Nice write-up .
Mordred06 said: Keep in mind that the ballista and first aid tent cannot be blinded and DO PLAY a turn, once some of their units are blinded, kill the ballista and first aid tent (the ammo cart can be ignored) before attacking the blinded units.
One thing to add is that the enemy AI can only flee during the First Aid or Ballista phase, if the enemy Hero has the First Aid Skill or the Artillery Skill, respectively. Otherwise, just as with human players, those warmachines trigger automatically, out of control of the Hero.

Weird AI Blind block
Can anyone explain to me, what happens in 0:19 in this clip? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GxbrrHfslM The griffins won't move to angel. This is my video and it happened on SoD with HD-mod. I wasn't using any cheats or cheat engines. I haven't been able to replicate this effect besides this fight.
The only explanation I came up with is that Griffins fear second Blind, which would block passage to me enitrely, but it doesn't seem plausible. Any ideas? Has someone noticed this yet? I haven't found similar thread on English-speaking forums.

Hero has some area-spell available (e.g. Meteor Shower, Fireball...) and enemy doesn't want to send a second stack that could risk extra damage. I showed this some time ago in a few places like this.

1 level hero with one War Unicorn beats 60 gnolls. How? First Aid and strategic hit & run when you can hire Gem for example. And goes to landscape. Gem becomes scout. So I recommend you play Elite (SoD map) from maps4heroes. Elite you learn new tricks.

use the terrain to avoid getting outflanked. back your horse into a corner and beat the gnolls back a few at a time.

Hello,
I'm playing with a friend HotA random H maps,8 players, 6 AI, on impossible. We duel only after all AIs are dead.
Which towns and heroes do you consider to be the best for those kind of maps ad why?

If it is very resourceful map, then Wizard Town(Tower Faction) is very good option if you go for mage guild. Also Necropolis with HotA nerfs still is good to go, if you quickly build Vampire Lords powerstack. Castle even if it lack mage guild level 5, still Angels are solid units, and recommend is learn Water Magic so you can benefit from Clone + AAs resurection.

no really, i think everyone knows how to defeat zombies with some ranged shooters and 1 hitter stack...
i strongly disagree that archery is good with most towns, i dont wont if for my main too often.
How often does it happen you meet exactly the monsters on map where archery makes such a huge difference?
Wystan with fortress or calh...shhhhhhh they suck for me.
With Stronghold it sux coz usually u dont build clops, which leaves archery as good skill for castle, Tower of course and sometimes dungeon.
With rampart i only want it early if i got a elf dwelling...for elves only from normal build? no way, they get blocked in main battle and all the skill is for nada.
Heres some stuff about topias: dont attack the greens and the reds with a weaker unit before they move...somehow they tend to attack the stack that is placed right in front of them - that happened to my quiet often with sultans, attacking 5 reds with a stack of 14 sultans sounds good if your force isnt so big, kill some off before they move and only loose 1 maybe, but: the reds and the greens will attack them and you loose too many.
the greens are your main target to hit after they moved usually - lowest defense skill but biggest damage they deal, so take the retal and concentrate on them...your last target should be the blacks.
Never use the spirit of oppression in topias - drags alrdy cant get morale and wont freeze (only if you got a ghosti).
the best part is 3 was undoubtedly!!!!

I always liked Clavius in those situations. Extra gold plus he fights willingly..............and well.

Might seem like «basics» for some, but gonna give a tip on something I like to do. I haven’t seen it mentioned in the thread, so might be of worth to someone, although it’s probably not an ingenious and revolutionary tactic:
Using all mines for chaining army:
It’s difficult to examplify the perfect usage, but there’s probably a couple of instances in a game where you should look at the option of leaving your army as guards on a mine. The guards can either spend the night guarding the mine, or be picked up by another hero in your chain. Admittedly it’s a risky move, and probably has its best usage in the early-game in maps where you’re certain the opposition won’t catch you off guard early on, and decimate your troops without a hero protecting them.
Some reasons why it sometimes makes sense:
- you wanna leave one or more stacks out of an upcoming battle as a way of minimizing losses.
- you want to go all-native to avoid movement-penalty.
- you want to maximize movement next day by dropping slow creatures
- you want to divide your army to be able to take on more battles before the end of the turn (dropping the stacks at the mine might be the “fastest way” to do it).
Mines are basically an unmovable part of your chain if you want to include them. In some areas of the map you’ll have loads of opportunities to use this exploit, in others not so much.
I find it especially useful in campaigns, as there’s often maps where taverns are blocked in your town, or your hero starts without a town, and has to rush to get one. Maximizing movement through mines can then be key to securing a town and troops a day earlier, which can impact your campaign in a big way.

I started using this strategy recently, to be honest. It's very nice. I even made some parts of my map include places where it's recommended to leave troops temporarily in mines.

Force ranged units to melee?
Is it possible to force a ranged unit to perform a melee attack instead without having an enemy unit next to it? For example, to force Grand Elves to move and melee rather than perform their ranged attack.
I didn't find an answer to it on the forums, or through Google Fu.
