H3 , sth like hota+HD mod, but with more options?

Hi

unfortunately HOTA did take the wrong direction for me, I'm a small "modder" myself anyway and like to have many options.
Some years ago I already tried WOG, but beside being overwhelmed by options, it was also quite bugged and most features did not work in multiplayer.

What kind of player I am:
I only play (simultanous) multiplayer with my friends and always together against the AI. So I'm not into competive multiplayer or sth like this, although we as allies should have same chances to succeed, but we only fight against AI. I'm not a fan of any RNG, like many creature abilities you find in WOG (which you can disable luckily).

So I'm looking for sth else than Hota. I like all the features of HD mod and also all non-balance-changing features of hota. But I also would like to add/change some things myself, which was possible with plugins loaded through HD-launcher, but unfortunately this was disabled for Hota.

What is currently the best to Hota, if I want no bugs and good working simultanously multiplayer (eg. with HD mod) ?

HotA is now tailored specifically for a tightly controlled and unchangable (by anyone except HotA) multiplayer tournament environment. Your best bet is VCMI, which is the best thing going for the future of HoMM3. They are remaking the entire game so it will be easily modifiable and could be user friendly and give you these features. There is a mod for it trying to port HotA but I think it is not up to date.

The mayor problem with vcmi is that it lacks sim turns and qol . That to me is the deal breaker. Lacking the rmg editor doesn't help

And second option is Era. You have WoG inside but you can disable you dont want. HotA is closed mod ,take and play'. For modders we have very good platforms. ERA and VCMI.

You can always stay with HotA 1.5 or older versions.

Simultaneous turns was never part of the game to begin with so it's really just an entirely new feature that HoMM3 has been fine without for over a decade of its existence, the true and real area for growth in VCMI at the moment is the AI. If it can't at least equal the intelligence/challenge level of HoMM3, you almost can't play the game. Tides of War looks fantastic though, they are really showing the power of having an openly moddable and optional configurations platform for changes on top of the game.

This, 100%.

ERA is great as much for the modder than the player. ERA is the new WoG, it has evolved A LOT compared to the old 3.58f, night and day. For a modder, VCMI allows for more but also needs more development -is less polished than ERA from a player's point of view but nevertheless extremely promising.

thanks for the replies.
so VCMI and ERA.

VCMI looks like much more work is needed and considering that it is already being worked on for ~10 years? it might take another 10 years

With Era you mean Era2 ? Is there an up to date beginner guide how to install what?
And how to tell which mod will work in multiplayer + HD Mod (simultanous turns). I liked the commander feature from WOG some years ago, but as far as I know it does not work in multiplayer =(
