Undo move option in H5 ?

In some games of chess online or on comp, there has been undo moves option.

We all know sometimes we make the dreadful mistake of clicking on the square beside the creature when all we meant to do was attack the creature.

So I hope that we can undo our last move...whether it becomes a single player or multi player option that is yet to be decided...

What do you think of the undo last move only option?

Hmmm, this might be worth my time.

The "undo move button" would allow the human player to cheat, he could find the enemy and see how strong he was then just go "He he... undo!" then he'd be all ready for the enemy. So it's not the best idea.

I've cursed the game a lot of times for the same reason: my magi went out on the field to do melee damage to the efreti... and each time (on single player) I loaded the autosave and played it again, so it doesn't really differ from cheating, from this point of view.
the remedy is this: an undo button, active only when you move instead of attacking (melee, ranged, or cast spell).
the aleviation of the problem: the designer teams should work a little on the pointer issue, it's hard to pinpoint the target, especially when range-attacking...

However, Soccerfeva had a very good idea!

Think it's a no for on the adventure map
In battles it could be a possible option, yet I do think that both players (talking about multiplayer) should agree on an undo. Yet I can only see how this would cause problems and verbal fights between players.

My general experience of 'Undo' as a programmer, is that its hard to do (costs a lot of programming effort) and it also tends to slow down the program.

As mentioned 'Undo' is a bit like cheating so my preference on this issue is 'No thanks'.

I think I would prefer a comfirmation of moving instead. You could choose to not use this feature by clicking a box on the menu.

I would also like to have those warnings that you didn't build a building in your towns. They have them for not moving your heroes and building in towns are just as important if not more.

the building warning would become really annoying at some point where everything you want to build is built or you are just collecting money, so no building is meant ot happen over quite a lengthy period of time.

Like in H3,there's the sleep hero button, whereby if your hero hasn't move it will just pass over.

So in H3,if you've built finish everything, then you can click the stop building reminder or something..

About the undo option..yes,I think undo only when you've moved is a good idea.

And about the speed of the program..we'll leave it to the programmers!

The 'undo movement' button is a good idea, because if you accidentally move your hero to a place where you don't want to go to you can simply undo your movement and then correct it. However I am a little concerned about this concept in that it can be used for cheating purposes.

Are you a programmer Djive? Didn't know that.
Now I really don't see much difference between 'undo' and autosave. Could someone explain me?..
And btw, the difficulty of undo implementation in program depends on the type of the program... The simplest undo in a simple text editor will take only one line of code...

yeah but undo, would in a legit sense only be able to be used when

adv map.

a) you havent explored new land (with 2 fog of war hard to do)

b) you didnt start a battle (because if you did you could check out the army realise you will lose, undo and run away)

battle

c) if you didnt do any physical damage (i.e you started walking near ennemy instead of shooting) otherwise you could attack see if you kill them. see the damage if not satisfied undo

the only reasons i could see it being usefull would be in battle if you cast the wrong spell, or on the wrong unit (as spells always do the same damage) but then again resistance would block some so you may change idea, this would slow you down.

the adventure map, you could just pay more attention, or play on a slower speed, remember you can always stop your hero in mid movement

I am a fan of the building reminder. where it turns on at the begging of the game, every turn it reminds you, and there will be a box you press "completed buildings" and it will never ask again.

If you mess up, deal with it.  Don't mess up.

I think undo would be used for cheating, like autosave.

The undo requires that you log each and every action in some way. Normally, the game would log only thing which affects scores, quests and so on. Most things are designed to raise a trigger on a script somewhere.

The implications of adding an Undo is that any script which you trigger will also need an undo option. Take the example where your movement triggered a mine or trap, or an event. All of these will need "undo" scripts.

Programming effort also depends on whether you want undo only on movement in combat or if it also applies to movement on the combat map. The former will probably be doable since rest of the game is halted while combat is resolved. The problem as I can see it is that it's 50% likely that the AI was the next to move and has moved long before you can choose to take back your move. So undoing your move implies being able to undo several moves, keeping track of damage done to all creatures, which spell affects has been added and so on.

On the adventure map it's also a lot of job to keep track of "undo" in an MP game. (Especially so if Heroes gets simultaneous turns or similar features.)

I would rather that the programmers made the AI better in these areas rather than strenghtening the position of the player and giving them more possibilities to "cheat" and "exploit" weaknesses in the AI.
