WHich creature on heroes 4 do you think will win 1 thunder bird or one Champion 
All even stats?

Thunderbird
Thanks to that lightning, which adds more damage to its stats. This of course is as long as it remains to have the initiative, and the champion does not get to do its long range charge to increase its damage beyond the lighning potential.

The Thunderbird would win according to my testing.
I've tryed this with the following settings:
1 vs 1 - Thunderbird
2 vs 2 - Thunderbird
5 vs 5 - Thunderbird
10 vs 10 - Thunderbird
However, in larger numbers the Champion seems to get the better half:
30 vs 30 Champion
50 vs 50 Champion
80 vs 80 Champion
Important to point out is that the Champion did'nt get the chance to use it's charge ability ^^

I didnt test but
champion is faster I think and that should kill thunder
if champ is slower .thunder win

well usually you will have more than ONE thunderbird so... there is good chance that the lightning will strike. So i say tbirds.

i didn`t try it yet , but i think champion will strike 3 times for each one of the phoenixes....
