I completely disagree here, the faction should be balanced.
I can imagine them being relatively strong in combat, though, but weak on the Adventure Map...
Nah. Make them uber strong like Forge was supposed to be, but balance that by making them seriously expensive in resources and gold.

Since the devs give a really big emphasis on multiplayer I don't think we will see asymmetric style balancing like there was in H-II. As much as I love that feature I must be realistic, most people would dislike this and PVP would suffer.

I would love to see Forge appear in some capacity, even if it's dialed back a lot for the scifi elements to be more subtle. I know that timeline wise that could be kind of difficult but who knows what they'll come up with. I agree with the idea that Hive should be a "throw a million weak creatures at the enemy until they overwhelm them" faction though. It just makes sense since that's literally how insects survive as a group in real life.

If "before H2" is taken to enough of an extreme that it's only a century or less after the Silence, a 'flipped' Forge could work in the form of the remnants of the Colonial Government - still a high-tech faction fuelled by Heavenly Forges with ambitions of world dominance, but working from crumbling infrastructure and stockpiles from better days instead of Kastore's crude Deyjan uplifting using a single repaired Forge.

Asymmetric balance was not very fun in HII. I'd prefer not to see it return, personally. I think HIII/HV already do a good job of variations in creature power without full asymmetry like in HII.

I enjoy the asymmetric balance oh H1&H2, but I do think its best for the series not to bring it back to that extreme. H3 and H4 had really good faction diversity, imho.
My thoughts on what we know so far..
Temple: This game's castle faction. They're never my favorite, but never my least favorite either. The angel archer unit is very intriguing as that may just solidify them as the strongest ranged faction. They might be a bit of a mix between tower and castle, but too hard to tell at this moment.
Necropolis: Usually my least favorite faction, and I don't see that changing here. Death knight looks really cool, but nothing else pops out at me. Undead just bore me
Dungeon: Solid line up, but the H2 fan in me would have liked to see a warlock style this time around. Weird to see only one flier, maybe two if trogs burrow again but I kinda doubt it because they have spears. I like the creature design for the most part. Hoping they tone down the purple on the "black dragon"
Sylvan: This kind of town is usually my favorite, and I see it happening yet again...as long as they don't go too heavy with Faey units, hopefully no more than 3. Seems like a solid chance for the phoenix to return as the tier 7, given its appearance in the trailer flying over the Sylvan forces. They seem to have this mountain behemoth-like creature too and it looks awesome. Fairy dragon could possibly be there. This one I'm most excited for.
Hive: No real expectations for this faction. We haven't seen much of these, but I do like what we have seen. They appear to have heavy hitter melee units with some cool designs. I wonder if we'll see some kind of larva bug that farm demons in a similar way to Pit lords in H3.
Ice Town: Don't really have any expectations for this one either, but we've seen a bit more of it. I'm less convinced with this one. Most of the designs are not very interesting to me. I hope we haven't seen the tier 7 yet, but I think the Baron looking creature is at least T5 or T6. Maybe they'll grow on me.
Overall I'm satisfied with what I've seen. I'm interested in what the faction abilities are and if we have any creature choices in the line ups. It seems hard to believe that we'd get creature choices for some tiers, AND alt upgrades for each creature. But at the same time, it seems like there are more than 7 creatures aligned to some factions. Will have to wait and see.

The sea/ocean themed town might be inspired by fomorians, giant supernatural creatures from irish/celtic mythology who were said to come fron the dephts of the ocean.
With the stars above, the town certainly has that cosmic horror vibe to it, even if its beatiful
