I'm tired of rampart

I'm playing on toh, and the only thing i see is rampart, RAMPART VS RAMPART, Ivor vs mephala.
On extreme and blockbuster, there isn't anything better.
People ban necro, and conflux (i will never understand why conflux) But they don't ban rampart, but that's all on those templates, Why? they have the best way to clean zones fast, and that's all on those templates. Magic heroes are killed too, since it's allowed orb if ihnibition, and reecanters, Really wouldn't you like a template where all the towns are more balanced?

it depends

on some maps fortress and castle really clean up....especially where utopias are concerned. inferno does remarkably well too. people are stuck on rampart because they are easy to play.



  i agree though,excluding some extraordinary circumstances,rampart does best early,especially the ever crucial week 1,where only the toughest of stacks cant be fought.

 the thing about castle however is once it gets going,it cant be stopped. even without extra cons,angels are the best unit overall for utopias(unless on 100 diff) and are the fastest.



 the thing that makes these the 2 top towns in my books however isnt the towns themselves,but the terrain. grass is by far the richest of starting areas,only rivaled on occasion by lava(inferno). and if you know how to demon farm semi-reasonably with low level critters from extra towns,look out.


   stronghold would be a force too if not for the crippling cost of cyclops. while they are only 2nd to titans for shooting prowess,they infringe too much on your crystal supply. but bottom line,overall they have the nicest might heroes.


    and then there is dungeon..like castle,hard to build,amplified by the fact though that you arent on grass. if you can match build for build with this town,you will win many,but therein lies the trick. remember too,portal of summoning

  and who can forget fortress...everyone who 1st picks this game up thinks they suck...at a glance they do lol. but thier whole army is very deceptive. poison,death gaze,stoning,and weakness take a horrible toll. thier defence 1st ask questions later approach is in direct contrast to stronghold,but just as effective. they do however lose some punch when played on anything harder than 100 diff.


   tower....deceptive too,thier cost is what kills them...3 shooters,1 flyer,and 2 devastating "tank" units..but can you afford the gems?  i generally cannot lol.


 in short ,i am sick of these matchups too...but like i wanna get saddled with tower even on 100 diff when opp picks castle?

That's the problem on the templates i already named, fighting the thougest stack possible is all, if you can fight bigger stacks, you are on better position, and rampart is by far the best town to do so.

Well, castle is my subsequent option, but they have some problems early on with shooters, and you must go to griffins to have good block shooters on week 2. The only reason i think castle can match rampart, are conservatories, even on those templates are greatly reduced, is not stragnte to find a couple of them.

If you know both templates, they do have necro as other towns, and necro creatures can't be transformed. About the terrain, i think all have good resoureces, but one of the reason dungeon is even worst, is that the no under thing is really bad for them, having to clean a dirt sone is harden than an under zone.

If you compare what orcs can do and what elves can do on week one....
I agree they have crag hack, but well, Rampart isn't short of options, Kyrre, Mephala, Ivor.. And to me kyrre is better than crag hack

AS i told, the fact of having no under hurts them, And they need lot of gold, since to match elven power you should buy Beholders and medusas, needles to say they are more expensive, and instead of having centaurs or pegasus for shooters blockers, you need manticores, again, more expensive.

They are an excellent army for final fight, no doubt at it, but they don't have that much for openings, And you can carry sacrifice food for the second other town hero first week, since you are on swamp and only can use fortress units, if you find enough wood and gold, you can buy wyverns fast, but that's not very common on 160. And even then it isn't as good as elves.

Gems is not my problem, all the other resources are my problem, what in the hell where they thinking when they established the mage building cost? .... But the other problem is tower heroes, they have some acceptable, for other kinds of templates, but really for BB and extreme, not they are completly screwed.

No you won't, so what you need is a template and rules where tower can match rampart.

Nope, what you need is to go all random and have the skill to play and adapt to each alignment. Inferno and Fortress rock on extreme, they can do things that no other town type can. Regardless of all that, you should have your level7/castle build at the end of week2 with any castle type (unless you have been extremely unlucky). If you dont, the you arent playing it well enough.

newer players always love rampart because it is cheap and easy to build in week 1, but how can you ever beat an extra 8 archangels harvested from conserves and upgraded in castle town week 4 or 5?

This is how i would rate towns on Extreme, for example, in order (assuming no necro or flux):

Castle
Fortress
Inferno
Rampart
Stronghold
Dungeon
Tower

so u can see that rampart as a town is the middle of the pack.

Now, if make rules like ban logistics spec, and allow ppl to pick an armourer hero, then obviously ppl will pick tazar/fortress and mephala/rampart.

So.. play random heroes and half your problem is gone.

MM, with any town? .....i see it very hard with Dungeon for example.... see.... you need
CITADEL
CASTLE
HARPIES
BEHOLDERS
MEDUSA
MANTICORES
LEVEL GUILD 2
DRAGONS
Marketplace
Blacksmith
Town hall
City hall
At least 3 heroes

so you need 51000 gold, not counting units supuse that you spend only 9000 Gold on units
that's 60000
Now rest 10000 initial
rest 5500 of gold first week plus 11000 gold second week of town
so you have 35000 Gold, you have to find....... Well, that's not hard if you find some dwarven treasure, and medusa stores, but in my games, that's not the common thing, and worst that's not enough, each day you need to have the enough resources, and finding 1 of each resource (Extra), plus 5 mercury plus 29 Sulfur, the luck must give you the resources, and all that sulfur, plus all that gold
And you must finds things in order, sometimes you need be lucky to get all those, now if you say you play 130 everthing is more easy (if you play 100 , well on 100 even my little sister could do it).

And talking about lucky i told, those maps are very lucky, my last game on blockbuster, there was 7 utopias on my side and ZERO on the oppoenent side.....i could assamble the angelic alliance!!!!......i did have two elven dwelling two centaut dwelling and a pegasus dwelling, while my oponnent no one....well, yes...that was luck, luck runs the world.

If you want the maps to be richer, then have a richer setting (eg. 130%), so there is not a bias to the cheap towns. Dont make the setting poor and then expect the template to be changed to make it richer, that doesnt make sense. Most ppl play 130% richness so most template makers will tune the gold and resources for that.

On BB check the version. The old versions had too many utopias and hives. I suspect you played an old version. So, rather than repeat a 2nd time how many utopias u got, look at the template from the save. If it was from latest BB version, that is of interest, otherwise the problem has been fixed.

Also, if u dont like high stat games, dont play BB or extreme, play Panic template instead where relics and lvl 3 arties r removed. Panic also wont get all-spell boxes, so u need to build the magic in your guild. Sounds like u prefer that type of template.

ok, saw in other thread that it is latest BB, u got very very lucky. Try Panic template, less luck, prolly suit u better.

I wouldn't worry about Rampart being popular for too long. They're just the town de jour. Back a little wile ago, everyone was playing Night Elves on the Warcraft B-Net. Now it is a little more balanced. Don't worry, it'll pass.

Well

really Dungeon and stronghold where used once, sine they did play other kinds of maps, ...i would say closed MAPS not templates and on 100 (i didn't play that era, but i heard about it)....and on a map like showdown, they aren't bad at all....but on random , well ,things change

Just felt I needed to mention...

Midnight above rated tower as the worst alignment for extreme.  
Being the tower lover I am, I have to disagree.. Tower on extreme can get a very nice boost, Tower can clear things earlier than many other towns, with the right combination of things.
I am not trying to say they are the best here.. cause well, obviously they are not.  But on a map where income is easy to come by, and resources are guranteed via zone 2, tower is definately not a last place alignment

anyway just wanted to clear that up

Ok, so tower can be fun on Extreme, that is good, but which is worse than tower? Dungeon or stronghold? Dungeon is a slow developer too but has high speed drags and extra creatures thru portal. Stronghold has no high speed creatures (gets hit by horde ghosts round 1 for example) and hard to get lvl 6 built so that is the only contender for last place imo. But u will get ancients a week ahead of titans.

This is semi off topic but it was brought up that necoropolis and conflux get the ban, thats pisses me off when people play games and put part of it out because they are too petty to deal with it. I remember how i used to play dark forces II:jedi knight back in its hayday and after a while all tou see is one level being used and sabers only. Excluding stuff from the game, and only playing certain settings is the first signs that a games multiplayer base is dying.
