X in X or X marks the Spot Map

Posting as a warning to others and a msg to the map council.  There is a problem with this "X in X"  map in that you cannot load a save made (or autosave for that matter) in multiplayer with this map.

I had this occur b4 and put this map down forgetting that it happened, we now have a clan war and on of our mates 3 weeks into game cannot load their save.

In that I was going to play clan war on it tomorrow morning ( I think we have to use substitute map now) Hidden dragon and I tested it, and had same problem.

also please look at Bob remake from Bastards page as a possible toh map please )

Thanks Zud.  You beat me to the punch posting this.  Oh, and I second getting BOB as a toh map.  Pretty please, oh wise map council members.

To digress for a bit; I've been thinking about clans lately (Too many games on my hands ) and I think we need a couple of people to edit maps for clan play.  It's frustrating to waste an hour or so editing a map before you can actually start playing.

Ok, so an hour is a bit of an exaggeration, but it seems that many people really don't know how to use the h4 map editor.  What I'm proposing is to help all those clan leader's out there.  If they will email what bonuses(I'm thinking of Metallurgy clans here) they want to use, I'll edit the maps (One for each player as eachcolor, so host just downloads the correct one) and post them here.

Or not.  Depends on wether you guys think it's a good idea.  I know I'll do it for Insatiable's clan anyways as it saves me time later on.

One more thing for Jinxer.  The map page says it's Genesis 1.3 but when I download it I seem to get version 1.1.  Is that correct or did you just not change the carryover info in the map properties?

So what if the map the leaders chose totally sucks.  If both players agree can we play a different map?

another recommendation

following what is said here, its not a bad idea for clan leaders to prepare the maps for the players, especially the artifact bonus heavy ones.

Ves, how do I submit a clan page to you?  This is the address but if that won't work I can email it to you.Myrmidon Clan Page

And to all Myrmidons and their clan war opponents; please visit the maps page to download maps that have the bonuses edited in and are all ready to go.  Simply decide on the colors and download the correct one.  And then edit in the portal of your choice.  Or just email me which you would like and I can do it.  These can be found here: Clan Maps

Edited because I completely forgot about my clan's bonus.  *sigh*  Much too tired to be posting.

Nice Sarcasim, insatiable.  You missed my point.   I will explain in greater detail.

IN one of our clan wars. The map Unknown Lands is the map.  It is a transfer MONSTER! 150K in size. So with my 56K connection it is a virtual impossibility to finish a game in time with 20+ min transfers.  So instead of getting a double forfiet etc, my question was, if both players agree that it would be waste of time to play such a bad transfer map, could they agree on a substitute map?  Ofcourse all other setting and guidelines apply.  But we chose a map that was 1/2 the size so transfers are going twice as fast.

Noone is trying to be a rebel and blindly break the rules here, just wanting to avoid more forfiets.  DOnt forget its 3do that screwed us on transfers.

Does this explain it better Insatiable?

I'll post the homepage link

A lot of clan leaders in the past would create homepages.

In jinxers' case, if the clan leaders of his and his opponent's clan email me stating the problem, things can always be arranged.  But thats as long as I am notified and ok it.

Notice that Jinxer does not email me, clanleader does.  With all correspondance the leader should be responsible for managing his players.

Sigh. I guess that I have to then modify the map for ToH and only for multiplayer uses, replacing the Quest Huts with 3rd Dwellings and getting rid of all scripts in the map, though I have hard time to believe that they are the cause. Doesn't other maps that have scripts load fine?

I suspect that the reason is the Remove AI script, not actually the script itself but the reason that it removes some of the players from the map. Has anyone played multi (in any map) where there are more than two human players and then loaded the game fine later after one of the players have dropped?

Maybe I'll just make 2vs2 and 1vs1 versions of the map, and remove the Remove AI script from them and leave the quest huts as they are.

Insatiable, I don't know what is the exact reason why your Map Editor crashes when viewing long scripts (you'd see that they are long if you'd see them ) but I suspect it is yet another problem caused by Win XP/2000. I can see them just fine with 98 and ME.

And yes, the map loads perfectly fine in hotseat or in SP.

As for transfer rates, does the game send the whole map or just things changed in it? If former then transferring can be made a lot faster in some maps by removing excess scenery from the map (like foliage and flowers), which don't add anything to the play of the map but only to it looks.

the other thing i dont like about the remove AI script (although this is pretty minor complaint) is that those players STAY IN THE THIEVES GUILD when you view it.  So, since the thieves guild has to accomodate the non-town-having, non-army-having comp players (who really dont exist), then it f u c k s up the scale of the thieves guild, thus making it a lot harder to see the difference between you are your opponent.
I hope you see what im saying - it isnt exactly the easiest thing to explain

a couple other things -

Was browsing through the clans pages today, and saw one of the current clan wars was using shallow be thy game.  I was wondering why one of the rules was "no ice deamons".
I realize this used to be a prob, but i've since made a version 1.1 map (it was posted 1 or 2 months ago i think) which places a healthy ice demon stack in front of the ice demon dwelling (while also not interfering with the player's ability to get by... which is the reason those rocks were added).  I hope you guys realize this.
http://toheroes.com/h4maps/shallowbethy2.zip - 1.1 version.

Also, on those same clan war rules it said "No Hamsters" ... lol what is a hamster?
