curse words not edited in poll choices?

i wasn't aware that poll choices weren't subject to the wordfilter. is there any way to change that?

As already explained to you here, auto censoring does not protect one from penalties for scatological language that was not censored by the user. I was going to penalise your post but decided against it in favour of Corribuses lenience. Consider this a final warning. Any moderator may instantly penalise you now for any scatological language without warning.

As for the glitch in the system I may consider addressing it at some point but this one is not a high priority.

you seem to be under the impression that the mistake was intentional. i had no way of knowing poll option choices weren't subject to the wordfilter. that you STILL think it is beneath your concern and refuse to bother fixing the issue, and yet are willing to penalyze someone for something you don't fix, is disconcerting; to say the least.

regardless; now that i know that it's going to be a ongoing problem, i'll take care to type accordingly in poll options.

He doesn't have to fix, the code of conduct is explicit about curse words. The filter is in place mostly for new users, whose language may slip because not yet aware. Myself when I use a curse word, I directly use the "snow" version, why bother.

It is the poster's responsibility to avoid swear words, not the filter's to prevent them. Pretty sure this has been stated before.

if it was entirely up to the member to make sure that they stay within the coc regarding swear words, then the wordfilter wouldn't exist, period. the wordfilter is a line of security; both for val's plans for the environment here, and to prevent users from incurring penalties when posting in a manner akin to which they speak irl. i don't have a problem that the wordfilter exists, it works as designed by valeriy. it acts like security at a club; certain types of riff-raff(words, in this case) don't get in, and everyone continues to have a good time inside. now, if there is a hole in the wordfilter, then that would allow riff raff inside. since they weren't checked at the door, then that would mean they would have to be thrown out by their collars(penalyzed, here). which could have been entirely prevented, if the wordfilters had done their job in the first place. to me, to leave a hole open for anyone to abuse/exploit(or to post a word they thought would be wordfiltered, as was my case), is less than responsible; especially being that, some members have done things that have forced negative changes by val's hand here at hc. if you're going to create security measures to prevent content that you don't want to have present on your website, then why would you leave a hole open for that content to slip through? it's a bad idea for both sides: content can get through by accident which would make an innocent person who doesn't know that the wordfilter doesn't work in poll options(and thus incur a penalty for them); and people with malicious tidings could post offending language at will. it's a lose-lose, no matter how you look at it. i understand that members could have the responsibility to NOT post language like that in the first place, but then, WHY the wordfilter?

now, IF EVERYONE knows the wordfilter has a vulnerability, this wouldn't be an issue(neverminding any malicious posters). but being that i've been here for years and i've never known the wordfilter even HAD this vulnerability(and was almost penalyzed for NOT KNOWING), then it stands to belief, that this could happen again, and easily. all i'm saying, is that that loophole should be closed. both for val's sake(to keep in line with his design for hc), and for the sake of members who could incur a penalty because they AREN'T AWARE the issue even exists.

It really is not a high priority issue to fix if it happens like once in 10 years.

I understand it doesn't make sense, but just because it doesn't make sense, doesn't mean it's not how it is.

the only reason it's a priority at all, is because of the threat of a penalty. if there would be no threats of penalties because of an error in the system, it wouldn't need fixed.

I was under the impression that you're obliged to star out swear words, letting the word-filter handle it is in essence against the CoC to begin with, so I really can't side with you here Fredmuffin.

(P.S if it were whether we have a right to swear I would back you up on that tho).

members starring out swear words is a rarity. mostly they'll use other words, or let the wordfilter "snow" it out. if we are supposed to star words out, then why does the wordfilter even exist then? it should be everything, or nothing at all.

like i said, it's a just a loophole that needs closing. until then, that very loophole can be exploited or can be punishable to the unknowing; which means that vulnerability can work against the mods, the members, and even val's idea for hc's peaceful environment, itself. it makes no sense to leave an unnecessary weakness to what makes the community run smoothly and comfortably.

Fred, none of what you said matters considering Val's earlier response.

[Users whose rude language was auto-censored (instead of them using the correct asterisk censoring procedure) will be penalized by the moderators unless the moderators choose to be more lenient.]

[Auto-censoring is not a guide for what is permissible or not under the CoC and does not protect people who violate the CoC from penalties.]

But Fred, you did reach the only one it matters to reach, you got a response from Val that it is not a top priority.
If you mean to get people to agree with you, Corribus stated himself he made Val aware of poll issues as well.

I don't understand what more you could get from this?

I get it. My point was that while not guaranteed, it's a penalty waiting to happen.
