in HoMM5... Everyone complains about them because in their town lives six types of dwarves and a dragon Am I the only one who like the HoMM5 dwarves? As I said earlier the dwarf town could be town for some dwarves, some runic golems, maybe even the behemots in HoMM6. Don't destroy the independence of these little guys
6 dwarves is better than a couple a ensemble cast of loosely connected critters.
I am misunderstood O_o... I just love all six dwarves and the fire dragon!!! I am angry at people who doesn't like them geez...
So I am appealing to them that in HoMM6,if they really don't want another "six dwarves + dragon town" we can add some no-dwarven creature.
IMO it's something great that fortress(from HoMM5) uses almost only dwarfs. They defending themselves with own men, without any support of faeries, hydras etc. Maybe it's because they have own pride or something. And the fire dragon is a avatar of Arkath and they must accept his help in battle.

Nice to finally have the results here. I think the top 12 list holds pretty few surprises - after all, all the Heroes 5 factions are there, with one glaring omision, which is the dwarves, which has already been discussed a lot. Personally, I agree, not putting the Dwarves within the top 10 is very shocking and frustrating to me, as Dwarves are belong to the holy triad of all fantasy worlds: Humans, Elves and Dwarves.
Almost as surprising to me is the odd appearance of Trolls/Ogres in the top 12. Not only does this seem like a notoriously ill defined theme, it's almost impossible to imagine how one would separate this from the Orcs in terms of overall feel. Aren't Orcs essentially classic Trolls warped into the Tolkian universe?
That Lizardmen ranks over Nagas - which didn't even make it to top 12 - is another dissapointment for me, as the term "Lizardman" is a very good example of an ill-designed concept - just like I suspect people wouldn't want to have a Stronghold populated by a society of "Beastmen" - and here I don't talk about 'Bestmen' as a collective term (which is fine), but about a race called "Beastmen" - like a Beastman Warrior, Beastman Shaman or Beastman Archer. Nah. In the same way, 'Lizardman' should simply be a collective term for humanoid speciae with water affinities - and Naga would be an example of one such specie - but maybe that was what people had in mind when voting.
That nature/Elements theme ranks as high is somewhat surprising to me as well, giving the lukewarm fealings many people have about the Heroes 3 Conflux. And I guess that when Faceless ranks as high as it does, it's not because people want a Faceless faction, but that they want to have Faceless appear in a faction, just like Angels appear in the Haven line-up - that's my interpretation, at least.

We don't have any guarantee that people who voted, knew anything about mythology of HoMM5 universum, history of factions or do they really played the HoMM5. I think it's too risky to allow everybody to vote.

You probably would have had a great time debating that in the Races vs Themes thread. I know neither side seemed to "win" that argument.

Hmmm...nice statestic it's almost like you made it out of my own ratings But there is a few things thou:
1) Why does everyone hate the faceless?(haven't read the thread, but I got a pretty good idea what they are) It's not like the dark elf worship them personally, the dark elfs just took to the same religion as the faceless(as the haven humans did with the angels and Elrath). Also the faceless is just as much god like as the devils and angels. Personally I would like to see them(as I showed in my own ratings), but not as a faction, but as something like the angels and the devils; Really strong creature.
2) Werewolfs are NOT undeads. An Werewolf is just a human cursed so he would transform into an wolf everytime there is an full moon. They are not dead men or anything and in most stories where there are werewolfs and undeads, the werewolfs always fight the undead(exspecially vampires).
@Alcibiades, there is no holy triad of fantasy world and if it is it's like this: Dwarfs, Elves and Orcs(or something looking alike them).
The humans are doomed to be there anyway, no one drops ourselves out.
Also the orcs, are (if you have read Silmarilion/Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit) elfs tortured and miscared and kept in the dark for so long and so much that they look like the do. Also they are somewhat a mini troll, but trolls also exist in Tolkiens stories.
Everyones loves the elementals! Also the thing with the naga and lizardmen is also what I had in mind. A faction with Lizard-humanoids one with nagas as a unit.

Don't get me wrong, Arcax, I support your position. The Fortress is my favorite faction. I think having 6 dwarven units makes a Hell of a lot more sense than a minotaurs, raptos, and dragons paling around.

faceless doesn't sound interesting at all. I don't know where did you get that idea. Like I said the best idea is to keep the 8 factions that are already and maybe add another 2 like the classical fortress from heroes 3, with a few changes of course, or the conflux that gatters all the elements(stats will need to be changed).

So maybe we need another expansion, not HoMM6?
IMHO HoMM5 is just perfect, maybe too much similar to HoMM3.
But to be honest what improvements HoMM6 can give us?
Better graphics? Maybe. More factions/races? Maybe. Drastical changes to gameplay? What else can be added? Heroes walking on the battlefield?
Allow units to wander on a map? Another HoMM4? 3DO brought revolution to HoMM series by creating HoMM4, and how it ended for them? It's a rethorical question.

Quote: Pardon my ignorance, but what 'are' the faceless?
The funny thing about the Faceless are that we don't really know what they are. However, they are not a concept taken out of blue air.
The reason why they keep showing up in this context is because of the Myth Of Creation (see here) a semi-official document probably dating back from the early development faces of Heroes 5, but apparantly later discarded. As Nival didn't choose to provide us with any official Lore of the World Of Ashan, however, this is all we have to go by.
The interesting thing is that the Myth Of Creation mentions the six ancient races, which are the Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Nagas, Angels and Faceless, which worship, respectively, the Dragons of Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Light and Darkness. The interesting thing about the Faceless is that they have dissapeared - but notice that the word eliminated is not present - which obviously indicates that they might come back. Other interesting "facts" are that the Dark Elves became Dark Elves after having formed an alliance with the Faceless, and that the Angels in the ancient time went into war against the Faceless, with devastating consequences for all races (which is probably why the Angels later ally with the Humans, when these abandon Sylath and turn to Elrath).
Thus, the Faceless rank among the creatures mentioned in the mythology but which never made it into the game - these include Faceless, Nagas, Wyrms (which are mentioned in the moonweeks to be exterminated), and Berserk Combat Hamsters. Supposedly, the Nagas we supposed to be the 8th faction added with the second add-on, but speculations are that fan-demand made Nival change plans and add the Orcs instead (these are speculations only, however!). Naturally, the fact that the Faceless disappeared but weren't eliminated opens a door for a return at some point.

Well, that Orcs are tortured, kind of mutated, elfs, is just the Tolkien idea/explanation of the Orcish origin and although I like the Tolkien universe i do not think it should be taken as kind of an encyclopedia for fantasy!
And, btw, orcs are no mini-trolls at tolkien's, trolls are ripped out of ents as orcs of elves, but elves are no mini-ents, are they?

Whatever, my point was not literally that Orcs and Trolls are the same, but that Orcs take the roles that Trolls take in most mythological legends: That of the beastly humanoid.

And I seriously doubt they are true, since the Dwarven and Orcish factions have had places specifically reserved in the game's .exe file since the vanilla version.
