped from the compendium, changes removed most of the previous mechanics from the original DoC. Explains some of the circumstances surrounding the game in 2014-2015 and hints at the possibility that DoC might resurface again in the future.

Basically close to nothing.

Well, I wouldn't say it's "close to nothing", but yes, those plans are cancelled (I added this word to my first post) and the interview only shows what could have been. The game has no further future as of now - at least nothing I'm aware of.

It's sad, really. It isn't a surprise they failed to do more with that game, considering this Blue Byte was also behind the game. In short, it is a wasted opportunity.

nice interview man,

well that's the way it is with these always online games unfortunately,
even if somewhat fun and polished they always wind up disposed of in the garbage junkyard at the end of the day, wish they weren't so dependent on servers to be able to play them forever but that's the publishers want, drink the money well dry then set it on fire lol

anyway, wouldn't he be the ex-Might & Magic Game Director rather, since Might & Magic games are no longer produced lol

I was not aware of a planned second title. What a pity, the changes looked so good too.

Fewer faction cards was the right call if they wanted to introduce new factions and fortune/building cards never felt needed. Might and magic is the core theme anyway and magic would have benefited from expanding the schools that can be used. Focus on neutral cards would also be a sound plan and make the release of new sets easier. But I liked attack and retaliation values being separate in the original, it made haven more unique.

PS dryad artwork looks great, they should have gone with that in H7.

Yeah it really is a shame, I really enjoyed this game at first, then they started to complicate some stuff with buildings for example, there was also soo many cards and yeah fortune cards kind of felt redundant. I like the direction they were going for DoC 2 and there would be Sylvan!

As a person who played DoC everyday for 2 years straight at a high lv, 1550+ or champion 3 after or whatever it was called, I can tell u for certain that a DoC 2 game would have been just another cash grab that after 2-3 expansions and only half the races and content that would have been promised to be in the game, it would have gone straight to the dumbster like every other m&m ubi project.

Coming back to this, it's quite astounding how a billion dollars company such as Ubisoft got so scared by Heartstone that they abandoned their DoC IP completely, all while smaller publishers like CD Projekt Red and Bethesda release GWENT and TESL respectively to enter a growing market. This is insane to me. They had a head start, an established IP and even the better card game and just bailed. Classic Ubisoft.
