I have decided to get Baptised.

While HCers come from all walks of life, faith and we have overcome many different trials together, as this has always been a special place to many of us. My journey has been long and there is still much to come thus I wanted to breathe new life and new beginning into where I am and where I am going and that's through embracing my newfound faith in harmony with my old pagan traditions. Luckily thanks to the understanding of the wonderful people at St Martin's and my local chaplaincy I will not be required to renounce my old gods or the many blessings and favour they have bestowed upon me, they're one requirement is that I embrace Jesus Christ and his love which I am most ardent to do so. The thought that I might have to do so was literally the only thing keeping me from this, and now I am simply overjoyed to the point where I can't express it with words. <3

You lovely people at HC are the first to know (though others in my ring of friends and family no doubt will not be surprised as this is part of an ongoing process).

Also incase anyone's wondering I will take a baptismal name in dedication of Saint Ibar (and yes I will convert it to Ivor, but it is nothing short of providence).

So you're telling me this is genuine and not a joke? Then, if you take it so lightly, why baptize at all? You're missing the point.

I do admit that the thought of it sounds appealing but it would kinda undermine the happy occasion if I forced such good people to witness something that they would very likely find terribly distressing.

I need to get in touch with my chaplain and then then the Parish of St Martin (which I have been frequenting) for when to have the ceremony. I would prefer it around my birthday but late march or even late April would be fine as well (getting it closer to the Saint day of Ibor).,

Lol. (I'm not laughing, it means Lucifer our Lord.)

This reminds me of the time when I was new around here and tsar was very fondly speaking about some Catholic rituals and then there was this debate about how something such as hell would make sense when nobody is good or evil in the binary sense and he said something like "how come you assume I believe in hell" and I said "well, because you are a Catholic" and he told me he wasn't, so I searched back all the posts where he praised that stuff just like a believer and he replied something like:

- I like the clothes of the clergy and the ceremony.

I've always been very fond of Christian rituals (and clothing my God those people know how to dress sleek), but I've never really considered myself one with the faith, luckily modern Christianity especially the fine people at my uni's chaplaincy (ye we have one embedded in our university ^^) are extremely pragmatic and welcoming to all. This is the style of Christianity that I want to belong to and promote as I turn over a new leaf in my life, true that there is no need for a formal ceremony or to be a Christian for me to do this, but it's nice to be be able to belong and to be associated as such.

You misunderstood, Baronus. A man taking a bath in public is not more  a Christian after it than he was before. Tsar is not committing to Christian doctrine or Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he just likes the tradition and practices. Form without substance.

I've never rejected Christ, I've often blashphemed but due to lack of discipline and never out of any inate desire to disgrace the Lord.

And Stevie, while that was true before it isn't now, I finally decided to take a step toward what I originally found to be attractive and actually become part of the wider Christian community, while I shall preach I will never do it out of the desire to subjugate people under the banner of Christ, only the willing.

You don't have to reject Him, not accepting Him is enough.

EDIT:
Look man, this is rather simple. You can take the name of "Christian" if you believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and personal Messiah. Baptism is your public testimony of that, you basically affirm Christ as your Lord and Savior. If you don't believe in Him as God and if you don't ask Him in prayer to deliver you from sin and death, baptizing has no meaning. You might believe I'm discouraging you, and yes, in a way I am. I am discouraging you to do things half-assedly and without conviction and encouraging you to commit fully. I took that step myself after a long thought and many prayers and realizing the reality of Christ's salvation at a personal level. But, if you do in fact believe, then I couldn't be happier for you and welcome you as a brother of the faith. These things you should know from reading the Bible, or at least from a catechism crash course.

i think all this seriousness about jesus is part of the reason why people are deterred from christianity itself. jesus was a cool hippy-like dude. if christians would just relax and be like, "peace, man", they'd understand(and spread) his message a whole lot better.

I really don't get where this imagination of Him comes from. Jesus was an entrepreneur (or at least, he worked for his stepfather who was that) and a king by birthright who spoke out very bluntly against the establishment and the good™ people of his day.

It's great that you've got baptized, tSar-Ivor. Congratulations!

Without a doubt this is the correct course of action, while I will not renounce the pagan gods whose blessings I have enjoyed for so long, I am now more than ready to embrace Christ's love and in turn illuminate those around me with it. Make no mistake, this is the first step on the long road, but it is not done without conviction, the trials and errors of the last few weeks have been the necessary slap in the face for me to finally make a step toward something that has always allured me but I kept myself from, I simply lacked the key as it were, I had no true reason or motivation.

My reasons for being baptised are simple and I think very acceptable, love - pure and simple, love for Christ and love for all my fellow human beings. While my knowledge of scripture is limited only to the theological undertakings in the past, that is no requirement for being baptised (afterall many children are, 10,000 a year in England alone). This is my proclamation of acknowledging Christ as my master and teacher, my learning begins here and now that I acknowledge him. But yes, to answer your question my decision is sincere and my conviction absolute.

But I can see where you're coming from despite the fact that I found your question and quasi objection very strange at first. It should've been obvious to me (but didnt occur) that many people make leaps of faith randomly or wily-nily.

I recall my mother's baptism some 6 years ago now (will find actual date if anyone is curious - Mormon though) and it had to be one of the most droll occasions ever, not a single indication of God's love or even a smile on people's faces or the priest's either during the sermon before it or the actual procession.

Not that I find the slightest thing wrong with the way she practices her faith in absentia of any holy establishment, but the occasion itself didn't feel particularly so. (lol I only just realised that she was actually baptised btw, I always knew she had faith especially so after last week, but yeah not a church goer). Back on point, I sincerely wish my mood will be excellent so a that my ceremony will have at the very least one glowing smile so we may remember what it is we are undertaking ^^'. I have  little doubts though, the people at the local parish are some of the most humane and understanding people I've ever met.
