Good idea. We need it. Units can be animated now because are very small in game. But townscreen must be of course better..

This project is only few days old. Author has concept of this whole fraction, few 2d graphics but there's no 3d designer.

Now I know which site this is from.
I dont like the way they say a faction of the EAST.
That was a 99% Japanese literally.
Anyway, Im looking forward to this new faction.

It's cultural and geographical niuances. For people from central-east part of Europe, everything that lies for the right side of the map is called 'east'.

That is exactly one of my concerns. Game of words and ambiguous expression.
Grammatically maybe no problem.
But that just sounds like saying all easterners are the same, all asians look the same.
I simply dont like the feeling of being represented, as I have always been represented by my 'dearest' government. I dont hate the Jap. I just dont want to be represented purposely or not.
Anyway, as I can see Jap culture is much more popular than the other asian cultures globally. I was a Jap anime fan as well. Sad for the Chinese but true.

Asian cultures are completly different. China and Japan are similiar if you compare with Arabia! Arabia Its asia too :-) So ,,eastern" culture is a great nonsence. China is rather like latin or german Europe. Similiar nations and one latin/german culture. But Japan and China is like Germans and Latins. Of course its only sample. If you build city from one culture you must know something about.
You can do animations from this scraps. It will be minimalised so you dont see a lot of it :-):-):-)

Good idea. Dont have 100% faith that town will be made.
But i am also a big fun of Japan and anime so this faction is surely needed.

In Japan surely.
In Europe the chinese culture is more present, much more. Then in Heroes 3, who did an entire chinese patch as present to our chinese friends?

Japan is westernised country. Too much westernised.
China for years was a closed communist concentration camp. Some limited freedom was there for few years... So world dont know about China so much as about Japan. We see Japan films non only big art anime... For art must be freedom...

Well, Japanese lore is undoubtedly the strongest inspiration here, but aren't Red devils, Quilins, Monkeys and Fox spirits universal among Japan, China and Korea's mythologies? I'm honestly curious.

I would rather say it's stereotype problem not "westenised problem.". Most peopla in western europe can't see the (or hear) the difference bettwen Poland and Russia. When they hear polish they will in 80% say that it's Russia.
Despite the fact, that we have only few words similiar, we have a diffrent culture, religion etc...
I quite understand xericsin. It's a bit frustrating when 90% populations of this world always we will see something "eastern" they always say JAPAN!
Paradoxically, almost 90% from which "far east is build" (sterotopic clothing[Kimono], religion [Buddhism], Architecture, some parts of culture etc...) is originally from China

Language is completly another question. I dont heard a lot of languages and maybe if I will first time heard Bask words I will think thats chinese... :-) I dont think that people dont recognized Russia now... But now school system going down and people dont know literally nothing... In France they dont read Dumas books eg. Its not a high level literature for experts... But they dont read...
I dont think that people dont heard about China. But they know nothing about more... And really thay think that is the same like Japan.

China and Japan had much communication during the Tang Dynasty 1000 years ago. So Japanese culture was heavily influenced by the Chinese. But its development is quite different from China.
I heard one interesting story (or just a nonsense). In the Journey to the West, there was a 9-headed snake defeated by the Monkey King. It fled into the East Sea after one head being destroyed. So some people guess it swam to Japan and became the 8-headed snake in Japan. That was in the Tang Dynasty as well.

Red devil sounds more Japanese to me. Maybe it is something that the Chinese have lost. As of now, I only know Red Army .
Quilin (Qilin or Kirin) is a Chinese word. So I think it originates from China and said to be one son of the Dragon. And it is quite common in China and Japan. So I give the 0.5% difference to this. 
The monkey is definitely a Chinese one. So I give the 0.5% difference to it. And the design has a strong Japanse style. See the plates around the waist and the hand-like feet.
The fox in China was mostly associated with attractive females with a negative implication. But in Japanese (anime), I see a lot of beautiful positive male foxes. And the Chinese is starting to have that positive implication as well. As I can tell from the fox design here. I would say it is more Japanese.

Lastly, about Korea. It was a mixture of China and Japan. And is now a mixture of China, Japan and the West. It (almost) never had its own unique culture, but it is doing well with those foreign ones.
They play well with the borrowed mythologies as if they are their own. (This sentence has double meanings. )
Many of their modern-themed movies that reflect about humanity are excellent.

All this country has had own culture but all of it was destroyed. In China we in fact we have literary nothing from past its completly new mix soviet and western consumption styles. In South Korea and Japan old culture was destroyed too but slowly by receiving western samples. It was bad. They should receive christianity NOT western degeneration. And should have own christian culture like in Europe. I think all this country need restoration own culture...

Animal can be symbol other things.
Rabbit in west = cowardice in Japan eg. = smartness.
In Greek mythology we have medusas. In India nagas...
And we must know differences. But a lot are similiar eg. dragons...
