Not sure how the ranking was done back in the day, but currently you start with certain ranking value (points), and the value increases/decreases depend how good of rank your opponent has when you win/lose against him. So, pretty basic stuff. There's obviously now way to prevent players from closing their games, but you can report the players, and they can get a leaver status visible to other players.

Not sure if I can catch exactly what you mean with the first sentence. There isn't very easy way of analyzing how popular different versions are, but I personally see Reddit the most neutral places for such polls thou. The site isn't centered around certain way of playing Homm3, it isn't a place for certain language only, or isn't a "home" for any mod or such, unlike ours for example. Obviously I agree that there are a lot of people who are actively playing the game, and haven't heard about Hota, but I'm not sure if the portion of players is less or more, at least if we're talking about English/Polish/Russian speaking people.
Anyway, it's a poll at some corner in the Internet, it shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I'm back on HC from cottage. Ok you choose right. HotA AI casts berserk and a little improvement something also beautiful objects and creatures. Nerfed and buffed skills like Mysticism is now good. Then goes to nice WoG/ERA.
But Single player, I recommend WoG/ERA. In there you find World Championship script where are Green Dragons gain over 1000HP, still more damage too, if you want to challenge and practice becomes better player or you play with more strong AI, in there HUMAN AI MOD, for example, etc then easier HotA.

I have great news, you no longer need multiple sites or places to be, all are build in the lobby. I suggest downloading Hota and the HD mod and checking the multiplayer tab, it will basically answer all the questions by itself.

TYhere is nothing inbuilt in the way of forums like this, just lists for hota players to endogamically wank over who is above who in the meaningless list :v ; )
