Only 6 levels of creatures!

Looking through the ost recent info about Homm4, it appears that there are going to be only 6 levels of creatures (of which upgrades may/may not exist for some/all of them)...  and with only 6 towns, it seems we are going to be getting a lot less than homm3.  It even says that they're are going to be over 60 creatures...  but AB/SoD had over 130! (including upgrades, but still over 70 w/o upgrades).  Personally I find this a Huge dissapointment.

So what does everyone else think about it?

i agree fully

i also dont like the idea of having only 6 towns and only 6 creature levels, but their not done yet so they can still make some more, i mean, all they have to do is improve creatures from homm3 and make them suitable for homm4, the thinking is all done, just fixing is left, right

It's not quantity, it's quality

Didn't your mother ever tell you this? I would rather play with 6 towns that are really unique than with 15 towns that do the SAME DAMN THING!!!

Just a thought...

A Split....

I agree with all of you.
For one, it would be nice to have some of the same creatures/levels/towns as with HoMM 3. Without some of those classic elements, HoMM 4 may be an intire different game.
On the other hand, some difference is good. Maybe there is a new system for HoMM 4 were only 6 levels of creatures would be good enough, and 7 levels woudl overdue it.
A little of both would be the best, I believe.

Homm2

People I think u are missing the point here. Remeber Homm2? 6 levels and 6 towns? Remeber what kind of a bestseller it was? Well? The only reason Homm3 became so popular was because of returning players from Homm2! I think ^ towns and 6 levels is good enough.

*******!!!

This is exactly what happens when new technology and a modern marketing comes into the picture. Armageddons blade was no real extravagant new, maybe ten new units and some new artifacts, all those add-ons where you played that Barbarian Taurnum was even worse and we were all waiting for a new Heroes III like game where thereīd be new looks for old units and add-ons for new ones. Maybe ten races this time with 8 units and oh, new spells! What happens, six units, six towns but ooooh! They looks so good with our new graphic engine! I donīt care about no frigginī graphics itīs the gameīs playability and the belif that it will last longer than a month. What 3do has acompliched is merely a big brother of Heroes II with better graphics. Perhaps there are two capaigns two where you fight two it out between to brother Erchbald and Reland in the land of Anroth.

And no one has to tell me that there wasnīt any difference between towns in HOMM3! The idiot who would even think such a thought needs to play more than one race for a least two hours. THEN letīs see if you think all the towns look alike!

Heroes III was one of the best game ever. What went wrong? Didnīt they have enough ideas for units? Iīve read so many just here that my eyes hurt.

Instead of leasing a good looking game which turns out to be inferior to Homm3 with less units and so on, they could maybe give it a few extra months, add more creatures, spells and so on a keep their title as the best game producer ever. But of course there is the marketing schedule and we canīt dismiss the marketing schedule now can we 3do?!

Hey LoveDoc...

Where in the hell do you get the idea that the graphics are one of the keysellings of this game. HELLO!! It's classic Heroes! The graphics aren't going to be frickin phnomenal. But don't you think that when you play each level creature are basically even? Yeah sure the game does have to be fair but whats the point of having 10 new towns with evenly made units. I think that 6 towns that allow you to make your creatures special is better than 10 evenly made towns. (I know your arguements are that the town are different, but when looking deeper a 7th lvl creature is pretty much even to all other 7th lvl creatures! Wouldn't you like it better if you could upgrade your 7th lvl units so they have some new skills that can tilt the battle in your favor. This gives you something to shoot for...

Just a thought, not an insult!

Why is the arguement Quality vs. Quantity?  We have a huge resource of RPG and fantasy literature to draw from, not to mention the imagination of homm fans.  If we were going to put everything in, we'd have thousands upon thousands of creature...  not to mention towns.  I'm upset that they're scaling back when there is no need to!  I expected that homm4 would have atleast the quantity AND quality of homm3 and then some.  It is amazing to think that in order to maintain the quality of previous homm games that they'd have to reduce the number of creatures and towns...  this is suppose to be the next "generation" of homm, I don't think it unreasonable to expect thet it be improved over homm3.  I agree that the most likely explanation is that they scaled back on artwork to save money and to get the game out faster.  I hope I'm wrong, I'll buy the game regardless...  but if it is a step back like I'm worried about, I'll think twice before I buy future homm's or expansions.

Why less towns ??

Hi, all,

I'm also not very happy to know that there MAY only be only 6 towns and 6 levels of creatures in h4. But maybe we can think it from the other way round:

Why only 6 towns ?
Maybe 3do wants every town having its specific magic type. And now they can only think about 5 magic schools (stronghold has no magic)
If you want more towns, maybe you should think of some more magic schools and spells...... or maybe just having 2 towns with one magic school......... or maybe having combinations e.g. one town with chao + death, one with nature + life, one with....etc etc.

Why only 6 levels of creatures ? why less creatures ?
Maybe it is to give diversity to town development and so level 7 creature depends on your building path. Maybe there will be more neutral creatures since it will more difficult to balance the towns for more creatures. And so 3do just takes the lazy way: put them as neutral creatures.

The above are just my guess coz I got NO connection with 3do at all.
If guys in 3do want to correct my bulls**t, please do it and tell us more on h4. (That's my true intention of this post !)

maybe its just a question of balance

I really dont care that much that there are less (or that there might have been more) towns in HMM4.

My hope for the reason of less towns is so that the game is well balanced.  maybe they can balance the game better with all the new changes more evenly with only 6 towns, considering all the new (really about everything) It does stand to reason that it would be difficult to balance playability and grow the game from HMM3 sod. so a well balanced "new" game would be much more preferable to a "new" game with a lot of new towns and more creatures (but you knew one castle was much more powerful than the others)
