I have recently played two of midnights templates, here's some feedback / stories

Panic:
------
Played that one Large with Underground (130%), me being inferno, marsking (nice opponent ) fortress. Guards to next zone have been medusa queens, which I killed day 8 thanks to a level 5 Aislinn prisoner. Now 3 seperate ways to opponent (great idea), one guard is horde of nagas (ack), other is pack of tbirds, 3rd is horde of demons. VERY hard to for me do so I explored a bit. Took the tbirds (lots in the meantime) week 3, thanks again to Aislinn, who died bravely while softening the beasts down
From that point forward, things went smoothly, money coming in regulary, capitol and forsaken palace built week 3, Wystan with mass slow. Took the demons later, and the nagas much later (only to find rust dragons on other side, lol). So I didn't follow one way till the end, cause I wanted to explore all the ways in order to be warned of an attack. Well, to make it short, his stats have been slightly better than mine, but he found a few hives & cons, I didn't, so when I attacked Korbac who carried half army only (7 angels, 72 monarchs and 50 dflies), I didnt stand a chance, esp. since he found implosion scroll and his monarchs got morale twice.

what I liked: overall design, design of starting zone (I will copy & adjust it for my templates), strategic options, no game breaking arties or utopias on map
what I didn't like: game took too long (10 hours+), mostly due to us not playing very agressive though

Rating: 4 out of 4


Blockbuster:

I will make it shorter this time. Me vs splexx, Tower vs Dungeon, Lots of Devils at border of our starting zones, 130%, Large no under. Very rich treasure zone (reachable for both), I got Spellbinders Hat from there. All in all I guess I played more efficient, so after breaking through devils week 5 or 6 (again, very late compared to good random players) it was very easy having the momentum, superior stats, army & all level 5 spells.

what I liked: overall design, esp. design of starting zone (although way to wood mine was blocked by pack of master genies, but not that tough & enough piles lying around), fast expansion is rewarded.
what I didn't like: treasure zone too rich (spellbinders, SoJ, Lion Shield & Utopia); opponent had a road leading to that zone  I didn't (had to go through rough)

Rating: 3.5 out of 4

Hiya all i'm new to RMG and was wondering if there was any basic rmg's with each zone explained? i mean like zone 1 what this is for, what that is for? I'd appreciate a little help on this, thx.

Yup "Extreme" is a monster of a map.. Tough might hero suggested.. and HUGE stacks in treasure zone, which has big borders to it..

The few times I have played it now, my second town had been blocked by a large stack on a relic. However the connecting stack on the third zone, was not so bad.  Maybe midnight has fixed that now, or maybe its just going to be the roulette for the second town.

Good map though..

no reliance on gift 2nd town, that is why there is an alternative, scouting for and taking the 2 gold mines in start zone. once out of start zone there r no guarantees except rewards for huge battles

Hiya was hoping someone had a solution.
Using certain temps.

I dl & put it in my directory all the temps from the Bastards page.
Having trouble deleting certain temps so they never show up.

I found a way to erase so I followed the advice & erased just the name of the template & when I tried to load a random bymyself to test it, the template i erased shows up but this time the map looks really screwey?

Can anyone help also I have a question.
Can you erase all temps but one so you can only use that temp or is there an easiar way of doing it?

just go into wordpad and delete the whole templates u dont like. Make sure you also delete the connections which r way over to the right. Just make sure u dont delete the 3 line header at the start of the file, which is not part of any template.

ask me if u see me online and i'll explain it when u have an rmg open in front of u, same goes for anyone else who wants to learn how to make templates.

only thing is have a go at it first, and read the existing threads on it so u know what questions u wanna ask. first thing tho is to get the right editor so u can see the rmg data in columns. The link to it is on this page:

many of my templates have been updated, they r published on the TOH page below. It includes the new template EXTREME.

I'm gonna slow down in making new templates, but if anyone wants to know how to do it, read up on this and other threads, get the textedit editor that puts the values in columns, then ask me some questions when in zone.

Played EXTREME now... and Extreme it is. LOL
Supreme guards everywhere .. lots of level 7's throngs of level 6's and 5's
Nice treasures and boxes behind though guards.
Expect very high heroes in prisons (level 20-30).

I had stronghold with 4 extra rocs dwellings and one behomoths dwelling. Later in the game even an extra Stronghold. I was getting 32 Thunderbirds and 7 ancients each week.

Oh and didn't I mention my necro with two dragon dwellings extra. LOL

While I am writing this my opponent is attacking 113 Ancients.

Great map ... but takes some time to finish

ideas for new random templates

the number of ppl making random custom templates is growing, and u can see a discussion on Panic template at

not everyone will make their own templates

BUT

everyone can come up with ideas for new templates

A template layout is based on zones and connections, think of it like one of those drawings on a white board with boxes and arrows.

A zone is filled with creatures of varying sizes. This is configurable.

Also u might just say, i want a template like some 3do one, but change this and that. My starting point on EXTREME was Meeting in Muzgob. I used it to look at creature strength and density.

You might say for example:

I want a template like Ring but less conservatories and more relics.

I want a template with 7 zones. 2 starting zones separated by a big stack, they connect to 2 other zones each. Then finally join in a treasure zone. Well that one is called Blockbuster

I want a template like 8xm8 but without the hives and a bit more gold in starting zone.


Ok, u got how it works... ideas please...

Of course if u think ur idea is the best in the whole world, then why not keep it and make the template

Work in Progress

after the initial burst, the production of rmg files is slowing down. Here are some of my prototypes, be good to know how Sir Stiven, Bjorn, Haile etc. are going with their new templates.

Extreme
I've been fine tuning Extreme. I've improved the end game, what i need to do now is make the first 3 weeks quicker so can level up hero to about 12 and get into the meaty battles as fast as possible.

Solo
Working on a single player random. A good workout if u cant find an online game. So far the AI has shown how stupid it is lol. Dunno if i can get this one to work, but if i can, it will blitz all other single player maps.

Blockbuster II
Blockbuster was pretty popular so a 2nd version in development.

Scout Wars
Very early prototype. Not sure if it will work yet.

Marathon
A huge map for XL/under. Will rival 8xm8 for length of game. Multiple paths, multiple treasure zones, double builds, everything for a 20 hour marathon

Good job midnight, I like all of your templates very much. Extreme is a bit extreme for my taste, but that's ok. As for me producing new templates, I've started one called "Two Ring Circus" a few months ago. The layout is pretty obvious I guess
However, I didn't do the fine tuning yet and I'm not sure when or if I can finish that one.

Recently I've come back to playing fixed maps, one of the reasons being that even on a random L w/o underground games tend to take 7+ hours (with me playing maybe 2-3 hours of those). Maybe that'll inspire me to create a template suitable for medium size, but not anytime soon.

haile, using rmg it should be easy to make playable medium randoms, even without underground.

Blockbuster is playable on medium no under. try that one as a starter. ignore the text that says L-XL, it actually allows M as well.

kuma, yeah that would be fun, i havent finished it yet, but could get a rough version up in about an hour if i had to.
