after seeing all the Fortress arguments in the HotA thread, i made a change to my lineup. since i was never a fan of the armored cows(gorgons), i had replaced them with HotA's nixes, under the terms "alligatorman and alligator warrior". now, these replacements weren't really any different from the gorgons; they mainly were one-hex instead of 2, with a slight bump to stats.
but after the Fortress arguing and the general consensus that Fortress needed a boost, i swapped out HotA's nixes with VCMI(MDT) team's coatls, and gave them +1 to each of their speed. the upgrades still retain their death stare, and now that the town has 3 flying units with one of them with that special ability, +1 to both their speed, i think Fortress is a more formidable foe now.
any other upgrades or ideas that i could implement to strengthen weaker towns?

Idk the stats of the coatls but they’d have to be pretty strong if they’re replacing the gorgons. Pretty sure gorgons are the best tier 5, with maybe Minotaurs beating them.
Gorgons are also defense focused as opposed to the basilisk who’s got even stats with average hp. So you’d be removing their tankiest unit that can soak up retaliations. Hydras can’t since they got no retaliation on their attack. I don’t think gorgons would be the best unit to replace if you’re trying to swap a unit out. Not that I think fortress needs any major buffs anyway

they have the same stats/abilities, they're faster, and they fly now. what's the downside, again?

lol, ok, cool. what other weak ones need a little help? i was thinking Necropolis could use a little boost.. no reason. it's not like i'm biased or anything...

My heart says tower (and that's how I voted). Tower may have one of the strongest armies and good special buildings, but if I had to be more reasonable, I would choose:
1) Dungeon - for it's independence, good army strength, excelent heroes and special buildings
2) Castle - cheap to build, easy to play and those mighty archangels
3) Necropolis - vampire lords (second to none on 4 level) and dread knights (only nagas con compete with them (maybe efreeti sultans and magic elemenals stand a chance), great death knights class and op necromancy (especially in SoD).

I would not say the best unit of the entire town and one of the best in the game is the one that needed a boost precisely...

That in my humble opinion, making Mighty Gorgons flying while keeping all their stats is not the best way to buff fortress. Of course since this is a private mod (I think?) I do not mind at all. But I would rather buff a weak and underused unit than a strong one. You can see the power of the gorgons even in autocombat, though I'm sure most are already aware of it...
Lizard Warriors and Gnolls strike me more as units that need buffs (and or replacing their models for other units along that) as they have no abilities. Possibly I would give lizard warrior ranged attack a chance to Poison. Speakingof which, does anyone actually like gnolls? 
Though on the othe hand I do agree that "Bull that sneezes" is not the most appealing model :V

Yeah okay, Migthy Gorgons is already a very powerful unit, I'd rather buff Wyvern Monarchs (very fragile) or gnolls. Or maybe give gnolls and lizardmen a minor ability, like you said. Regeneration would also fit hydras very well.
I have always thought gnolls could have some kinda stun ability with that flail. 20% chance to make an enemy lose it's current turn and the next.
Lizardmen could have some special arrows, Wyvern Monarchs already have poison, so I don't think it should be poison.

There is a lot to take into account to determine the best town. The size of the map,ressources available , type of terrain. Being in a team also changes the way i chose my town. If i have a partner thats playing fortress , i can play tower and ask my team mate to send me rare ressources (especially gems) to finance my titans and mage guilds , tower can on its side provide fortress with the much needed spells with scholar wizards teaching spells they learned... i wonder which 2 towns have the best synergy?
