Should we be more serious in our chats in the forums? Supposedly it might be a concern for some.
Is investing in the wastelands and make it flourish counterproductive to the community, knowing that the investment in that part is temporary, as funny, great and entertaining as it may be, and that many subjects in the other side can't be disscussed without risking heating?

Osm discussions turn into arguments. Vw stuff is fun. My vote is for fun. When was the last time anything in the osm was interesting, anyway? It's always the same tired pov's, the same arguments, the same divides between people. Having fun and being a more light-hearted community just makes sense. Which is why the vw works.

OSM can certainly use a few new members with fresh perspective. I used to be that new blood for a few years but it inevitably gets repetitive after a while. Same thing can be said about the VW to a lesser degree though. I used to laugh harder at blizz's jokes when I was new but now I'm kind of used to them, the place and its synergy isnt what it used to be either. But then again, older members used to say the same thing when I was new, guess everyone has a period they are nostalgic about, before things became routine for them.

The tavern's the best place for interesting content, imo. It's the midway point between the osm and the vw.
If you oldheads feel uneasy, then make a thread in the tavern once in awhile. Don't expect the noob's to carry your old asses, gramps.

See my addition to that reply. I've posted more than a few threads in the tavern, myself. I'm more active there than a lot of the old farts. They have no reason to be whining at all.

I used to post in the politics section of bodybuilding.com (in my college undergraduate days when I was stupid and thought American libertarianism / Rand was the enlightened way) and it was a slugfest. HC is very tame in comparison. But, it was in the crucible of bodybuilding.com that I learned to be go-lucky and not worry about people that get worked up. 90% of the time, hostility results from a person feeling threatened.

I'm not even sure when things changed, or if it has been like this since before I joined.
I mean I try to make the proper posts for the different forums, but to be honest I'm much more guided by the actual topic at hand than where the topic is posted.
Of course if it's e.g. in the osm, I'll limit myself much more than if it is in the VW, but the content I want to share doesn't arise because it is one particular forum or another.

The greater part of us cant keep from discussions turning into a flare war! Just say Israel once and someone bond to bash it and it people, same goes for alot of things. I would even think of removing the osm for that reason.

Well the forum's first aim was to discuss Heroes of Might and Magic games series, the various aspects of the games, strategies, news and so on.
I don't know when and how "off-topic" subforums were created, but it contributed to the maintai of a community, even though if the game was still a great game, the forum would be way more populated.
OSM section is good but sometimes I have the bitter feeling that it's of no use, usually after having posted much. But you just can't help it sometimes and have to post when someone is wrong on the internet.
