A Decree from the High Gods of the Map Council

People have been complaining that there are actually only 10-15 playable maps on ToH (maps that have 2 players and are good/fun).  The maps with more than 2 players are considered unplayable now because of the data-transfer bug with computer players.

So I (with Bob's agreement) have decided on the following course of action.

-------------------------------------------------------

All maps with more than 2 players we are making a new 2 player version of them (if it is possible with the map).

Of course, we will leave the original version up there, so that the mapmakers don't get mad or whatever.
And anyway, by submitting their maps to ToH, similarly to the 3DO mapmaking contest, the mapmakers have given us the right to edit them, etc. so there is nothing wrong with us doing this, plus, like i said, the original version is still up there anyway.

When this is done (in 1-2 days if it goes smoothly) you, the players, will suddenly have 30-40 playable maps instead of 10-15.  This will be a very good thing for TOH and should make it more fun for all players, because suddenly people will be able to play all these "new" maps that they never played before because they were for more than 2 players!

No need to make different versions of the map as the all versions can be in the one map. Just like in Mud.

Map information in the ToH's map page is incorrect about Mud. It is 2-3 players not 2 players and computer. When there are only 2 players, the players can remove the AI player. And when there are three players, there naturally is no AI player. So there never needs to be computer player in the above map unless players want so, except when playing the map single.

Oh yeah, and the author is Thunder.

Lol, good to see you slipping deeper into Caesar-esque insanity

No, he's right it is a good idea which should be used more often. It still does leave the issue of a potentially large unused portion of the map which clogs up data transfer times, though, so I don't suggest map-makers go around making 4 player maps and just deleting the AI players too much, as they will still play somewhat slower than a pure, small, 2 player map.

I was aware of this possibility and I think it is a good idea, however, when a person who wants to download the map comes and sees "2-3 player" it will just confuse them.  Even if it says "3rd player can be edited out" or something like that, they will think that they dont know how to edit it out (even though, in reality, it is simply answering a yes/no question when game starts) and thus they wont download the map.

How about: 2-3 players (NO computer!)?

If players are still confused about NO computer part, maybe there could be a faq that explains the nature of NO computer in the maps' page? It could be possible to add other usual information about maps to the FAQ.

I look at your two player maps about every 2-3 days. I don't like computer players or maps with more than 2 players. I think most people in TOH like the same. My suggestion is how about making a separate directory for these maps. It would cut down on all the maps people don't care about, and would make spoting new maps easier and quicker.

I noticed a possible bug (more precisely, something that the maker must have looked over) in one of the ToH maps. Whom should I contact? (I've already mailed the author)

The letter to Sacred_Warriors

Feladó: "Csarmasz Máté" <csarmi@freemail.hu>
Címzett: sacred_warriors@mail.ru
Tárgy: Plains of Despair 2

-----------------------------------------------------------Hi!

I've discovered some facts about your map which could be
of interest to you.

The Pyro with the Black Dragons is just too easy to kill.

I don't know whether it was meant to be like that or not.
I mean, the Pyromancer is completely useless in that
stack. Just as he wasn't there. Now if he is completely
useless (and believe me, he is, since he CAN'T cast any
spells on the battlefield), then I don't see the point of
placing him in that stack. Cause he does no damage at all
(ok, maybe 5-10 with each attacks on my heroes). So
wouldn't it be better to have only the Black Drakes there?

Awaiting your answer.

Best regards,

Máté Csarmasz

Edit: What I'm referring to is that I can attack that hero with 1 stacks of centaurs until he depletes all his spell points.

Then the hero is a useless junk there.

Maybe a little script that increases the mana back to full everytime the Pyromancer has won will suffice. Or to make it even more nastier is to give the Pyromancer some extra levels & dragons & spells everytime the Pyromancer is victorious.

Yes, this is what I thought about.
Another one is to give him 2*15 Medusae and some fodder troops to the first line.
