Artifact Combining????
I have heard of many people saying that when thay had obtainde sertin artfacts that a message said came up asking if that wanted to combine the artifacts. Whats up with that and what are the different artifacts that you are able to combine.

There are several different sets that you can combine to get what they call "combo artifacts". Sometimes you can also find these artifacts already combined, usually from a utopia. I by far can NOT rattle off all the combo arties from memory and am not even going to try but here are a few.

these combos are only available with shadow of death expansion or heroes 3 complete.

Thanks Tew, I forget about that restriction. I have Heroes Complete so they have always been there for me, hehe. Sometimes I forget that some of you have been playing since Hector was a pup and have bought them one at a time. I'm a late comer.
Another tiny note, they are also available in the WoG addon, just so you know.

combo's were also avalible in RoE but patch release 1.4 or 1.3 put a stop to them.

R u sure about that max?
Personally i dont know, but sounds weird that the would have combo artifacts in roe, then take them away with help from patches (updates) and then release them agian as a sales pitch for buying the new games ( ab and sod).

Actually there were a few combos in the original heroes..
You could build the mana combo, and I belevie the archery one.. theres a few others but my memory fails me..
If you look at the map "The Challenge" those combos ae placed on that map.. or at least the peices for them.
so yes in 1.0 1.1 definately guranteed there are combos.. however no AA or PDOF or anything crazy.

I remember I found the cloak of the undead king In RoE. Havent seen it after I updated to 1.4 though

Original RoE had no combo artifacts, thats for sure. But when SOD came out, RoE was updated to include combos. I remember playing TOH games where I got combos, and I always had RoE only. They removed it I guess in the 1.4 patch.
So many newbies...

can remember being asked if i wanted to combine when i first played game, could have been 1.0 b4 i came on-line, but deff remember cause i didnt have a clue what comp meant LOL

I deliberately did not mention that one because dimension door and fly are removed from most maps and unused by most players because it is, in my opinion, an unfair and unfun (is that a word?) advantage. IMO it takes all the fun out of the game. I have had the angel boots or whatever in a game as well and not used them and gotten beat because of it, (remember that one Destro? Fearflame, hehe).
For me, it's one of those things that you have to decide on beforehand. If you make the rule "no fly, no dd" then if you get the well and use them you are breaking the rule. That is my thought anyway. However the artifact IS in the game so if you decide not to make the rule, you are open to someone getting it. A majority of the maps that I have seen that are made have the spell deliberately removed and the artifact banned.

Alright...
For all you guys claiming that roe has no combo artifacts..
I'll explain it..
In early versions of roe.. not 1.4, there was a bug known as the "5th slot" if your hero was wearingsay bow of cherrywood, bowstring, talisman of mana, and say.. glyph of gallantry. and he was to pick up the angel feather arrows.. those arrows would go into the unseen, 5th slot, and the artifact would be combined and give you the combo.
Maybe Pandora will show up and back me up on this one
But I've also learned that yes it was possible to assemble ALL of the combo artifacts in 1.4..
As I understand it, your hero needed to be wearing all of the nessecary components, when the final peice was picked up. Unistall that H3 copy and load up 1.0 edit a map, and give it a try. Maybe you'll be surprised.

When Shadows of Death was released, so was a patch for RoE (1.3 i believe) and it was only with that version that you could assemble the combos - and suffer from the '5th slot' bug.
You couldn't make the combos in any version before that patch, as they didn't exist yet. Version 1.4 was then released taking the combos back out of RoE, and fixing the 5th slot bug.
The 5th slot in 1.3 was a nightmare, especially when playing random maps lol Imagine your main hero picks up the shackles.. or the orb of inhibition and you didn't realize that your 4 slots were filled? Now you are permanantly shackled on your main, or cannot cast a spell lol
In 1.3 you were able to assemble all of the combo artifacts listed in SoD - just as Destro said

I have a question...
If you combine the artifacts, do they also keep their original "things."
Like when you make that Archery thing, do you still keep that +30% to archery skill??
