Poll Question:
Best (and worst) expansion bonus level 4 of all factions?

So, just for fun, I am asking for the level 4 creatures from expansions that don't appear in towns as a recruitable units.

There are 7 creatures from HOMM4 expansions. Six of them are max level - one for each faction. Coincidence? I don't think so

While Megadragons are tougher than the rest, you need to remember in the campaign you only get 1 megadragon per 2 weeks - while the others get 2 (gnasher 3) per 1 week, so 4/6 times more.

The creatures and their factions are:

- Catapult (Life)
- Evil Sorceress (Order)
- Gargantuan (Nature)
- Dark Champion (Death)
- Megadragon (Chaos)
- Frenzied Gnasher (Might)

My vote personally goes to the Gargantuan (Nature). It can destroy whole armies by its rock barrage before they even have the chance to get close. And if they eventually do (extremely weakened, most likely), the Gargantuan can still reasonably defend itself (unlike the Catapult).

Now honorable mentions:
* The Sorceress (Order) is a very powerful caster and its mass slow is extremely valuable for an army. However, on themselves they lack punch without spells, and have very low HP. Spells from enemies can also kill them despite magic mirror. Gargantuans don't have such weakness of being brittle and fragile.

* Dark Champion (Death) is extremely durable and they have the gift of double nightmares. However, when stacked their regeneration ceases to matter as much, as well as they have the same nightmare effect be it 1 or 1000. In all, Dark Champions are more terrifying at first and as neutrals where you will have to face several stacks of the same, but are lacking in very late game.

* Catapult is a weaker Gargantuan that is slower and bad in melee, unless you are fighting against a fortress. In that case Catapult may be the key to victory, but this is too niche. The greater AoE does not compensate enough for Gargantuan firing twice.

* Megadragon is of course, individually speaking, the strongest creature in the entire game. However, it is very unwieldy to use since its attack can also damage yourself significantly. Megadragon can also be weakened and stopped by something like castle gate, swamped terrain, curses and the like (since it has only 50% magic resistance, and can't fly). Goes well with Spazz memes, tho. On the flip side, Megadragon can be blessed and teleported by you, so it should still not be underestimated. It loses points because there is no dwelling for Megadragon, unlike the 5 others, and as such can only be used on campaign in the base game.

The weakest creature for me, of these, is the Frenzied Gnasher (Might). Melee beaters with berserker are shunned by strategic players and for good reason. I guess they do have higher numbers going for them, but never rely on superior numbers. Unless you are Necropolis. Then always rely on superior numbers - There is an actually good Might neutral lvl4 creature tho, and it is the Sea Monster, due to it's Devour ability is can be the ultimate anti lvl-4/anti high-level hero.

What are your opinions? (the poll vote is for best)

I wrote already that all GS and WoW neutral creatures are garbage. Those are only deterrent. Ok you asked the best. You can find info: killing XP says

1. Megadragon
2. DC
3.-5. Gargantuan, FG, Catapult
6. ES

Then I can explain a little, why?

Megadragon due to lack of Tactics. Black Dragon is also strong, but Asylum hasn't Tactics. You must buy a Death Knights. Megadragon needs only petmaster, you know Spazz, when neutral megadragons are a very stupid.

DC has weaker damage and HP, when Death Necropolis style. Because maximum damage or greater HP by Haven and Preserve. Only 40 melee and 40 defense due to Death Knight.

Gargantuan, you can think easily. But Preserve hasn't Tactics, so the same Megadragon. Gargantuan is a slow, when Wasport, etc archer attackers are always slow. But hero cast mass speed with Knight or Warden, if luck.

FG has 40 melee and 40 defense and 300hp, but slow, bersberk and low damage. Only immune to magic due to Stronghold culture. No Tactics or spell did created strong being.

Catapult has weaker melee, when Haven has all weaker melee, but Death or Chaos do evil alliance to Haven. When Knight must to get life skill, HoMM offers death skill. But H3 HoMM offered fire skill. So memory them. Those are OP to only Haven.

ES, when Academy hasn't melee, HP, etc Only magician troops also lack of Tactics. So ES changed extra stronger. But Chaos or Nature do magician alliance to Academy. And they chose Chaos.

But what I play them?

1.-2. ES and Gargantuan.
3.-5. FG, Catapult, DC
6. Megadragon

Why? Short thing, I don't wanted bersberk Megadragon. And no dwelling.

Of course in payed addons always we have overpowered creatures to maximalise incom.
Gnasher is worst.
Champion rather weakest. Its boosted troll.
Ballista too. Its boosted catapult mixed with cyclope.
Sorceress has powerfull spells. Its like magi genie and beholder type of units.
Garagntuan has very hard two shoots. Its boosted cyclope.
And megadragon is of course overpowered. But foot moving dragon is original.
...
A lot of these are old units with giga stats. As you know all 'expansions' are only cash grabbing accidents.
For me better than 11 new heroes wolud be 11 new units. Because these 'new' heroes has the same tree of skills and in fact only look is new. 85 units with new abilities recrutable in cities! 14 per city! Thats great idea. It can be done without dwelings. Like in portal of summoning. But its past. Now we can only mod and repair.

Seems nobody voted non-Gargantuan. I was thinking many people would vote Megadragon just because, Megadragon

Hmmm. Good idea about the Frenzied Gnashers, it does boost them and goes with their "I am a frenzied ball of muscle" thing.

"Unlimited Retaliation"

As of now these are the other changed abilities.

Sorceress becomes less useless in melee, now it can strike and return poisoning. May be sometimes convenient instead of Implosion.

"Evil Sorceress": [
       "Teleport",

Megadragon becomes even more powerful with Devouring, and is immune to fear (what can a creature like that fear?) but is harder to control.

       "Arc Breath Attack",
"Berserker",
"Devouring",

Ability-wise, there was nothing that could be done for the Catapult, since it has already 4 indispensable abilities and adding a 5 would crash recruit GUI. You can't make a non-ranged or non-mechanical catapult without completely changing the essence of the unit. However, its stats got adjusted slightly.

   "Catapult": [
       "Ranged",
       "Mechanical",
       "Siege Capable",
       "Greek Fire"

Dark Champion has its abilities completely overhauled (it's not Undead since it doesn't seem to be), it's graphics will be altered.

Now its abilities don't depend so much on low numbers. It can still cast Nightmares but only once until the Mana Leech recharges its MP. It can also charge and bind opponents, and is specialist vs Life (since life has a lot of anti-undead and anti-death stuff).

       "Mana Leech",
       "Binding",
       "Life Ward"

Last but not least, Gargantuan got nerfed but not too much. Instead of the overkill of shooting two rocks, their rocks now have the ability to area stun oponents. Probability of stun depends on proportional damage to the stack.

Quote:

   "Gargantuan": [
       "Ranged",
       "Ranged Stun",
       "Area Attack",
       "Normal Melee"

Dark Champions

I would've picked Goblin Knights, they are a tough nut to crack.

But since we are only picking the lvl 4s, I'd go with Dark Champions.

Not because of the Regen or even the Terror, but because I love the Charge and the Undead bonus is pretty nice.

When you have tactics, as they have a huge movement, they can run circles over their opponents and deal a ridiculous amount of damage.

Also I have a soft spot for the Dread Knights from H-III as well, so the Dark Champions are my closest choice.
