New Campaign (Heroes Legends: Part I)
Good Evening Heroes III Community,
As indicated in my previous thread, I am working on a multi-part campaign for HoMM3 Complete that is intended to be an alternative to the Reckoning storyline. Players should view it as ultimately a replacement to Heroes Chronicles, involving many more characters from III Complete and giving Tarnum only a cameo role.
If this sounds appealing to you, Part I is now available in the link provided below.
To those who might have questions as to "why", I have a few justifications. For one, HC was not an altogether enjoyable game, in my opinion. The interesting dialogue aside, the maps were poorly made, the campaigns too easy, and I never enjoyed the fact that Enroth just gets blown up after the interesting build ups from Armageddon's Blade (although, I understand the appeal of the "corruptible hero" plot line). Second, I felt that certain characters were not given proper development; Dracon is a notable example, who seemed a natural foil to Mutare's invasion and yet, was never seen again. When I came across the Jennifer Bullard manuscripts, I was especially motivated to give Heroes players something different.
Part I of this story begins some time after the events of AB with Deyja and expands the storylines of a few select heroes, all of whom will be involved in future parts. The final three scenarios see the return of Gelu and his uniting with some friendly rangers as the plot with Deyja thickens. Naturally, the end of the campaign is a cliffhanger, but the events will resume immediately in Part II.
Deyja's big role in Part I is to serve as a plot device that ultimately changes the fate of Gelu and brings in all the other kingdoms of Antagarich. For those who find it a bit heavy with the undead, it will not stay that way in future parts, but Deyja's role will remain large until the final part. I will not spoil any endings I have in mind, but suffice it to say that Gelu and the fate of Enroth will be quite different in the end.
I hope players find Part I to be enjoyable. On a couple scenarios, you may find some map elements strange, but keep in mind that the Map Editor has its limitations and I could not introduce, for example, the multiple loss conditions that you see in, say, Shadow of Death.
I welcome commentary and especially bug reports. I have given it a thorough test play, so I hope there's nothing that's broken, but I'm sure there are a few typos here and there. Ultimately, the goal to have a complete Heroes Legends released by 2024, the 25th anniversary of this amazing game. Keep in mind, I tend to work in waves, so if you don't hear anything from me for months on end, it is all normal--I'll still be working diligently.
Enjoy!

Thank you!
Parmenides, I just wanted to say a massive thank you for your work!
This is without a doubt the type of user-created content that hits the sweet spot for me. It felt as though I was playing one of the original campaigns, with how immersive the lore was.
The narrative was brilliant, I loved how you kept switching perspectives between the protagonists and the antagonists, and as mentioned above I was very impressed with the lore aspect of it.
It was clear this was a labour of love, and I am very much looking forward to the next instalment (I hope you are still planning on releasing a follow-up campaign - this one was brilliant!).
A couple of bugs I encountered:
-in the scenario where I was supposed to start with the Cloak of the Undead King, while I had all the artifacts, I could not combine them (I tried un-equipping and equipping again, moving them to a different here, but to no avail), which made the scenario much tougher than intended (contrary to the other scenarios being much more leisurely in terms of difficulty)
-there was also one scenario where I was supposed to start with I believe Clavius, but instead I started with no hero; I think in the next scenario I did start with Clavius, but obviously just level 1, not having the chance to level him up on the previous map

That's very nice of you to say––keeping it as close as possible to the original campaign format was my priority. I'm pretty pleased so far with the plot and should have Part II available in December.
As for the bugs, I've verified similar ones, but fortunately, they are relatively easy to fix. I've corrected several already in Part I and will send that updated version alongside Part II. I'm a bit behind schedule, but am committed to sending more parts out all the way to the end of 2024. Thanks again for playing!
