Bit surprised that RoE rates so highly––map landscapes are poor and with a couple possible exceptions, there is hardly any challenge in the scenarios.
My personal favorite set is AB, but I've never liked the fact that the main campaign was so easy. The lore in the timed events is entertaining and the story is compelling, but the player is given so many starting bonuses right off the bat, you can just stampede most of the scenarios. Maker of Sorrows is probably the only one that's a challenge. However, the rest of the campaigns are sufficiently challenging and the map landscapes are well-detailed. Dragon Slayer tests one's abilities with magic, Playing with Fire is pretty much the best-balanced campaign in the game, Festival of Life's "Clan War" scenario is very difficult...only Dragon's Blood is probably a little lackluster.
SoD fails on every enjoyable metric; the landscapes are OK, but the difficulty is so high that it's hard to have a versatile playing style. Beating the scenarios is more like an exercise in computation than anything else and requires a lot of micro-managing. For me, it takes away the enjoyment. The lore is still entertaining, however.
