How to convert old mods to work with 5.5 mod?

I can not understand how to do this, but there are a few number of mods that I have found and would like to convert. Anyone who would like to offer help on guide?

For starters - could you post them here and share what they change?
There is no way of giving advice without that knowledge.

Of course, thats a good start. The first mod,  which is huge, is the "Graphical Overhaul Mod", https://yadi.sk/d/QLsSLZmR3aWLJY. Some parts, but not all, already works with 5.5, but it can crash the game sometimes because of I believe, incompatiblility? The red peasant and iron golem is amazingly well done here.

The second mod is a package containing mostly new heroes. And I guess I would like to know how to convert skin mods for specific heroes in this "package".
https://yadi.sk/d/IwRKk7DT3HJLDc

For example how to convert the hero (in the above mentioned compilation pack), Sylvan - Ylthin.h5u? If I learn just one hero perhaps I can convert more heroes/stuff?

PS: I really have NO clue where to begin, but there are so many old mods that could work great with 5.5. Espacially graphical mods for heroes (very few faces that are female in 5.5) and creatures.

@Greenpakto,

I got the packs, checked them - there are some really nice stuff.
Later this week I will see what can be filtered out and put into a proper mod packages.

Meanwhile regarding texture editing you can check this articles:
- creature modding
- texture editing

Ah thank you for checking it out!

Those guides were hard to understand so far. I wanted to add "Chaos Theory" griffins for 5.5 (replace cartoon griffins) but I couldnt get the "feet" to work (from the "effect" folder of the mod).
I could get the regular one to show up but without feet,  and the royal griffin (second upgrade), witohut feet. The black talon (third upgrade), for some reason didnt show at all in haven.

All Chaos Theory creatures are included in the NCF Utility. You can spice up your game without modding.

Regarding changing the default creature lines I will go as far as there is a consistency in the design. I don't want to make the game a mess.

I agree about consistency. Heroes 5 unit graphics look silly (espacially haven), however it all fits together very well.

I knew about NCF mod, I use some of the creatures (about 10).

Apparently it is in the eye of the beholder - I liked the original homm 5 look and i also like the augmented appearance brought to us by the heroes 5.5 team (trying to remember the name of the guy - his graphic overhaul mod is included into homm 5.5. - but got now expanded by others since he is no longer maintaining it).

I REALLY dislike the art of hommm 6 (didn't play 7, but i'm not satisfied either juding by the videos i watched - later on the patch they introduced some color saturation setting that could help a bit).

I also like the original warcraft 3 art and i have kind of mixed feelings with this warcraft 3 reforged art.

point is, at least for me, i like the cartoony/tabletop feeling when playing  fantasy games (and even haven troops have just enough level of cartoonines in them - they really lost that in heroes 6 and look like a worse version of battle for middle earth strategies by ea games)

Could you share a link of the expanded project?

No link; was reffering to the maintenance of the re-texturing mod after the unfortunate disagreement between magnomagus and the retexturer :/

The latest expanded project I believe might be this one.
http://www.playground.ru/files/heroes_5_graphics_overhaul_2_0_mod_uluchshayuschij_grafiku-174449/

However there are a bunch of different versions out there. This is definately one of the latest versions though (believe latest).

PS: There are more mods at this site worth looking at.
