I'd Just like to say...

That H4 Online ROCKS!! bottom line..

You who can say there is no tactics, no gameplay ect ect .. haha

This game originally is not what h3 was originally.. but after you go on your exploring/learning process and see the multitide of possibilities any player that plays h3 for the strategic aspect will Love h4 guranteed.

After saying this, you need to give H4 a good 30 hours or so before it becomes GREAT! And anyone that has not tried H4 with the newest patchs cannot comment on its worth.

Anyways.. H3 is a spectacular game that I will still play and love.. but H4 is the next wave.. and its popularity can only grow.  The only issue I have at present with H4 is a lack of maps and randoms.  And sometimes I don't hear the turn ding.. and it doesn't pop me back in game like H3 did.

But seriously to all you hard nosed veterans  H4 is a great game! Its just a different game.. once you get passed that you'll love it especially with a real opponent!

My reluctance to play H4 has nothing to with the time involved or learning a new game.

It's because there is no random generator, and from what I'm told there prolly will not be one at all.

Therefore in 6 months everyone will be playing and replaying the same maps over and over again.

If 3doh announced that generator would be included in future expansion packs, then I would give H4 a go.

If not for randoms in H3 I would have lost interest some time ago.

hi all!

im glad that homm4 finally brings Glory days for you all! im sad that i cannot move along
on other hand.. nahh.. homm4 isnt that great of game in my eyes! and i dont think multiplayer would change that for me. rather prefer chess.. or even better homm3

Well i miss the old days

everyone is spread into different games and we all divided into small groups.

dunno why i write this! but instead of bashing homm4 for how i see it.. i prefer to wish "friends" good luck with the homm4 game of TOH.

Regards Just me!

and btw.. smile

Isnt this exactly what all the pro-H4 people were saying would happen before the patch came out?

Everyone was whining, but the pro-Homm4 crowd said this exact thing would happen, and it has.

Moral of the story - be patient.

@ Destro

I agree the game is becoming more and more appealing the more I play it WITH MULTI.  Single player Heroes 4 is Worthless piece of trash but with Multi it is a whole new game.

BUT 2 problems I can forsee.  One of them Splexx touched on.  Is it wont be long that we as players will fall into the same rut of memorizing and over playing same maps over and over. When it gets to that point if there is no random map generator I will prolly lose interest real fast.

2nd, once we all get comfortable with the game, it looks like it would be very likely that a set pattern of skills and hero classes will be found to be the optimal and every game will be exact same.  So after a while both players will have idental heroes skills classes etc, and there will be nothing differnet in game except who can be the fastest again.   Maybe I am wrong.  I am far from understanding this game.  Just a prediction.

Hope I am wrong though.

Jinxer...

This is exactly what i foresee... The game will be streamlined so that you just play the heroes into same skill over and over.

This game isnt like a box of chocolate because you know what you gonna get.

I found it boring that you have no control in choosing the pattern of skills for your hero.. The way you train scouts..
and they way you build up town.
I like having 8 heroes that everyone is part of "team".

well, luckyli, we all differents, and all have different taste...

For the 2 things that jinxer mentioned

1) People will always play their favorite maps, however if enough maps are around, maybe more of a selection will be available.

2) and for building up heroes..how many of you had your favorite 8 skills in h3? well u went for them most the time, so in a sense your heroes were very similar. same thing for h4, however, to diversify skills I think events like witch huts (cant remember what they called in h4) can easily change your build up route.

Well maybe we could have seperate rankings for the favorite maps.  i.e.

Desert War Rankings
Hourglass Rankings

lol that way it would reflect accurately

Agree with Destro!

Multi is awesome!  The AI was so bad that playing 1p was pretty nasty, but having multi makes this game really shine

Sure it's a little slower but that was to be expected, and it's not so much slower than H3 that it's really much of a factor anyways.

To Jinxer : if you're so worried about people playing their favorite maps over and over, why don't you MAKE some, to keep the variety there?

Making maps!!

Pandora --  I do plan on making maps. BUT that wont change anything. Weather people like my maps or JB's maps or Vesuvius's maps.  The point is in 3 months when I log onto Gamespy and want to play a game on a brand new created map, I will hear stuff like.  I only want to play Map A or only MAP B.  Sure they might be fun. But the point is after a while the creativity and newness wears off and it becomes a studied map game all over again.

Now I am not fishing for flames here, I know this is a touchy subject for most of the FAVORITE map type players. I am sure I will have a favorite map or 2.  But when the games start boiling down to who found the fastest path of events to beat the map and there opponent the fastest it is no longer fun.  d to be honoest I am not sure I have a good solution, besides maybe making so many maps and posting say 10 maps then 2 months later posting 10 new ones.  That way every 2 months there is some fresh maps, and everyone dont fall into the same map learning rut.

Right now I SUCK SO bad at Heroes 4 main reason I havent a single clue what I am doing. I am learning as I go.  Each and every map I play is Brand new and I have never even looked at them in editor. So I am playing as RAW as you can.  And I am having best fun I have had in a long time in a heroes game. ( Besides H3 Randoms )  But in 2-3 months when everyone in TOH has played say Youris winter map 100+ times and they start taking the unkown elemet out and making it a " How fast can I hit the high points and end the game!' type of game, things will be exact same as in H3.

As I said I am not trying to start a map war or say people cant play maps they truely love and enjoy.  Just hoping that this time around everyone trys a new and fresh approachs, to keep this fresh and exciting.

I will start making a map, as I hear it is difficult so may take me a while. It will prolly be a Large map.  So I doubt many will try it, but atleast it will be there

what about something on the webpage which lets choose a random map to play, maybe with an interface where both use their handle and get the map to play per mail ?

Maps

Ditto Jinxer agree with you 100%

I never got into playing set maps with H3, and that is one of the few things i am not looking forward to with h4.

I will play them of course, but will always be looking  for fresh Blind maps to play, which is why i am loving h4 so far.

But in a few months...i am not sure.

FInd me on the SPY jinxer, i will ALWAYS play fresh blind maps.

well best thing for now is...

to not worry about the future and just have fun. complain when the problem arises but I think u got a good year before havin to worry about same ole patterns.

and another note...as a mapmaker, I see much more potential to diversify the h4 maps than there was in h3. take for example an open map with mobile and wandering creatures. now that would never play the same twice..if u try goin the same path you may run into something harder than expected. couldnt do that in h3, cept for border guards, but that didnt really mean much.

I hate to say it, but I really don't think making new maps is going to solve everything, H3 we had lots of maps, with most games played on maybe 10 different maps (more or less).

Me, I like playing blind or fairly blind, but it isn't very fun to play blind on a map your opponent knows like his backyard.

Jinxer, if you ever want to play when I am around, look me up and find out there ARE people that are worse than you! I will be glad to play any map.  Maybe that is part of the solution, getting people with same feelings to play each other.

Anyhow, about a week into my first multi game, and even with no sight of opponent, it makes things feel different.  I really like the savelock feature too, might make it easier to get people to accept saved games.  Of course, I like H4 a lot in single player.

Well said Jb!

But,

Already we are seeing people building the same heroes over and over.  A tactics hero, a mage, a nobility hero and stealth heroes are almost always found when playing in multi.

How does a map maker counter or allow other heroes to compete?  That's going to be the big question I think.

On large, Xl maps this isn't as big a problem but on mediums.....

I think for now it's too early to tell what can and can't be done to improve gameplay for a lot of us, i'm interested in making maps because you can create such awesome stuff with the editor - but i won't until i have some idea of how to play the game  But i'm sure as we learn the game we will also learn new ways to keep it fresh and exciting thru the maps we make...

Remember guys, repetitive map play wasn't really a huge concern in the first seasons of ToH. It started getting really bad after a few years when there were no new ideas left and then everybody just stuck to a few maps they liked.

The map editor is pretty intimidating (at least to me it is) and i sure wouldn't want to spend hours on a map before i really grasp all that can be done with the game.

But for now, lets not worry about what might happen, lets just have fun being n00bs again hehe

As much as I enjoyed playing h4 online, I will have to wait until they either release a patch, or I severely update my comp and connection. p3 733mhz 128ram runs single player fine, but with 56k modem, by the time pandora and i got to week1, the transfer time had gradually increased until from the end of pans turn til the start of mine, it was 11 minutes (this was after about 8 days of play) Pans running system is cable connect, about 1.8 ghz and at least 512k ram and we played many many games of h3 with 5 to 10 second data transfer, even with the worst of pings. If anyone can tell me this is run of the mill, and to be expected, I will refer them to my psychiatrist. Its bloody ridiculous.
