Town Hall/Castle System

I think the current Town Hall system is dumb.

Here's my suggestion for building up towns:
Base Building (REQUIRED FOR ALL OTHER BUILDINGS):
Community Hall
Required for marketplace, tavern, prison and Wood Fort. If not built, a tent is provided to house the builders. Provides 250 gold/day

Wood Fort
Level 1 City Wall
Allows construction of Lvl1 buildings, Mage Guild Lvl1, and Village Hall. Provides +100 gold/day.

Community Hall---->Village Hall
Provides 250 gold/day
Required for Mage Guild Lvl2, Resource Silo, Upg. Lvl1 Dwellings (If in existance) and Stone Fort.

Wood Fort---->Stone Fort
Level 2 City Wall
Required for Lvl2-3 dwellings and Township Hall
Provides +200 gold/day

Village Hall---->Township Hall
Provides 500 gold/day.
Required for Upg. Lvl 2-3 dwellings, Moat, 1 Hero Ability Upgrade Building and Item Shop.

Stone Fort+Moat
The moat is 1 yard away from the wall.
Required for Left Turret and Right Turret.

Stone Fort & Moat+ Turrets
The Turrets fire once each round, 6 shots each.
Both Turrets required for Keep.

Stone Fort, Moat & Turrets+Keep
The Keep Fires once each round, just before the Turrets. 10 shots. Required for Town Hall.

Township Hall---->Town Hall
Provides 1000 gold/day.
Required for 2nd hero ability upgrade building, lvl 4 creature dwelling, Citadel and Lvl 3 Mage Guild.

Fully Upgraded Stone Fort---->Citadel
Lvl 3 City Wall. Adds 2 to attack of Turrets, and 3 to attack of Keep. Also adds 2 shots to Turrets and Keep.
Provides +750 gold/day.
Required for Fortifications, Double Moat, Upg. Lvl 4 Dwelling, Statue (+125 gold/day), Lvl 4 Mage Guild and Dungeon (Upg. Prison, provides +100 gold/day).

Citadel+Double Moat
Increases the size of the moat by 1 yard outward.

Citadel+Fortifications
Lvl 4 City Wall
Creatures cannot attack over wall. If catapult in game, increases the number of turns it takes to destroy the walls.

Fully Upgraded Citadel Required for City Hall

Town Hall---->City Hall
Provides 1500 gold/day
Required for Lvl 5 Dwelling, Castle and Morale/Luck booster.

Fully Upgraded Citadel---->Castle
Lvl 5 City Wall
Increases attack and shots of Turrets by 4, and Keep by 6.
Required for Upg. Lvl 5 dwelling and Metro Hall.
Provides +1000 gold/day

City Hall---->Metro Hall
Provides 2000 gold/day
Required for lvl 6 dwelling, Upg. Fortifications and Alignment Unique Building.

Upg. Fortifications
Lvl 5 City Wall
Increases the # of turns it takes to destroy walls with catapult. Archers cannot fire over wall. Required for Capitol, Lvl 5 Mage Guild and Upg. Lvl 6 Dwelling.

Metro Hall---->Capitol
Provides 4000 gold/day. You are allowed only 1 capitol per game. Required for Landmark.

Statue---->Landmark
Provides +2500 gold/day. Can be built in any town if you have a Capitol.

Okay, that was the longest post I've ever made; please give me your suggestions, corrections and commentary.

First a question:
community hall provides same amount of gold as the village hall? (250/day)- there's no upgrading in that...

From your scheme I see that in order to increase the income in a town you must have the complete fortifications required for that level. Hence two problems:
1. That decreases the strategy used in the game, since you have to fully develop the towns to make them productive. That means that they will pay the debts for buiding them later in the game, and they are of no use in short and medium games, since you can't afford to build them, at least not on higher levels of gaming.
2. How come a fortification -citadel- is able to bring you money? I haven't seen it neither in games nor in reality...

The upgrading of the fortifications however looks fine. perhaps you should add also an upgrade for the gate.

Good idea, Saruman, but I think you have overdone on hall/fort improvements. Here is my town building idea:

Village Hall - The basic structure that is found in all towns. Gives 500 gold/day.

Town Hall - Upgrade of Village Hall. Gives 1,000 gold/day.

City Hall - Upgrade of Town Hall. Requires Fort and Tavern. Gives 1,500 gold/day.

Capitol - Upgrade of City Hall. Requires Citadel, Marketplace, and Thieves Guild. Gives 2,500 gold/day. You may only have one Capitol.

Fort - Builds a Level 1 wall and a Level 1 gate. Gate can sustain 1 attack. Required for building dwellings and everything except Town Hall and Tavern. Defending units gain a 25% defense bonus behind walls.

Citadel - Builds a Level 2 wall and a Level 2 gate. Gate can sustain 2 attacks. Adds a moat and a primary arrow turret to the keep. Upgrade of Fort. Defending units gain a 50% defense bonus behind walls. Attacking units in the moat must wait one turn to enter keep.

Castle - Builds a Level 3 Wall and a Level 3 gate. Gate can sustain 3 attacks. Adds two secondary arrow turrets (fire at half strength of primary arrow tower). Also add two platform towers to allow ranged units attack from atop, giving them a 50% attack bonus. Upgrade of Citadel. Defending units gain a 75% defense bonus behind walls.

Tavern - Allows for the recruitment of heroes. Defending units gain +1 morale.

Thieve's Guild - Returns as a structure. Gives vital information on enemies. More thieve's guilds gives more information.

Marketplace - Returns as a structure. Allows you to trade resources. More marketplaces mean better prices.

Statue - Gives an extra 500 gold/day.

Well - Returns from Heroes 1 and 2. Building a well gives a 25% growth bonus on creature growth.

Blacksmith - Allows for the purchase of items.

There.

Sorry, there's a few errors there because I typed it from about 8:15PM to 9PM.

Perhaps there are a few problems with the way it builds up. I wasn't really thinking very hard.

I like some of Damacon_Ace's ideas, but now I definetly think that HOMM5 should go to a HOMM2 style (Tent is base building, Tent becomes Castle, Castle provides 1000 gold/day, Castle is where all the other buildings are built from and where heroes are recruited.), because I think that would be a bit better storyline-wise.

HOMM1 was everyone trying to take over Enroth, and Ironfist (Castle, WEAKEST!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?) somehow was supposed to have won; HOMM2 was first the Succesion Wars between Ironfist's sons, and AGAIN the weaker side (Roland) won AGAIN (!?!?!?!?!?!?!?) ; HOMM3 was on another continant, and had several storylines starting with Gryphonheart's death; And HOMM4 was post-apocalyptic storyline, with everone settling the New World, and War just beginning again...

And so it follows suite that HOMM5 will have an economy and storyline simmilar to that of HOMM2, as it will probably be about the growing wars between the factions.

Therfore, I think the HOMM2 system should be introduced, along with some modifications.

heroes 2, both armies could have won, roland and archibald (ifind the names neat cause those are my 2 grandfathers name [:S]) but i liked the way heroes 2 played both teams could have won and it was great. hereos 5 should have castles with a well, only percent (25%?) this time instead of +2) as well as castle giving up to (75%?) and you build everything in the castle, same way hereos 2 worked.

Well, in the official storyine of M&M and HOMM, the Knights always won the major conflicts, which has always bothered me. Why can't the STRONGER bad guys win?!?!?!?!?

The bad guys loose because the game inventors think that the players (like us) Don't like the bad guys.

Oh yah and Saruman, I hate the town hall system, I think we should stick to:
Build at castle, build little buildings like statues to get more gold and no anoying town halls.
