Looking for New Art Assets for Hota Mapmaker

Hi guys. In recreating Warcraft 3 maps, I've come across some assets not in the Hota Mapmaker file that can safely be used in the game. For example from another map I got several "fire" assets that fit in nicely and are just differently shaped fires.

Anyone know of a list of these alternative assets and where to download them? So far the few I've come across were just interesting assets in other downloaded maps.

I think you are referring to the objects that are mentioned here: http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=39913&pagenumber=11

Those are objects that HotA added and later removed again so you can't find them in the map editor but in some maps you can, so you can copy them from there (similar to the "Market of Time" in "Titan's Winter" and the alternative "Gnoll Hut" in "Galea's Champions"). In addition to the objects that are mentioned in the thread above, I think I remember that there also is a golden sphere that is stuck in the ground but I am not 100% sure and I don't remember the (HotA-)map I saw it in.

Is the alternative Gnoll Hut functional or just decoration? (I am not home to test it, right now.)

I would'nt call the sphere golden, it's more like a round stone stuck in the ground.

The Market of Time doesn't function, but the gnoll hut from Gelea's Champion does. I haven't come across the golden sphere yet

Excellent, I'll put it in my map then.

I'll try to find the sphere, when I have time, I can't remember where I got it from.

Ah okay, thanks for the clarification. It really is a long time since I saw that sphere so my memory fails me a bit about the details.

Concerning the Gnoll Hut: Like Centurios said, it works just as a normal Gnoll Hut. The only thing that's unusual about it (besides the look obviously, which is very similar to the Seer's Hut that looks like a tree) is that there is no little flag that shows the colour of its owner. But you can still see the respective colour of the square on the minimap and you can also find out about the owner by right-clicking, obviously.

Edit: Speaking about map objects that aren't accessible through the map editor, do you know a way to get to use the "Altar of the Horn of the Abyss" (I don't know its name but that's what I would call it), that can be seen at the very end of the fifth scenario ("In Search of the Horn") of the "Terror of the Seas" campaign? Cheers!

I'd like to know too. Also, I came across a "toad" model in Scorched Earth, similar to the pig and chicken models lol

The HotA kraken pedestal thingy is avchrnal.def, just place it in your EdObjts.txt file in a form like this (for example):

avchrnal.def 100111110000111111111111111111111111111111111111 010000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 111111111111 000000000001 5 161 1 0

to have it as a pick-up-able "Horn of the Abyss". It seems a lot of people do not know how the map editor works with the game files and how easy it is to customize objects in your editor, I swear I'll get to writing a github readme about it sometime soon

@Centurion - Those frogs should be found in the swamp section in the normal editor file, no?

Oh man, I wish I knew how to do what you wrote there. I can't even locate my EdObjts.txt file lol. A readme would be awesome if you get some time to write it haha

Oh yeah my bad the frogs are in the swamp section

Okay, here is everything I have found so far:

* 3 different types of waterfalls
* 4 different types of fires
* 8 different types of red trees
* Different types of stones and rocks (Not sure how many.)
* Stony sphere (This is actually a water object and can not be placed on land.)
* Market of Time (Can be visited, but sadly does nothing.)
* Chicken
* Rooster
* Pig
* Ruined subterranean gate
* Old version of HotA's Genie Lamp (Can be visited, but does nothing.)

Besides the alternative Gnoll Hut, did you guys know there are 3-hex alternative dwellings for Unicorn Glade, Altar of Air, Earth, Fire and Water, Nix Fort and Maelstrom...

As mentioned many times elsewhere, these objects were removed from the map editor by the hota team because of their low quality. You may find them placed in some maps, and they still exist in the installer for hota, but there is zero guarantee that they will always be included, and when the team decides to not include them, any map still using them will not be able to be played with the normal installation of hota. The fires and waterfalls are just really low quality rips from h4, same as the animal defs which I think should be removed asap as well.

In addition to the market of time, unused defs from the original game are the previously mentioned gnoll hut (that probably developed into a seer's hut), a smaller version of a windmill and a small version of the school of magic. These three defs can be used as any object the map maker wants without trouble, since they're included in the base game lods.

This is one of the funniest things I've ever heard . These objects were never "hidden" at all and were always available in the editor.

I never said they were hidden, I just asked if people knew that they existed, since they will not normally be generated on a map.

I don't think any object should be "removed" since that will just make maps unplayable with zero benefits (except maybe a few KB)

Also there is no indication HotA team will "remove" anything since they haven't before and there is no indication they ever will

If you don't like maps which use these objects, don't play them. It's that simple-

And 3-hex variations of elemental dwellings already existed in normal Shadow of Death...

Simply, there was the four elemental dwellings from base H3 Retoration of Erathia, then others got added for Conflux (the 2-hex ones).
