3DO has announced that next spring it will release the second expansion pack for its turn-based strategy game Heroes of Might and Magic IV. The expansion pack will feature six new campaigns and a total of 40 maps, including some contest-winning fan-created single-scenario maps. The story-driven campaigns take place in Channon, a large kingdom on Axeoth's northern continent that has come under attack by no less than five invading armies. Players assume control of each of these five invaders.
Winds of War will also have three new fantasy creatures, new adventure objects, and a new soundtrack. The expansion will also add new features to the campaign editor, including a customizable object painter.

"With the breathtaking graphics and sophisticated storylines of Winds of War, we have continued the Heroes tradition," said Trip Hawkins, CEO of 3DO. "In this pack, players will enjoy hours of thrilling gameplay as they venture through six new campaigns and tinker with the new customization options."

Heroes of Might and Magic IV, the latest game in the venerable Might and Magic series, was released at the beginning of the year, and the first expansion for the game, The Gathering Storm, was released in September.

Great. Yet another pack that should have been included in the original game or at least in the previous expansion.

maybe they will add a random map generator.. but a new patch has to come out.

so that means more bug fixes.

3 Creatures isnt much :/

I must say I like the idea of a new soundtrack most, for IMHO, H4 misic is currently quite disappointing, except Nature and Chaos themes. I'd like to see... I mean hear the traditions of great HMM 2&3 music restored once again

Eh, not so fast.  For those who didnt get Gathering Storm (which is a lot of people), there are 7 new creatures, and a lot of new other stuff; Winds of War includes all the new things that came with Gathering Storm, so 3 + 4 new creatures = 7  If you didnt get gathering storm, i would definitely say this IS a worthwhile-expansion, since for you there will be quite a nice chunk of new stuff.

I run toh and dont even have any expansions yet

Why? I do enjoy homm4, but they are no expansions like what armageddons' blade did for homm3.    A few extra creatures is not worth the purchase.  The campaigns are irrelevant here, since they dont do anything for the multi side.  I might purchase the gathering storm expansion when I travel to hawaii, so on my laptop I can play the campaigns while on the long plane trips and airport stays.

This is all again the generic milking of homm4.

also, i wonder what that hero in the last screenshot is... perhaps a new type of hero, or maybe you can just customize your hero more by changing the look of his horse... because at least the horse part of the hero is new.

I'm a little sceptical about the expansion, but I reckon the map-making tools will be excellent and result in a bunch of cool new maps being created.

Did anyone notice this gem from our favourite CEO, Trip?

Well we dont actually know it is "mega dragon"... afterall he just said "*cough*mega dragon*cough*"

he couldve just meant that the new creature is a mega dragon, but the actual name could be different.

Before everyone keeps ragging on the name of the Megadragon, Christian explained some more about it:

Quote:
The Megadragon first made it's appearance in Might and Magic II (it was lurking in the Quagmire of Doom). It was seen again in Clouds of Xeen, and if I recall correctly, the Might and Magic VII team had a "baby" Megadragon tucked in somewhere...

So it seems they didn't just pluck it out of nowhere, its been in the series for a long time.
