I got your point but I think it's not worth when look from the marketing perspective, nothing to do with censor or ideology. Can you go butt or boobs naked in public? No, because our societies have dress codes. Societies as Islamic theocracies or communist China have those dress codes even more enforced, and that means such games could not sell at all in that area.
So, leave all "creative" ideas which tease with our codes to the modding world then deliver a generic non controversial vanilla, that's optimal marketing.
I am not at all against nudity in games, in Skyrim heroes get naked many times (when killed then robbed, when you enchant your clothes and they go to backpack) so applying some nudity enhanced mod to have fun, why not - I downloaded the "petite, big bongos and trimmed muff version". 
Games are not only for straight-normal-males-testosteronpoking, but also for kids, females and elders, keep it decent then leave to each one the option to enhance his own version with anything he likes, by making the game moddable.

You can have censorship as a marketing strategy also. The word has a bad reputation, so people dont like to call it that but if you censor butts because of a dress code, it is still censorship. In prime time tv, if they show a movie, they can censor nipples or ass. That’s also because of the dress code. (Which btw, is also part of an ideology in the broadest sense of the word, since all social norms are attached to an ideology one way or the other.) I guess, what you’re trying to say is, it is not because of some marginal ideology but about catering to the mainstream one.

For me censorship starts when it applies its own subjective values, regardless the laws in place. If the law prohibits having sex with babies, the state prohibiting all pedo sites is not censorship, but enforcing the laws, which are there for a reason.

Putting aside the fact that the replaced graphics are not illegal level nudity where they are produced, I think, it is your definition which is subjective.
Whether you agree with the reasons or not, ALL censorship is there for a reason. Anybody who censors something, by law, by board decision, by themselves (auto-censor), have their justification for it. I’m not saying it is always wrong, in your example of pedophile sites, we all agree with the censorship for instance. But it’s not like governments base their laws on some objective, timeless standard beyond social norms. That’s why what is being censored changes from time to time and place to place and if enough people agree, it is actually silly to apply censorship to X subject, laws change. There was a time, blood or kissing was censored in TV.

Argument that laws and codes change with time is irrelevant, my comment specified "laws in place".
Nudity is somehow regulated by laws. Choosing to not push provocative nudity in a video game can hardly be called censorship. Also, as I said, if you want to sell your product you try to match every culture with its own codes out there.
We have much bigger problems regarding censorship on our hands atm,to stick to superfluous issues as this one.

As I already said, I agree it’s superficial and I wouldnt even notice it probably. But people here seem to think censorship is called only censorship if it is some grand government ban or it is something they oppose to. No. If you take a game and exclude part of original content because of some code of conduct, it falls under the category of censorship. Whether it is justified, marketing strategy, unnecassary etc, doesnt matter.

The whole butt thing is meme worthy and I don't understand why people take it seriously.
For me it's more of a "well of course Blizzard will *enchance* the game to meet 2020s standards" case. The "here we go again" kind...

On a side note you probably don't follow it nor you don't have a reason to but it's something Blizzard has been doing for a while now. They've also changed a few cards art later on.

Oh, looks worse than I expected. Who made that design??!!! I feel like companies producing such pieces for the fans, lost their spirit and any respect for the community. It's already all about money...this is how such hideous pieces come into the market. And also, when I go through the shelves with toys for kids, all those characters look to awful, and too too much sexuality. I mean, it's a toy! It's supposed to be a part of someone's collection. They even don't give a thing about their operational processes. Why to build a normal delivery when you can pull your product via marketplaces who don't even care about customer experience. I think the censorship is dumb, games like Diablo were absurd over the top, it's part of their charm. What's next, Quake without women that fire missiles from their tits?
It was done that way on purpose not due to lack of social conscience, the purpose was it was "hardcore" even "Offensive".
Now companies have no soul.
But anyways this will just mean modders will make even worse more over the top sexualized designs, so really there is no win here except by virtue signaling.
At least I can only hope the sprites can be extracted so we get them for H4 creatures and heroes :V since the old diablo sprites tend to be too low res. Actually this is the only thing I hope from this remake: High res sprites.
PS: Nevermind they don't even make new sprites. This is worthless, should have figured (but Starcraft remastered did... so a step back)
