Poll Question:
Warlock Hydra VS Swamp Hydra

I am curious.

In a future heroes game (setting is unimportant), reintroducing the swamp faction, while a version of the warlock faction exists, which faction should have the Hydra unit? Given of course only one of them is going to have a Hydra. And which alternatives would there be to the Hydra?

Responses:
Warlock
Swamp Fortress

SWAP HYDRA!

I just love the look and feel of swamp-adapted hydras plus the original one also lived in a swamp. I also prefer it with legs but they shouldn't be large or adapted for walking. More crocodilian...

Depends on whether or not Dungeon has an elf infestation, if they do, (swamp) Fortress, if not Dungeon.

I can support that, I do like the swamp fortress a lot and it doesn't feel the same without the hydra. Beside, I like the look of H3's Chaos Hydra.

I for one supports the dark elves in dungeon, though in a much less significant role than previously. But that is for another post.
What I don't get is why the elves matter with the Hydra?

Being a fan of both warlocks and hydras, I'd definitely like to see a proper Swamp faction in the game again. Who in their right mind doesn't miss Tazar wreaking havoc on the map with the enemy consistently doing 2-3 damage even with their strongest toons?

It was cool, original, and way more fun to play than Stronghold - and the Hydra fits perfectly into the idea of a defence-oriented might faction. To sort of compensate I rather see the warlock faction 'fused' with the barbarians, like NWC planned for H5. And out with the sado-elves!

We can agree about the swamp faction, it is a wonder that it haven't returned yet, but I suppose we should just blame Ubisoft for that.

Not so sure about Stronghold though, I prefer them and the warlocks to have their own faction, seeing as I actually do enjoy playing Stronghold.
And what arguments would there be to actually scrap the darkelves, other than they wasn't in the original games and some people are tired of them? While I do think that if the series moves forward to a new setting, they should have a different role within the dungeon faction rather than the supreme rulers they where before, but I still see no reason for them to be just scrapped like that. I'm gonna make a tread about this subject, so let's just leave it for now.

I also miss H3 Fortress and without Hydra wouldn't feel right. Regarding the art design, I prefer the legless Hydra style (H1/H2/H7).

for my share I would certainly put her/him in the Fortress instead of the Dungeon unless the Fortress is not about,

above all she/he has always been put in the swamp which is very logical except for in Ashan where put in the cave because Ashan is stupid lol

Not stupid, less mythologically accurate and overall less fitting, but when you take a moment to consider if in a fantasy setting, a creature like the hydra could live underground. Do consider that dragons live there too. But yeah, swamps fits better though.

Swamp, kill the Dark Elves forever. Turn them into Dokkalfar or Svartalfar.

Is it a matter of naming, or do you want to point a difference worth bothering for?

Thematic choice. Hydras represent something inhuman and monstrous, as they display decidedly non-conventional biology, which wouldn't fit well with a human-like civilisation, and elves of any sort are sufficiently human-like to count.

And my choice for a Dungeon 'hero-species' would be something along the lines of the Illithid from DnD.

I like the thematic choice, it's something I can get behind. The Illithid not so much, prefers something more open, like the darkelves. Although my ideal dungeon is more a collection of races.

I would put the hydra into the swamps.

Warlock/Dungeon could still have dragons, giant worms or other stuff but Swamp Fortress?

Do not know something else but hydra.

Beside the original H3 lineups, we could include Medusa, nagas*, or even draconians as races, and for cretures there are stuff like giants insects and perhaps a kind of quetzacoalt inspired creature. The Hydra holds great iconic value though.

*I'm supportive of Nagas in the swamp faction, but more so of nagas in a Sanctuary/Water faction.

I vote swamp.
However i guess you could make up other cool swamp monsters as tier 7.

A giant crocolisk or the basilisk/gorgom should move up some tiers
