I love Heroes IV not because of shares or anything like that. It is because i am truly entranced by it. The Colour, animations and gameplay as well as the music is all superb.
So heroes IV has a few bugs. So what! Everyother game released has had bugs in and they were popular games.
Every game released is goning to have patches brought out after them. This is fact of life.
I much prefer Heroes IV to Say Pool of Radiance.
Heroes III was buggy and it was fixed by a couple of patches.
Heroes IV will be excatly the same.

I believe that Stealth problem can be solved simply by with victory conditions. Like controlling all towns for three days or conquering specific town. Players don't have to hunt that opponent's last creature stack that way.

Ok sure, you know maybe I was wrong about h4...when i first played AoWSM I thought it sucked but TEL made me play him in MP and I started to get it. Now I think it's the best game I ever played.
Everyone I tell to play it plays it for 10 minutes then tells me it sucks. But this rationale h4 may be a great game so I will install it right now and give it a chance. By the way these post are old so does anyone still think it deserves a chance still?

I didn't read the whole thread... But last time I tried Heroes 4 it was a disgrace to the serie. Now that 3DO is gone I doubt that the situation is better. I don't see how anyone could like this game, and it have nothing to do with early release or balance issues.
- The game AI is horrible
- The online turns take way too too long
That's the only two reasons I need. The game is not fun in single or multiplayer.

A long post regarding my experience with HIV, stick around you might learn something.
When Heroes IV hit my local best-buy I couldn't wait to Bring her home, and fire her up!
Nearly sundering the box, in gleefull atempts to get at the instruction manual, that glorious full color poster, detailing all the new (and familiar) creatures that would soon be at my very command, and of course the CD itself.
Placing it ever-so reverently into my cd drive, I was greeted by some familiar music, for just a moment I paused, mouse pointer hovering over the Install button.
"I hope it makes that cool bongo noise when I click this"
-click-
-Wheeeeeeee-
???
Gone was my beloved bongo noise, replaced by a sound that could only be described as an alien space-craft taking off from Earth. It was all downhill from there.
After pouring over the manual, and tinkering with the tutorial, I embarked on my first single scenario.
After recruiting some low level troops, two level one troops to be exact (blasphemy!), I stumbled across some zombies guarding a mine, my best friend the right mouse button informed me that the only thing between me and the lumber yard were "scores" of zombies.
"Scores?" I pondered aloud. It was then that I realized that NWC was gone for good, and probably not coming back.
Eager to prove to myself that I had not wasted fifty-four dollars, I decided that scores must be something between lots and a pack and waded in.
Pregnant women, and the faint-of-heart may want to leave the room at this point, because it gets ugly.
GONE was my familiar mounted hero, casting an ominous gaze over the battle field, and in his stead was an isometric nightmare.
my hand shook as I cocked my head, in a vain attempt to simulate the familiar right vs. left battlefield.
"alright, no problem, I'm sure it just takes some getting used to... now I'll just find my hexgrid toggle and get started..."
Fifty-four dollars, and I couldnt even get a hex-grid toggle?! not even a movement shadow!
Things continued on in this manner, getting progressively worse, little things that may be fixed in patches continued to pile up, and the general "unwieldyness" of the game was overwhelming.
Heroes can exist withought towns (that + grandmaster stealth = fun multiplayer games, and by fun I mean god-terrible)
Creatures accumulate everyday, and I dont even need a hero to manage them, sure getting critters everyday is okay, if your interested in buying 6 stacks of creatures everyday, and kissing your day seven invasions goodbye.
the list goes on, in my opinion HIV is a good game if you've never played a real HOMM game before, other than that take your fifty-four buckazoids and go buy something more worthwhile, like extended warranties.

Don't get me Wrong, Theres alot of good parts to the game, the character development is innovative, as is the town progression (lots of tough choices), but I really need a hex-grid, especially with the new distance rules (yards), I know what a yard looks like in real life, but I have some trouble discerning yards on my PC monitor, theres nothing to really go on.
I think that aspect really turned me away from H4, that and the towns are very different from what I was used to, the dwellings costing TONS, and the creatures being comparatively cheap.
Maybe these are good things, and I know I'll be there with the rest of you when the first patch is released, untill then my copy of h4 will stay on the top-shelf in the closet.

This may risk to offend you, but we have had nearly "SCORES" of patches released for it ... but you hang on to your feelings
