oh yeah, magic

I started playing in 1994 and stopped playing a few years ago when Mercadian Masques came out.

Well, I didn't just say "Ok, I'm done" but some of the people I played with moved away and I don't buy cards anymore. However, I do still play when I find somebody who wants to play a game, but I am looking to sell many of my cards in the near future. I have lots of old, rare, and hard to get cards. That sorta makes the decision a bit difficult, because I know that, for exampie, if I sell my Library of Alexandria or all 40 of my Revised edition dual lands, I know I'll never have them again.

I'm not going to sell all of my cards though. I'm going to keep some of my favorite decks from over the years and hang onto them in case somebody wants a game.

I have all of my good deck lists still written down in a notebook at home. I played in many tournaments and won a good percentage of them. I actually scared off some people because I was so damn good at the game. I eventually started using decks that were intentionally weak to make the game more fun for everyone. (fun for them because they have a chance, fun for me because it's challenging to win with a crippled deck)

My friends have started playing Star Wars, because Magic has become less interesting. I guess they need a break from the game. I personally want to find some more people that play Magic. The people that I play with seem to know tons of people who play Magic, but I know very few.

I'm not ready to stop playing Magic, but Star Wars looked very interesting. I think I might start playing that game. Looks really fun. Maybe I could trade cards with both games at the same time.

For those of you who have played Star Wars. I already have my ideas on how I'll build my first deck. Here it goes.

Since you have to have at least 12 of each arena.(That's what it's called right??) Anyway I thought that since space goes first and their are ships that bombard ground. I would make a bombardment deck. It would consist of 12 of the cheapest characters I could find, then the rest of the cards would be 15-20 cheap, fast space units. (Critical hit ones if possible) Some surges of power to go along with the critical hits. Then I would have the most powerful bombarders I could find, doesn't matter if they are slow as long as they are cheap. The rest would be fast, cheap ground guys.

With the enormous amount of space units it would be nearly impossible to lose space. I'm giving up the character arena. Then I will have a bunch of ground units too, but I will be able to bombard the crap out of them before they have any chance to attack. Then with my fast ground units I will be able to deal them more damage. If this works correctly, then I should be able to win in 2 or 3 turns just about every time, not because of good cards, but because I'll have space won by turn one then I will have 2 arenas attacking ground. 1/2 definately before and 1/2 probably before.

oh balance...it's actually more usueful in type1 then in type2 tho(when it was allowed)..man just imagine first turn lotus, mox, dual land, zuran orb, dark ritual, juzam, and a balance...man what a killer...

it' a good card but it's seen more in combo decks that as an individual...

and thunder...i could've beat my opponent in two turns too if Hated is green...god that card is just Brooooooooken...

and stop it RFF3...this is a magic thread,,,not star wars...

My opinion...

At first The game of MTG is extremely random as you don't have enough cards.

After some time you can make good decks and but still the way you play them and how you incluence other players affect the game.

In the end MTG comes predictable game where everyone has killer deck and are just waiting for their chance to win the game.

It begins with luck and ends to the luck.

Then you try different rules by saying that certain cards aren't allowed. That doesn't work...
One of the best experiences was to put lot of cards from different players together and then "auction" them for the next game. So everybody would get some good cards and then make decks out of them. What was fun about it that basically everybody had deck where there more colours than just one or two. There were many times even four colours and the extermination of lands became vital. Too bad the group broke-up as some moved to live in the other towns. I think it was good as the game could ever get.

I think problem with MTG (at least for me) is that it's card-TRADING-game. It's not about really strategy in the game but strategy off the game. I don't like that really. One who most money and most dedication to the game wins. Those who don't want to get new cards will lose...

I still remember playing one game with green-red (lot's of creatures, lot's of destruction) and I was suffering from flying attack. Somehow my pokerface did it and my friend choosed to attack other player and not me. In the next round I started bringing in the goods. Geez...

What I would like to have is cardgame what has more "basic" cards like normal warriors and such. And the game would be more about the strategy during the game. And the game would come bigger and bigger with more cards you have. It would be nice if you could control something like thirty cards in one turn fighting against opponent. That would be real war gaming instead of couple of creaturecards taking damage. Of course there could be more "rare" cards but they wouldn't ever decide the game. Of course there are some boardgames like that but they seem to be based into "cool!" figures fighting each other and not to real strategy.

I think there would be order in market for more games but many are just normal trading card games without real idea. Just games for todays kids.

SubZero, that's why Type 2 cycles. Almost nothing is predictable when new card sets cycle in. And, of course, playing with and against only few players is nothing compared playing against tens or hundreds of players.
That online magic can be a huge success if they price "boosters" correctly.

And that there is no strategy IN the game is a false statement. For example you are playing Blue Control Deck against a Red Slight and have in your hand Counterspell, Manticore, two Islands and Capsize while you have only four islands in play and are at 11 life. Opponent have three mountains, Mogg Fanatic and Mogg Conscript in a play while there is 2 cards in his hand. All his lands are tapped. You have already played an Island this turn. What will you cast?

And if that is not strategy for you, I can bring some more and problematic scenarios. Or do we need a yet another game of Apprentice?

A fun way to play with people who don't have alot of cards, or with new people is to play commons.  When I was buying cards I ended up with lots of excess common cards, stacks of them, so we separated all the different colors and randomly drew for color.  Then you have 30 min. to make up a deck from your common cards and then play.

This is alot of fun, gets people to design decks and learn how to play without any monetary investment.  And advanced strategies which depend on rarer cards don't ruin the game for the less skilled player.

Ya that reminds me of people saying, I would have won if I didn't have such a bad hand. That would be called bad luck. Well since bad luck is poor preparation for bad luck, you should design the deck so it's harder to get bad hands. This goes back to the whole balancing thing when building decks.

Has anyone managed to find the weakness of the Phantom decks that were introduced with the Judgment expansion? Direct damage and enchantment/artifact damage seem to be the key, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
